Mass Shooting at Orlando Club

I'm out. I usually love a good gun argument, but my heart is broken today and I can't listen to all the gun enthusiasts defending this nonsense. Have a good time with this one. At the end of the day, nothing will have changed. So sad in so many ways.

always an excuse, removable magiznes have no use for a legitmate gun owner for hunting or home protection

That wasn't his point. Make them illegal, that won't stop him. Murder is illegal, he did that 50 times this morning.

People who hate and criminals don't care about laws. These items are out there millions of 30+ magazines are in the world. Making them illegal doesn't make them disappear.

How about everyone stop blaming the gun industry/laws and put the blame where it really belongs? ON THE PERSON WHO MURDERED THOSE PEOPLE

That person chose to load a gun and kill people. The blame is 100% on him. Not on the gun industry for manufacturing guns and bullets, not for the laws that allow a person to buy and own a gun in the US, not on the club for not having metal detectors or strip searches before allowing people in....100% on him.

How about the nation stop blaming these horrific acts on laws and regulations and start putting the blame where it really freaking belongs? ON THE PERSON WHO MURDERED THOSE PEOPLE

Unless you need to reload quickly. Plus they're much nicer when shooting for sport. You can reload at home and take your magazines to the range.

I wouldn't want to defend my home and family with a bolt action rifle when an intruder(s) have semiauto rifles and shotguns.

Awful day in an otherwise generally quiet town.

The timing and location gives me the strong first impression that this is a pure hate crime...and it's already being spun for politics with nothing to back it up.

Sad day on many levels.

All magazines are removable. You're right, they aren't used for hunting or home protection. Most gun owners would not be using a .223 for a home invasion unless your neighbors are really far apart since most likely it would end up through the invader, through the house, and into your neighbors. Mostly used for target practice or just having fun. And I've seen people who can shoot, reload and shoot again more pistol rounds quicker than a person using a semi auto rifle doing the same thing.

Because without the guns the THE PERSON WHO MURDERED THOSE PEOPLE would not have been able to MURDER quite as many of THOSE PEOPLE as he did.

So to you it's not the hate causing murder it's the total people murdered. 50 terrible, but 6 with a knife? Not bad and definatly acceptable?

This thread is 6 pages long and nobody has yet to say"who cares if people are gay?"

I mean honestly, who cares? Gay is black is Asian is diabetic.

Yes. This guy...

I'd like to know more about him. What were the motivating factors? Were there warning signs? How did he plan and choose target? How did he get his weapons? Does he have like-minded associates? etc

I didn't think that one gun would be capable of that much devastation.
Military type weapons, like an AR15 or AK47, automatic or semi-automatic, do incredibly devastating damage. They do since they are designed as military war weapons where the users of them, typically soldiers fighting other soldiers. A wound which would be in no way lethal from a 'regular' rifle or a 'regular' handgun can be easily lethal and deadly when fired into a victim from a shooter using these military type weapons. Getting hit with a round from these types of weapons is like having an explosion going off in your body. As a semi-automatic, they are capable of firing as quickly as the shooter can pull the trigger, typically 2 rounds per second. If automatic, they can fire a blistering hail of death. These type of weapons have no place in the hands of anyone other than the military and police.

California is passing a law to outlaw removable magazines. Seems like a really good idea. They seem to have no use other than mass shootings
That would be great.

And yes, they are for mass killing, no other reasons.

This is an honest question. Do you believe that people like this murderer would be unable to obtain guns if they were illegal? Personally, I feel that someone so evil as to kill would either get guns illegally or find other ways to carry out his plans. But I'm truly curious as to how others see this playing out if guns were banned.

You be the first to tell that to the families of the 44 people (and counting) who would NOT have been killed in a knife fight. I dare you.

I wouldn't disrepaect them at all by talking about the gun. I would want to talk about the person who saw people living a different life from him and thought "I need to kill them"

This isn't about guns it's about tolerance to people who are different.

when an out of state college student living in campus housing, who is a known mental patient can go out and buy a small arsenal within a matter of weeks, I say we have a problem. We started the focus on automotice safety in the 60s, starting with seat belts, and continuing with air bags, safer cars, more training and drunk driving enforcement. And the rate of vehicle deaths dropped 80%. Why? becasue we tried to make things better

Yep, watch cowboy shooters sometime.

Or this guy:

You don't expect to get up on a beautiful Sunday morning in Orlando to hear that your city is now the location of the worst mass shooting in US history. My heart is breaking for the families and the friends of those touched by this senseless violence.

If any good can come out of this, it is seeing the number of people in Orlando turning out to give blood and support. So much hate in the world. Let us be the spreaders of love and tolerance.
