All terrorism is a hate crime. In this case, they probably have extra hate for gays, but they hate all Americans intensely.

We have plenty of homegrown terrorists in the US that are sympathetic to ISIS and other radical groups, they don't have to be foreign born to hate Americans. That's how ISIS grows their ranks, by appealing to nutjobs already living in other countries.

They initially reported the San Bernadino shooting was "domestic terrorism" also - and held on to the notion that it was just "workplace violence". Same thing with the Fort Hood shooting that remained officially classified as workplace violence for years.

I had not heard about the shooter. It's amazing with the size of the world and the ability to find whatever you like and distance yourself from what you don't like or agree with that people can't just ignore those they don't agree with (see gay marriage abortion guns etc)

We live in a world where everyone, from the teenager on social media to politicians and pundits on 24/7 news networks has an instant, global audience to which they can spew and spin hateful rhetoric. We also live in a world where a lot of people who are exposed to this hate do not have the mental capacity or critical thinking skills to process it and deal with it in a healthy way. And when people cannot deal with something mentally, they tend to get frustrated and afraid, and then they act out violently.

I don't know the answers, but I have to believe 24/7 news networks that are vying for ratings and social media sites where gullible, non-thinking people believe anything they see or read, are definitely not helping matters.

I honestly don't care about the why or who to balme just yet. 20 people lost their life, 42 are injured, and hundreds more will never be the same after hearing their friend and acquaintances get gunned down. Can't we grieve for them just a tiny bit before we start all the hate right back up?

Unfortunately the hate doesn't stop to give us time to grieve. It's a constantly out there waiting to rear its ugly head at any time. And it seems to keep catching us off guard.

Edited: Apologies, I was a bit frantic when I wrote my original post. I realized it read as if I did with 100% knowledge have friends at the club. I was trying to confirm that no one I knew was there. Thank goodness none of my friends or many acquaintances were there, however, it doesn't matter if I know them or not. Many lives were lost. Too many lives were lost. I'm fearful there will be more.

This is very surreal. Again, I just ask that you pray for our community and our City Beautiful. Thank you <3

From the reports all over the news, it does appear as if a lot of the facts are still fluid, as one would expect just 4 hours after the crimes were committed.

That having been said, law enforcement have stated that the shooter may have been wearing a suicide vest. They also stated that an explosives sniffing dog detected explosives in the shooter's car.

What happened is just absolutely horrible.

Praying for your friends. It's gut wrenching to watch the news, and see family members are friends trying to find out information about their loved ones. My heart breaks for them. Prayers for Orlando.

Unfortunately, appears to be well-planned & executed, a worst-case scenario & act of terrorism or hate crime.

People will be 2nd-guessing the intelligence gathering that was in place after the three-hour standoff, when they decided to storm the club, but many potential victims were able to escape, thank God.

Haven't seen the news yet this morning because my wife is into her "Fixer Upper" on HGTV...... were the bulk of the victims killed as a result of storming the club? I had assumed that the police responded after the bulk of the shooting had already occurred.
