MASKS

I stated this in the last thread about masks ( before we got closed, lol, which might happen again here). With the amount of people vaccinated AND the amount of people that now have natural immunity ( and yes, it’s the same protection, please let’s not get into the ridiculous argument that “it’s not the same” antibodies are antibodies) “enough” people are protected to call it herd immunity. It is ok to not have FULL herd immunity ( we do not have herd immunity to the influenza virus every year) but herd immunity just means more than not, or enough in a “herd” to protect the others that cannot/won’t/choose not to vaccinate for whatever reason. Disney Workd us a very small microcosm of the “world” ( a “herd” gathers there every day and you travel with it) they are presently “guessing” that the numbers present with the antibodies ( natural or manufactured) will be enough to “protect” the “weak.....just like a “herd”) Most will be protected and “safe” from this point in ( until next year) Herd immunity is actually what keeps the young animals safe in a herd. Viruses first attack the elderly and immune compromised, then move in to the next “vulnerable” group and so in, until it reaches kids. The way we protect kids is by, as adults, getting the vaccine/or having been infected. As a society ( and even medical experts) there HAS to come a time where we say, ok the most people that are going to vaccinate ( willingly) have done so. ( still leaving them the opportunity to vaccinate ...and get free fries in New York as an incentive) Herd immunity is not everybody, it might not even be 60%, but it does include those with antibodies ( no matter how they got them)
The CDC is “banking” on the idea that the group of 30,000 people ( I’m just guessing here) that you are going to spend you leave day at Disney with will have a “herd immunity” that will protect the unvaccinated. They are also banking on this in your everyday life, at work, school, restaurants, etc. This has to happen at some point. We cannot “deny” people freedoms forever. The valid point still remains, you are free to do what you would like to choose to do with your situation. Some places will be mask free, some will not. ( No shoes, no shirt, no service has been on store doors for years and we all respect that)
Try to remember, this is a good thing. We don’t want to be wearing masks forever. We are coming around to the end if this. I know it is “scary” to think of a world without masks when it’s been our safety blanket for the past year. It is still up to YOU as to whether you want to go to Disney Workd ( or anywhere else) and follow their rules. It’s hard to let go of things we “knew, and loved” but that’s the way the big world works.

Thats not how HIPAA works. You can volunteer whatever you want.
Requiring you to give proof of your vaccine status for entrance is not volunteering information, any more than requiring you to give other medical information would be volunteering information. Imagine the uproar (rightfully so) if people were required to give proof of their STD status.

Also, I think that it is pretty clear that the new FL law does not allow businesses to ask about vaccine status (regardless of what the federal rules allow). I’d also note that the new FL law prohibits what people are commonly referring to as “vaccine passports”. That is not limited to any particular format, and vaccine wristbands clearly would be prohibited.

Thankfully, it is a moot point as my understanding is that Disney will not be distinguishing people based on their medical history. Thank God for those still willing to protect our civil liberties.

People really don’t seem to understand how HIPAA works. HIPAA prevents other people (say, your doctor) from sharing your medical information without your consent.

It does not prevent anyone from requiring you to provide your own medical information. For instance, every single school I know of requires medical records in order for a student to be admitted.

I’m not saying I think Disney (or anywhere else) will require proof of vaccination for admission. But doing so would not be a violation of HIPAA.

They’ve announced the new policy—masks outdoors at Disney are now optional.
I wasn't planning on going soon. Now I am not going for that reason SPECIFICALLY and I'm going to write a letter. I know 1 letter won't do anything but make me feel batter.

Of course, I didn’t say it would be a HIPPA violation. I merely pointed out what the FL allows.

That would be a odd law to read. Business and schools and airlines all ask these questions. The cruise line also. I mean, I expect most people lie when asked but I know it's asked often.
