Hi all im due to fly into MCO in sept with my disabled son, i fear he wont be allowed off the plane due to him being unable to wear a mask? Am i right in thinking this?

He won't be allowed on the plane.... however the mandate might be (hopefully will be) gone by September.
He will be this end, lol.....Just not allowed off at MCO. Hence stuck? I forgot to add im from the UK

ah. I can't imagine he wouldn't be allowed off the airplane. I mean I always take the mask off as soon as the plane door opens at airports. I don't know about getting back on in Orlando when you leave though. But the masks are supposed to end at the end of this month. Hopefully they won't be renewed... again.

No, they're not going to forbid your son from getting off the airplane.

LOL stranded in orlando. I can think of worse places, That said i think i will hold back paying for this holiday until everything is dropped. Not sure the British embassy would like dealing with it

For an international flight arriving INTO the US, my understanding is that masks are supposed to be enforced at the point of boarding. So he presumably would not be allowed onto the plane in the U.K. if he refuses to wear a mask.

That said, there is likely to be rule changes between now and September. If you aren't bumping up against final payment and penalty phase for any aspect of the trip, I would take a wait-and-see approach.

There are no mask mandates and or any covid rules left in the UK if the plane is in the uk i dont see how that would apply.

I think contacting MCO and airline is best bet

MCO bulked at the question said its not them its "our local Governments and the Airlines. We continue to comply with CDC guidelines" I was then linked to this page

I can get him a exemption if i prove he would be unable to remove his mask * he wont wear* if his breathing became compromised

How can operators facilitate safer transportation where a passenger is a person with a disability who is exempt from the requirement to wear a mask?

Operators of conveyances or transportation hubs should consider providing options for additional protective measures that improve the ability of the people who are subject to the exemption to maintain social distance (separation from others by at least 6 feet/2 meters [about 2 arm lengths]). Examples include—

  • If travel is pre-scheduled, schedule travel for people who are exempt at less crowded times or on less crowded conveyances.
  • Seat or otherwise situate the person in a less crowded section of the conveyance or transportation hub.
  • Inform people with disabilities who cannot wear a mask safely that these additional measures might be taken to facilitate safer transportation.

from the airlines that tell everyone that. From the people that haven't been able to fly since early 2020 because they were told there are no exceptions.
That was correct in early 2020. It's not correct now and it hasn't been correct since February 1, 2021.

International flights are dictated by whichever country has the stricter rules.

What determines if you have to wear a mask on a particular route?

If the departure and destination countries have different restrictions, the country with the stricter rule sets the policy in the sky. Individuals flying between England and Northern Ireland on TUI Airways, for example, would not have to wear a mask, but individuals flying between England and the United States on that same airline would have to wear one.

How odd. So there is a chance they will refuse to let him fly full stop. I will ring British airways see whats up

OK this is even more strange, BA will issue him a exemption no problem for the flight they have no idea what will happen the other end.??!?!?!??
