Mask ear protectors for long flights?

They are comfortable but aren't really protective. If you are ill yourself, they are certainly good to wear to try to keep things in, but I wouldn't be using one of those for protection.
This is true, for Covid, but they do still protect you from all the other nasty bugs around by simply stopping your from touching your face so often…

N95 for Covid is the way to go.
I wlll be wearing one for our flight. I am in the medical profession and I can tell you in our area, people are getting sick in big numbers again. Not like last year, and the k god not to the severity of affecting hospital admissions, but definetly “sick” that you would/should have to cancel your vacation plans….

Yes, you are absolutely correct!

The travel vloggers seem to put mask use at about 50% on flights.
Not my experience but only eight flights since the mandate was removed. Also rarely see them worn in the airports. Guess maybe it could be regional?

We’ve been flying regularly between Australia and Dallas over the last 3mths. Even today’s flight had a large percentage of passengers still wearing masks. My husband, 15yo and myself all wore ours the whole time. The 12yo pretty much took his off once on the plane.
I thought Australian airlines still required masks. I know some international flights do. We had to wear them until we reached 10,000 feet on our return flight from the Bahamas last month.

I might possibly get on a plane soon and was wondering if anyone has a favorite style of ear protector for masks? I have one kind with little spokes that grab the sides but it catches in my hair, I might still use it but thought other people might have recommendations. I was even thinking plastic covered paper clips could do the trick and take the pressure off my ears.
If you are wearing noise cancelling-style headphones (ie the ear piece covers over your whole ear with a headband part) we like to take the mask elastic and put it around the ear speaker so it takes all the pressure off your ears.

Yep. I’ve traveled twice since then, both domestic trips, but through major hubs. I would guess less than 10 percent in the aircraft and in the airports.

Could be. I was in Los Angeles last week and mask wearing there was more common than up here in Sacramento.

I've only been on 2 flights recently. From east to west coast, I was surprised by the number of people masking on the flight (not so much in the airport). I'd put it at 30-40% and predominantly older people (over 40). On the flight back, much less so and I'd agree with about 10%. Mostly those that were masking were taking it seriously with N95s.

If over 40 is older I qualify as ancient. 🤪

We wore masks on the plane and throughout our recent trip. We still came home with covid. But, if me wearing an n95 mask on the flight home kept someone from catching it from me then it did its job.

To the op, MaskC makes very comfortable n95s that may not require ear protectors for you. https://www.shopmaskc.com/

We test before each flight so I amI pretty comfortable We are not spreading the virus.

Qantas cancelled their mask requirement for the US this week. We are all double vaxxed (and boosted in DH and my case) but so far we haven’t had COVID at all and would like to try to keep that way. Especially with quick turnaround flights - we return home in a week and then my husband and son will be back 2 weeks later.

We have flown a handful of times with true N95s and had no issues. The flight was about 2.5 hours but had it on all throughout airport, etc, so many hours. I would go that route, personally. Much less annoyance on the area around my ear, but definitely dependent on your size and head shape. haha

Also puts you in a higher risk level if you get covid.
Maybe. There seems to be no rhyme or reason in many cases. We have come a long way treating COVID if it’s even necessary.

What about people almost twice that age?
Same situation. I belong to a service club and one member is 78 so has not been attending.......NOT because he is 78, but because him catching covid would be a problem since his 103 year old mother lives with him.
