My dh is a huge mashed potato snob. Are the mashed potatoes at WDW real? He will not eat instant mashed potatoes.

Specifically speaking, are the ones at HDDR real? Any places that do not have real mashed potatoes (so we can avoid them). Thanks!

I had mashed potatos at WCC & CP and they were real I'm sure the ones at LT/MK are real too.

The potatoes at WCC are definitely real...real yummy too! LC in Epcot has good potatoes too! The buffets are prob instant, don't know that for sure, but they have never stood out to me as being great.

I think HDDR & Trails End have the same potatoes. They were real & they were very good. The best were at Le Cellier.

guess I'll be the Debbie Downer here...I've read over and over that all the mashed potatoes at Disney are reconstituted from dehydrated flakes. Even the ones that appear to have bits of potato skins are from that type of dehydrated taters.

Not saying they're not tasty...they are plenty good, full of buttery flavor etc. But not made fresh. Was told that's why there's virtually no baked-potatoes as an option at the various restaurants, because they don't generally stock potatoes at most of the restaurants.

I would be quite surprised if most of the mashed potatoes @ disney were not made from scratch. You can find alot of the recipes from the restaurants on websites like allears.net and passporter. They have the mashed potatoes from WCC, Garden grill, etc. and I've made the recipes for cream cheese mashed from Le Cellier and the parmesan mashed from Chef Mickey's. I don't they could list the recipe and it not be accurate.

It's true you don't find baked potatoes much but there's always another kind of potato dish-au gratin, scalloped, roasted etc. that they need fresh potatoes for.

I few disney mashed potatoes I've tried cooking over the years::goodvibes

Not to go off topic...but....thanks a lot for posting this thread...now every time I hit the restaurant boards, I see 'mashed potatoes' and immediately want some....sigh.

I LOVED the mashed potatoes at Coral Reef...not to hijack but does anyone happen to have the recipe for those? Or know if they are similar at any other restaurants???:lovestruc

And now I want some too!

I LOVE Disney mashed Potatoes except at Chef Mickeys where they have cheese in them but I have heard the are instant also....they do however taste fresh.....

We love the Parmesan Mashed Potatoes from Chef Mickey's. So much so that we requested the recipe during a visit. They gladly printed the recipe off for us. The recipe does call for a little bit of instant potatoes, but it is just enough to get the right consitency. I had to reduce the recipe and the ratio is about 3 pounds of real potatoes to about 3/4 cup of instant.

The mashed potatoes that came with the pot roast at Liberty Tree Tavern were delicious!! I really want some now!!:rotfl2:

This delicious dish--a masterful mix of salmon, garlic mashed potatoes, and saffron sauce, is a favorite with Coral Reef Restaurant diners.

INGREDIENTS

For the garlic mashed potatoes:
3/4 pound potatoes (2 large)
3 tablespoons butter
1 1/2 tablespoons milk
1 garlic bulb, roasted
1 tablespoon minced fresh basil
Salt and pepper to taste

For Garlic Mashed Potatoes:
1. Peel and quarter potatoes and place in a large pot of water to cover. Bring to a boil.

2. Simmer until fork*tender, 20-*25 minutes.

3. Drain potatoes and return to pot. Mash with butter and milk.

4. Remove the soft part of the garlic from the roasted bulb and add with basil to potatoes. Salt and pepper to taste.

Sorry to make everyone hungry! LOL

So, for those that say they are instant, where did you get the info from? Just trying to sort our rumors from truth. Dh always asks when we go out, and he can tell if they are lying to him, lol. I've never seen anyone so picky about potatoes. I guess I'm picky about coffee, though, so we all have something...

Has anyone asked if they are real or instant?

Liberty Tree's mashed were excellent as were those at Yachtsman Steakhouse.

I tell you who serves bland nasty mashed potatoes-50s Prime Time Cafe-they just tasted like potatoes and water. No butter or cream.

Good to know! Maybe this should turn in to a thread about the worst mashed potatoes in DW. ;)

I agree. They were the only ones I didn't care for.
