Mary Kate Olson seeks immunity regarding Heath Ledger death

I didn't know that there was a lawsuit, but I've heard repeatedly that he flew in conditions he shouldn't have flown in. That he was irresponsible, and his bad decisions caused their deaths.

Yes, I just looked it up again to make sure. The Bessette family actually won the case & got money. Maybe MK just doesn't want that happening to her, too.

Just a word on the phrase "drug overdose". I think most people consider that phrase to mean taking too much of one drug. Heath did not take too much of any one drug, rather it was the combination that killed him.

I don't think all of the drug were prescribed. I think I read that one or 2 of the benzodiazpines-the ones that end in lam & pam. not sure about the opiates- the Hydro & the oxy those are pain meds. thought I read they were not prescribed. Now the doxylamine is Unisom. I can not imagine taking all of that at once-I don't think he really took a handfull or a one time. What is even scarier is kids do that they have "pharm' parties where you take unknown pills & mix them.

First of all, Heath did not die of a DRUG overdose.

Reminds me of my BIL who says he's not an alcoholic because he only drinks beer.
If you Die from taking to many drugs whether they were legal, illegal or given to you by little green men, That's an overdose.
Whether it's from only one drug or a combination of drugs unfortunately the result is the same Death.
I don't mean to sound flippant but we give our celebrities and sport superstars way to much leadway with bad behaviour.

Abuse of drugs and alcohol has been ruining lives and careers in Hollywood since the silent era. Fatty Arbuckle and Virginia Rapp come to mind...

My understanding was that Virginia Rappe died from perotinitis(sp) from a botched abortion, which was not Fatty Arbuckle's, he was an innocent man.

This is so sad. It doesn't appear that he was having a solo drug party...looks like he was trying to get some relief from being ill, exhausted, anxiety-ridden, and unable to sleep. The poor guy must have been desperate. He really should have checked himself into a hospital, since he obviously wasn't able to take care of himself at that particular time.

I'm thinking she is probably a huge druggie herself, and doesn't want to be in trouble for divulging that information. I don't know, I may be off base but that is the only reason I can think of.

You could be correct one was one of the sister s was in a drug rehab I believe!

I just heard on the news today that 2 of those pills he took were not prescribed! They could have been keeping that hush until they had leads on how they thought he acquired those pills anything is possible and it will be interesting to see how this all plays out! I also agree she should have retained a lawyer because of her net worth but seeking immunity for what she knows I'm sorry I don't agree1 I agree that what she's knows is somehow linking her to somehow being involved! Maybe there is more of the story that no one knows! I think the truth needs to come out for heath's Family's sake even though it was accidental and he did not intentionally cause his death ! I think the family has a right to put there minds at ease and if she don't talk I totally agree with them to sopena her to a court trial !

The more I think of this, the Olsens probably have a whole firm of lawyers on permanent retainer, just because of their various businesses. Probably when one of them saw MK named on the news right after Heath's death, he called her and told her to keep quiet and wait for his advice. Heck, why not "advise" her through this for more money. She's got it.

When the police swept his apartment they looked at all of his prescriptions and he had alot of them. HOWEVER, it wasn't like he was pill popping on a daily basis.

These are very powerful drugs and it takes more than a day to get some out of his system AND if he was tired and sick, which he was and just wanted to sleep he made a mistake.

I was very upset by his death because he didn't abuse drugs, in the way that others are thinking. He was a good dad and this poor little girl will never know that. Just leave it alone and let him rest in peace.

Very well said. I too do not believe he was a pill popper. I think he made a tragic mistake in his desperation to feel better.

I also think that with Mary Kate it is either

A. She, being young and not knowing better, said "here Heath, take these it will help you sleep and make you feel better." He being sick and not caring (and no one EVER thinks it can happen to them) said "okay, thanks...."

or

B. She had nothing to do with it, but knowing "anything she says can and will be held against her in a court of law" is choosing to ask for immunity just in case they don't believe her anyway.

Just my humble opinion.

I sometimes actually feel sorry for the Mary Kate's, Paris Hilton s and Brittany Spears of the world. The world they live in has so clouded them to reality. They have exchanged having fame and money for a normal life. Money does not buy happiness. Imagine never really knowing who your true friends are and the reality of it being you don't have any.

Since she sent her security people over there, she could be possibly charged with obstruction. There was conjecture at the time that the security guards were not just sent there to keep the area safe from 'gawkers', but also to get rid of any illegal drugs. If she told them to do that, she would have interfered with a possible crime scene, even if she didn't supply any drugs (from what I have heard, not all the prescriptions were his; those that were not, were illegal).

However being that she has lots of $$$$$, maybe her lawyers feel that someone involved with the case can & will sue her for just about anything! I think super rich people have to be EXTRA cautious.

Her lawyer might be afraid that someone might file a Wrongful Death suit on Matilda's behalf, for losing her father. Since he had never updated his will to include her, and if the Ledgers don't really reapportion the money to go to her, MK would be one target to go after.

I still get incredibly sad when I think about what happened to Heath. His poor little girl and such a loss for the movie industry.

I don't remember exactly were I read this, but yesterday I saw an article that stated he had a legal Rx for every drug in his system except the oxy. They are trying to find out the source of that particular drug since there were no bottles of it in his apartment. Since there were so many calls to MK, they probably believe she had someone remove evidence. There is also the possibility that these calls took up precious time that MAY have made it possible for rescue workers to save Ledger.
