Ok, I didn't answer the poll. Quite frankly, I don't care if it is legal (with alcohol type limitations) or not. I don't do it and it doesn't bother me if others uses it safely (no smokin' & drivin'). However, I have issues with this:

Marijuana - on the other hand - you cant "OD". You'd be awfully sleepy, and awfully hungry - but it wont kill you (by it alone)

It is my understanding in doing reasearch that one joint does the damage of 40 cigarettes. So, it isn't exactly not not bad for you.

The last time I drank alcohol I didn't get paranoid. Can't say the same for pot. It does different things to different people. I sure would not want my kids toking up. I have seen way too many people with fried brains from smoking bowls all the time.

I voted "no opinion" -- I wouldn't parktake, but only because it makes me puke -- not that I'd know for sure, of course. Even the smell of it makes me sick to my stomach.

And it's back!

I'm a teen, and I wouldn't touch marijuana.

I *thought* this would have been the thread that you would have been referring to in your other thread, but I checked and this one was still here. I was totally confused. :teeth:

That's great that you wouldn't touch pot, but do you think it should be legalized?

I'm so glad you brought this up, because the anti-pot siggie bugs me. Not because of the sentiment, but because the facts are just plain wrong. And to me, it's unfair and dishonest to use inflated or wrong statistics to support your personal position.

A person after my own heart! In fact, those dumb pot signatures bother me so much that I put up my own rebuttal in my sig!!! :teeth: I get a post or PM every once in a while from someone who appreciates it, so we're not alone!

As for legalization, I don't know. I'm not convinced pot is just as safe as nicotine or alcohol, but frankly I wish those weren't legal either. I really don't know which would be better. :confused3

There is a misunderstanding that pot is a "safe" drug. It's not, and it shouldn't be legal.

I don't smoke it (not to say I haven't tried it) but I have no problem with it being legalized. I am thankful that for the most part that people who might need it, for the effects of chemo and such, have access to it presently.

Honestly I don't think it should be legalized...what kind of example would it be for kids growing up? If it were legalized this year, then probably in the next hundred years it would be as common as cigarettes. I just don't think we should have those things thought of as somewhat safe. It's almost like buying a loaded gun that will go off in the next twenty years...

Here in Canada, there has been a move by our last government to decriminalize it. That means it would still be illegal to have, but small personal amounts would only result in a fine, not criminal charges. To me this was a great compromise.

I always thought it should be. Then I got assigned the position of "it should NOT be made legal" in a debate class. Ugh, I thought. But after I got done researching, I had changed my mind and actually agreed with the side I was debating.
FYI, did you know a joint is much, much more carcinogenic than a cigarette?

IMO it is not as harmful as alcohol is. As for being as harmful as cigarettes I honestly don't know. I'm not a smoker now, but I did once in a great while before I got married and my daughter was born.

There are benefits for those who are very ill ( cancer, MS, AIDS ) and if there is something out there that helps them in any way whatsoever it should be available to them.

Well, as a teen who grew up in the 60's, and can actually remember most of it, :hippie: I have to say that I would go along with easier access for medicinal reasons. And no, just it's being a Sat night and you're sitting around with a bunch of buddies and feeling down isn't a reason for 'self-medicating'!!!
I was our yearbook editor, and while I didn't partake (and haven't to this day) my co-editor was selling it out of the filing cabinets in the office. I'm not a prude by any stretch of the imagination, but I hate the thought of going down the street of legalizing it only to find we were wrong. I've heard all the arguments for...I have a 33 y/o ds, and a 29 y/o dd. We have argued until we are all blue in the face. I think tobacco should be against the law, and I would love to see alcohol less acceptable. I try to model behaviour for my 12 y/o dd that shows I can enjoy myself a lot without any kind of mood enhancers. Obviously I didn't do such a great job with the older two. There is just too much acceptance of these legal drugs...'life is beautiful and you'll be more successful and happy if you drink XYZ beer or look more sophisticated if your smoking ABC cigarettes' mentality is leading our kids down a slippery path.

Ah yes...back in those old days...Towncrier must have had some of the same experiences I had. I distinctly remember stepping over passed out bodies every week-end night...way too much drug use. It was truly an incredible time to be in college!!! And yep, MIT sure did a lot to make things more interesting. I have a few MIT Sat night memories.... :crazy2: :cloud9:

I haven’t used either since college, over 20 years ago. I agree that if marijuana were legal, it would be much less harmful than alcohol.

There are probably a lot of people that would call me a 40-something Boy Scout, and I would have a hard time casting a vote in favor of legalization, but I don’t believe it’s logical to “force good behavior” on people.

Well, we could start the Coalition to End Inaccurate Statistics :lmao:

*stays away from the topic*

;)

Seriously. The last time I responded to a thread on this topic I went on an absolute rampage.

But using that reasoning alcohol shouldn't be legal.

The statistics may be inaccurate but they're happy they're drug free! :goodvibes
