Marvel coming to WDW???!!!!

Sorry, but there's been no such announcement. The only thing we have from Iger is 'a presence in the parks'. No mention of anything official coming Orlando's way.
This is from Variety: "He (Iger) also has said whatever new attractions are announced, they will be based on future films in the series, as well as its spinoffs."

You really don't think new Star Wars attractions are coming to WDW?

He's said the same thing for the last two years that's nothing new. It's coming! It's coming! Guess what the new movies will play a role it's coming! Well we are still waiting and will likely be waiting until 2021 until anything opens.

Variety: In a separate interview with Bloomberg Television, Iger said, “Fairly soon, I’m sure we’ll be ready to go public with some specifics. But it’s safe to say that you’ll see a lot more ‘Star Wars’ at Disney and at Disney parks in the near future.”

So everywhere except WDW?

I'm jacked to see more Star Wars in the parks and am now. Marvel fan thanks to the mouse. Hoping to see Cap and the gang where they belong one day.

Iger has said the same vague things in every interview. Near future for disney could be next year. Star Wars will come but we are years away.

For the record I only see him making any such announcements on Star Wars in the parks dated February of this year. Not sure where the last 2 years comment comes from.

Something's happening at DHS and I have a feeling we're going to find out what it is in August.

That quote basically says that if (key word 'if') attractions are announced they will focus on the future films. That doesn't translate into an absolute.

I think something is coming eventually, but more along the lines of an expanded presence of the Jedi Academy, a themed restaurant and maybe an extra show or two.

There's another thread in this sub-forum around the Hollywood Studios refurbish. Take a look over there for some additional perspective around some of the limitations. It's widely assumed that if Star Wars comes in it will be in DHS. The problem there is that nothing of substance will fit unless a huge rearranging of the layout takes place.

Edit to add: Forgot to mention the gift shop of epic proportions will be an almost certain given.

I think you're right, but starting on September 4 the avalanche of Star Wars merchandise will hit the shelves. If something happens in August it's going to be a showcase showing just how much merch can be squeezed into Orlando.

As slow as Disney moves I'm glad that Marvel is in Universal right now. Universal is doing some amazing things and doing them quickly. If nothing else, Spiderman is great and looks so nice after its recent refurbishment. I'd hate to just hear vague promises for years to come.

Only time will tell what the talks are really about but most sources I've seen claim that Universal will likely expand Marvel Island.

We will NEVER see new Marvel in the U Parks. Bank on it!

Ever since they purchased Star Wars he has said there will be a presence in the parks. During d23 last year they had the Star Wars orange harvest tease with crates and r2d2.

I really think you are greatly wrong. Insiders with great track records say it's coming. Also Hulk is set for a big refurb at the end of this year. Dr. Doom is set for a new marvel theme.

I think we see an announcement for disneyland Star Wars at d23 in August with maybe a tease for WDW but nothing solid.

Yep. These are insiders who are generally right about what they are willing to share. We'll likely just have to continue wondering if Disney will EVER build anything new for that space franchise instead.

I think we see a Star Wars attraction but not until 2020-21. Disney will play it off as something new for the 50th.

When you google Marvel plans for Universal, I see countless articles stating Hulk will be re-themed and Doom is simply going away. I truly believe Marvel's days at IOA are numbered. Finally. We will find out within the next 6 months I'd say.

As much as I'd like marvel at the world its a poor business move I don't see them making. Right now they're pulling in cash from a competitor. No way they'd give up cash flow that literally costs nothing unless universal terminates it.

Can only happen if the parent company gives the nod. Disney won't.

From the contract:

"Whenever Marvel has “reasonable” rights for rejection of approval hereunder, the basic criteria to be used by Marvel may include inconsistency with (i) basic story line, (ii) the powers, (iii) basic personality traits, (iv) physical appearance (including clothing or costume), and/or (v) living habitat or environment relating to such character as portrayed in Marvel’s exploitation of such character in comic books or other products for the particular time period being depicted by MCA."

If Uni wants to build new Marvel attractions, Disney/Marvel can only refuse if they feel if the portrayal of the characters is inappropriate, they do not have a blank right to say no just because they don't want it.

This dead horse is being beaten all over forums these days...it's pretty sad. Marvel is not leaving Universal. Disney is not going to suddenly spend tons of money to buy the rights, then tons more money to make attractions when they have no interest in building attractions for the strong IP's they already have.

The only thing happening right now for Marvel and Disney is at Hong Kong and even that is far from being finished (Iron Man ride based on 1980's technology...aka Star Tours)
