Marthon Monday free admission and medal vote

I like #1 because I love the classic, basic Mickey ears on a medal. #3 is too much of a modern looking Mickey for me, and #2 doesn't look like Mickey ears at all, so for me personally it's out. But I like the old medal (last years) far, far better than any of these!

I think last year's looks just like #3, only without the color:

My vote went for #2 but I'd be happy with #3. I really don't want #1 -- sorry to those of you who voted for it. Where did you guys see the free admission to the park on Monday? I see something about 'Marathon Monday & more info to come later' but I didn't read anything about free admission.

I voted for #1, but I wouldn't mind #2 either. #3 is the only one I don't like, but if it's chosen, I doubt I'll turn it down at the finish line. :)

I wouldn't be surprised to see all 3 at some point, perhaps over the next 3 years in reverse order of the way voting goes (highest to lowest). I have always found it odd that Disney didn't change the medals every year. Most of the races change them at least a little (and more then the date) and the Rock N Roll runs are changed quite a bit from year to year.

Knowing how much we are motivated by such things it would be the smart thing to do from a marketing point of view.

voted for #2, didn't care for the others as much.

Where did you get the free admission info ?? It would be cool but I doubt they will do anything special for the pass holders.

The admission info is from a Disney blog. The link is in my 1st post.

I voted for #2. I just thought that the different shape was interesting. I'm wondering if they will adapt whatever medal is chosen and change the medal for the Donald as well. I hope so, since I have zero desire to do a full marathon!

You're right -- last year's medal was a modern Mickey too! I think I was thinking of a much older medal (like 2007?). I do like the modern Mickey look in the all-gold color as well. I think I just like gold, and I also like the idea of the medal having "ears" one way or another. I don't know why, maybe because those ears are such a Disney icon. They make the medal so unique!

Anyway... if I manage to ever earn a medal for completing a Disney marathon in the future, I would be thrilled with any of these medals. :)

No sadder than doing Goofy for three cute medals and then signing up for DLR to get another two.

Winner!!!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

PS, I voted for #2 because it is markedly different from past years.

Ahh! I had totally planned on 2013 being my first full marathon, because it would take one seriously big mickey medal to motivate me through 26 miles.. So now that they are enticing me with new medal.. I guess my question is if I would be doing my first marathon then, two years earlier then I ever expected, how realistic is it to think I'd be able to enjoy marathon monday in the park?

It would be my running buddy's first trip to the parks and I'd want to show him everything! But I think that would be at odds with my post-race routine of sleeping, eating, and putting my feet up. What do you guys think?

I think it's very realistic. Walking around the day after a marathon is a great idea to help with your recovery anyway, so why not do it at the park?

Such optimism! I think I'd wind up just soaking my feet in the seven seas lagoon and scaring all the small children with my funky marathon toenails. :)

Also, they posted terms & conditions for Marathon Monday, but still no mention of anything for annual pass holders.

I agree with John - walking around the next day after a marathon is the best thing you can do. Its what I did after both my fulls and even after Goofy this year I was able to walk around the park on Monday. I think it helps your legs not cramp up and stretches them out. Obviously you would be taking it slow on Monday but why not take advantage of the free day. I know I will!!

Oh and I picked #3 for the medal but I will take any of them. Hopefully Goofy will be cool this year but I don't think it can beat this years 5th anniversary especially since it was my first Goofy - when I had started run/walking just 2 1/2 years before and I never would have thought I would even do 13.1 let alone 26.2.
