Marriott's Cypress Harbour - Tropical Feel Similar to Disney's Old Key West?

Hi all,

We are DVC members. My relatives own timeshares in Hawaii and Gatlinburg and have access to Interval International's "getaways" for cheap prices. On our spring trip we are thinking about going to Orlando for two weeks. Our second week would be at Disney's Old Key West on points (which I adore in the spring) because of it's Florida feel and all the great landscaping, especially after coming from a barren Indiana winter.

My question is this, I've been looking at pictures of Marriott's Cypress Harbour and to me it's got that Florida Key West look. Is it like that in person? I'm going from pictures and sometimes pictures don't tell the whole story. Is it similar to Disney's Old Key West in feel? I'm thinking of booking a "getaway" at Marriott's Cypress Harbour if I can get it for the first week of our trip. I've been to Marriott's Grande Vista and I think it's pretty, too. But I actually prefer more of an old Florida feel instead of fancy, fancy.

I know some of you on this board own DVC and other timeshares and stay at both. So I thought you would have some first-hand knowledge of the comparison between these two resorts.

Thanks for any replies.

IMHO, they feel very similar. In fact, when we drove through Cypress Harbour several years ago, that's exactly what I said... "This looks an awful lot like OKW! Same kind of lush landscaping, an old Florida style to the roofing and siding, indoor activities for the kids, water & boats, playgrounds & pools."

From what you've written, I think you'd like it. :sunny:

Thanks, Lisa.

We usually go to Orlando about three times a year. My parents and siblings have access to Interval's "Getaways" and sometimes the Cypress Harbour comes up. We have thought about doing one of our trips in May off site from Disney as we seem to be needing 2 bedrooms more and more. That way we could do 2 onsite trips in the bigger units from now on and the points only go so far. And we don't want to buy more DVC points (dues we have are plenty). I really like OKW's Florida feel and I thought the pictures of Marriott's Cypress Harbour had that look to it.

I booked a 4 night package off of Marriott's site for Cypress Harbour in May on a Visa package for $676.00 and they are throwing in 2 one-day passes to Disney. So we are going to try it out before we go to OKW the next week.

Thanks again.

I send my cousin and his family there in late Sept.

they loved it!

I think they liked it better than OKW.

they had a great room - had a view of the pool, lake and golf course.

they play golf. :goodvibes

Hey littlestar, please report back how you liked it. We are trying it for the first time in May and from what I can tell, we will really like it. I too love OKW and it's nice to know it has a similar feel.

We've stayed there twice and love Cypress Harbour. I've tour Grande Vista and it definately has a different feel to it. It's more "fancy" and has the golf aspect. Not sure what you mean about the old key west look. It's just a great resort, nice size, nice location, something for everyone.

Thanks for the replies.

Jeff968, when I say Old Key West, I'm referring to Disney's original vacation club resort - Old Key West. It's decorated in light pastel colors, with lots of palm trees, flowers, and tin type roofs on the buildings. From the pictures I saw of Marriott's Cypress Harbour, I thought the two resorts looked similar in style. I have only been to Disney's Old Key West in person and not Cypress Harbour so I was wondering if my impressions from the pictures were correct.

Momtomootoo, I'll be sure to post a report after we stay at Cypress Harbour.

Thanks Spiceycat and all that replied.
