Marriott Vacation Club

I bought at Marriott Beach Place Towers PLAT SEASON week resale for $8200
i think retail price is $20,000

(this is why Disney vacation club, is above all others IMHO, this huge depreciation has not occured)

I sold my MBPT later, because I got tired of paying $866 in annual dues, when I could
stay at MBPT in FT LAUDERDALE,FL
for one week, in a two bedroom unit for $744
thur a II instant getaway
(something that does not occur, with DVC, imho, another reason Disney Vacation club, is above all others)

If you sold your Marriott how do you still have access to II getaways.

I love my DVC - But I do hate that there are not any cash getaways available.

Another type of timeshare you get your week and access to getaways. Friends who own in Cape Cod, MA trade for Feb vacation in Disney and they were able to get us a Studio at the Marriott for $267 (cash) in addition to their week!

That is a deal!!!

I am curious how you get to do II getaways if you don't have a II trade power?

Thanks.

I purchased a south africa timeshare, for $349
on ebay, that made me eligible for II membership

The annual dues are $202 and i usually rent it for $100
so it costs me
$202-$100=$102
Then I pay $79 to II
so it costs me about $181 per year to purchase a II/Instant Getaway
at MBPT for one week, lus $744 to II
total cost less than $1000
and I do not have $20k capital tied up in MBPT.

to purchase II instant getaways, you must only be a II MEMBER, that owns a timeshare, that is eligible for II membership.
You do not even have to be current on your annual dues, on the timeshare that allows you to be a II Member
I choose to do so, but this has never been asked of me.

I politley disgree with you about DVC thru Instant Getaways.
I am thrilled they are not available, this is why DVC does not devalue dramatically like MARRIOTT VACATION CLUB

I also own a week at Marriott Cypress Harbour, and I bought it because I could get a fall float week for $5000. I am looking for another week at that price at Marriott, too. I bought for trades, but I'm buying another week because everyone I know wants to rent my week from me in Florida. I bought Marriott in the first place for my kid, who wanted to travel. She can't afford the dues right now, though, so I use it to trade, and rent out. It eases the points crush that I have thru DVC, so everyone in the family can travel when they want. I want to give each child a Marriott week and a DVC contract someday. Since I deposit a fall week, every year I end up with another week given to me thru II. It's the only time I have given something up, and gotten it back, too! :cloud9:

the florida area is inundated w/ timeshares, whereas a place ike HHI has timeshares but the size of the island & newly regulated development, makes them hold their value a bit more. The newer Barony Beach & under construction Surf Watch will hold their value much better (including the amenities they provide).

I have 2 weeks at Marriott's Grande Ocean at HHI. We generally trade one of them thru II.

We bought a 3 bdrm at Grande Vista - yes more Orlando. It's a lock-off so that will actually give us two weeks to use with II. Bought it for two reasons, 1 trying to get a 3bdrm with DVC is quite difficult, and 2 we wanted to have the MVC priority status when trying to trade into MVC. Didn't hurt that all my family members own with MVC as well.

I have two weeks at GO and one at the new Surfwatch and would almost never trade it. I simply rent it when I'm not using it. I'd likely only do a request first if I considered trading it. I'd likely do an exchange for points before I'd just generically bank it with II.

We own at Marriott's Canyon Villas in Scottsdale and Harbor Pointe.

We were Marriott owners before we got our DVC points. For our family the combination works well!
