Have any of you stayed there? If so, what did you think about it? I just booked a stay there for DH and our two DD's for August. I know we're going to love the waterpark. I would love to hear what people like and dislike about it. And I assume we can buy park tickets at the front desk?

We stayed there last October and will be again this October. The location is great and my kids loved the waterpark. Fireworks view was also pretty good. All the rooms have bunkbeds and there is a separate shower and bath tub.

What we didn't like so much was that they will also charge you and extra day of parking if you plan to go to the parks on the day of check out and don't plan to drive out until the afternoon. The actual pool itself is pretty weak, but that wasn't important to us.

I stayed in one of the King Corner Suite rooms back in October. I normally stay at the Best Western Park Place Inn when going to DLR. The Courtyard Waterpark Theme Park Entrance is a hotel (rather than a motel like the BWPPI). It's still new, so the rooms look pretty good with a generally modern feel and design. The color scheme was fairly muted, but it went with the overall modern feel to the place. We stayed in th Corner Suite, which had plenty of room and was quite nice. The rooms seemed pretty quiet; I couldn't hear anything from the adjacent rooms. It had a mini-fridge and small microwave which we used to re-heat food for breakfast. They do have a cafe type place downstairs for food, but it can get pricey if you eat there a lot. The staff seemed friendly and responsive as well. Valet parking is the only option, so you do have to call down (or text) to get your car. The was brought pretty quickly, but it is something to keep in mind. Because it is a hotel, there are bellhops that will help with your luggage. Lastly, there is a Waterpark, which is a lot of fun...there are two big slides and another small one. If you don't want to get wet, make sure you stand outside of the water cannon range (I didn't and ended up getting wet!). Overall, I really liked the Courtyard Marriott Theme Park Entrance and would happily stay there again. The main reason my family continues to stay at the BWPPI is that the BWPPI is closer to DLR (so a shorter walk, which matters at the end of the day) and the BWPPI is less expensive.

I cannot even begin to tell you how much we absolutely LOVED this hotel with one exception which I will get to later. We stayed here in March, and there were 13 of us in 3 separate rooms. I'll just list, off the top of my head, why we enjoyed our stay here and have decided to make this our go-to hotel.

A. Hotel Itself
1. It's new.
2. Location! Location! Location! It was a 5-8 minute walk to the security entrance. One trick we utilized was that when we went to the parks in the morning, we used the crosswalk next to the restaraunt, Mimi's. It seemed that most people in the surrounding areas would gather at the crosswalk right in front of the Disneyland entrance and crossed there -- lots and lots of people. By crossing at Mimi's and turning left, we missed that whole crowd.
3. The staff. Very friendly and accommodating. They always greeted us with a smile whether we were coming or going.
4. The lobby. Open, inviting, and never crowded. There were these swivel chairs the kids all loved to spin on, pretending they were the tea cups.
5. The little restaurant in the lobby. Really good breakfasts, a bit pricey but better than waiting in the line at McDonald's in the mornings. Made that mistake -- once.
6. Convenient gift shop. It had breakfast essentials which meant we could avoid any line for breakfast.
7. We couldn't hear other guests running around or making noise.
8. Elevators. They could get a bit crowded. One staircase led to the parking garage. The other led to the deck outside the lobby.

B. The Rooms
1. Much, much larger than I thought they'd be. We had 3 adults and two kids in ours and never felt cramped. Loved the beach mural on the wall too.
2. The little corner bench thing and table. My husband was beyond excited for this. When he needed to be on his laptop, he could sit there comfortably and watch t.v. at the same time. Because it was tucked in the corner, the laptop cable was never in the way.
3. Bunk beds. What kid doesn't love those?
4. The beds. Very, very comfortable. The pillows were too.
5. The t.v. From what I understand it's becoming a thing on hotel t.v.'s where you can log onto your Netflix account, if you have one, and watch your movies and shows. We always like watching "Frasier" before bed, so this was great.
6. Plenty of drawer and closet space. My sister and I are chronic over-packers. My daughters inherited this family gene. **Note** We used the closet door to make a "dressing room." If you're standing with your back to the door, just open the bathroom door and closet door as wide as you can. They'll overlap, and you have plenty of privacy. This came in handy when someone needed to get dressed but the toilet/shower room was being utilized and another is brushing teeth/putting on make-up.

C. The Bathrooms
1. Separate shower and tub/shower combo. This came in handy a couple of times.
2. Kind of weird, but the toilets had a strong flush. I know people with digestive issues who *really* appreciate this. So, yeah, moving on...
3. Nice lighting for make-up application.
4. Two sinks.
**Now, my one complaint** For some reason the housekeeping staff did not replace the toilet paper or leave a back-up roll. You kind of need that with lots of people in one room. My parents and sister had the same problem. I went to the front desk and told them (couldn't find the housekeeping line on the phone) and also reported it in the survey I took. The front desk was very apologetic and showered me with rolls of toilet paper to take to my family. Other than that, housekeeping did a fantastic job. They came early and tidied up quickly.

D. The Water/Pool Area
1. It was kind of chilly, too chilly to swim really, but on a hot day, this would be a fun place to cool off!
2. Towels are plentiful and readily available.
3. Pool was pretty small, but most kids were on the slides and in the splash zone.

That's all I can think of. We absolutely are fans of this hotel and would have no problem staying again. We're pretty picky about hotels. (We have stayed at the new Springhill Suites next to the convention center -- Totally Awesome!! -- and decided to try this one.) It's definitely pricier than some of the other options along Harbor, but it was worth it. Parking fee and all.

ETA: If you haven't listened to the podcast review on the Disneyland edition, I'd recommend it. There is a really nice overview/description of the different aspects of the hotel. When we stayed it wasn't considered a Good Neighbor Hotel, I don't know that status as of yet. As for tickets, we just did the e-ticket, so I can't speak to buying them in the lobby.

Thank you for this review! Makes me very excited about staying here this August!!! Should be more than warm enough to enjoy the pool area !!

I'm glad I finally had a chance to review it. I kept thinking I needed to sing it's praises but never took the chance. I hope you love it, especially in August so you can really enjoy the water park. It was just too chilly for our girls who braved the slides and pools long enough to say they tried them and loved them.

One thing I did forget to mention: We really appreciated that the bathroom sink at this hotel was not too tall for our 6-year-old to reach. She's pretty -- well, really -- short. When we stayed at the Springhill Suites, we had to pick her up to wash her hands or brush her teeth. The absence of a bathtub and having a kid too small for a shower was problematic too. Those two things are what really swayed us to give the Theme Park Entrance a try and ended up tipping the scales towards our favor.

Okay, one more thing. Even though we used the crosswalk at Mimi's in the mornings, we did use the crosswalk at the park entrance in the evenings. There were more lights and people walking "home" on that side of the street at night. I'm a "safety first" kind of girl, and when it's late at night and it's you, your sister, and 11-year-old daughter, it seemed to be the smarter route (not that the area feels dangerous, but, well, safety first.)

I hope you have the best time! It really is fun to walk out and see the Matterhorn and Space Mountain across the street, and that's just part of the fun. Happy and safe travels!!!

ETA: At the end of a long day in the park, it is not a bad walk back to the room. It's super quick. On this trip I was experiencing tremendous, cry-my-eyes-out foot pain (old ankle injury aggravated by stepping on a popcorn kernel coupled with what I just found out was major inflammation on my metatarsals due to the aforementioned injuries and general clumsiness). Not once did I think it was too far to walk; however, our 6-year-old was grateful for the stroller in the evenings. The hotel was close enough that she and I were able to walk back to the hotel, get the stroller, change shoes, and grab warmer clothes and blankets. We lost very little time in the parks doing this each day.

Thanks to you, I'm even more excited to stay at this hotel in August. One question about the Valet parking, do the drivers expect a tip every time they go and get our car?

We didn't need our car during the trip, so once it was parked, it stayed parked. However, if they had brought our car, we would have tipped them, just a couple of bucks. If they run (I've had valets sprint) and the car's A/C is on, I'll throw in a bit more. Those tips add up pretty fast, and valets, in general, work for those tips. So, yeah, I'd imagine they'd expect -- I hate that -- let's just say, really, really, really hope for something.

ETA: My brother has worked as a valet at The Sundance Film Festival, and I know he does it for the tips. My parents knew a lot of young men through their church in Las Vegas who worked as valets for the same reason. I was just thinking about it and thought I'd overshare since that's my point-of-reference. Hope this helps. Just don't feel like you have to drop 5-10 dollars each time they bring your car.

Do you by chance recall the hours if the pool and splash park ?

Here are the park hours from the website:
Waterslides and wet deck open from 10 A.M. to 9 P.M.
Children's wading pool, swimming pool, and hot tub are open 6 A.M. to 10 P.M.
http://www.marriott.com/hotel-info/...rance/surfside-waterpark/psssdla/home-page.mi

(Thanks, Tom, so very much for your reviews of the different hotels as well as the input of the other members of the team. They have been invaluable in our planning, and I always send people "your way" to help in their planning. It's greatly appreciated.)

Thanks
, I for some reason I couldn't find it on the website !!! Glad to know if we skip the afternoon break and head to the hotel earlier we still will have time to play at the water park

Thanks for the reviews and experiences, much appreciated. Tom thanks for the podcast review, that was the way we learned about it. In fact in all my research of onsite and offsite hotels, this one was off the grid. I only found it on the web after knowing it was there. I know in the podcast there were concerns over the price. I'm here to say that for a family of five the bunk beds and second shower will make all the difference. We are me, DW, DD 12, DS 11 and DD 8. Most hotels we bring a blow up bed which is smashed between 2 queens. Since this isn't an option (flying) we were worried about room size. We have done DH in the past which was cramped, but luxurious compared to a normal hotel room size. Even with Fireworks view we came out money ahead against DH. Looking forward to the short walk as well.

For people who have stayed there, what did you think about the bathoom set-up for bigger families? It seems odd to have to go through the tub/sink area to get to the shower/toilet area. I am a mom of four boys, so privacy is an issue. If I were taking a bath, I would have to leave the door unlocked so the rest of the family could access the shower and toilet. I was really excited about a hotel with two bathrooms until I saw the floorplans. Two toilets is probably more important to us than two showers anyway.

For people who have stayed there, what did you think about the bathoom set-up for bigger families?

Our large group included my sister's family in one room. It was her, her husband, two sons, and two daughters -- definitely a full house! They had no complaints about the set up. I will say that, lucky for them, my parent's had a room right next door, so if the bathroom was full, one of them could just go to my parent's room.

In our room it was my husband and myself, my sister (in her mid-20's), and our two daughters. All of us love our privacy and want to respect each other's. The way we handled it was my oldest daughter would use the shower while I used the tub/shower combo. We kept the main door shut in the meantime. I made sure to keep the curtain shut nice and tight, which it stayed. After my daughter was done with the shower, she dressed in there then scooted on out while I was in the tub/shower. When I was done, my sister had the bathroom to herself. We did this every evening. My husband just took his showers in the morning. I just gave a bath to the 6-year-old one night when we had some down time. It worked out pretty well. There were only about two times when both showers were in use and someone needed to use the bathroom. In that case, whoever needed to go just went down to the lobby. It takes some planning, but with a full room, you can make it work.

In your case, being the mom of 4 boys, The strategy my sister, daughter, and I used might work for your boys and husband. There's also the option of some bathing in the morning while the others do it a night. Now, when it's your turn, announce you're going in and let them do what they need to -- brush teeth, comb hair, use the bathroom, etc. Give them a few minutes to get that done. Once they're done, go ahead and shut the main door. If someone really needs to use the bathroom, the lobby is a quick elevator ride away, but if everyone has already gone, you really should be okay.

Hope this helps. We were a little confused on how to make it work that first evening too, but once we figured out a system, it all worked out just fine. It's really not too terrible.

ETA: Right when you walk into your room, there is a large mirror. My sister ended up doing her make up there a couple of times, and my sister's older kids used that mirror for styling their hair. I don't know if that will be an issue for your boys (my 12-year-old nephew has to have his hair just-so.) I thought I'd throw that in too in case it matters.

I agree that the bathroom set-up in the larger rooms was a little odd. Like the PP, we had to figure out a system that worked for us. For us, the adults ended up not using the bathtub and just took showers. We used the bathtub to wash the little kids and to hang stuff to dry on the rod, but that was about it. With the adults using the shower, that left the vanity/sink area in the bathtub room available for others to get ready (to go to the parks or to bed).
