Some of you may remember my thread of a few weeks back where, after considering a Marriott timeshare versus DVC, I went with the Marriott. My financial analysis pointed towards the Marriott, and I would still probably come to the same conclusion. But when it came time to close with Marriott, a work crisis led to an epiphany. I realized that I was going to spend the next seven years or so trying to trade into DVC resorts, and Dean the timeshare guy's advice finally registered (buy where you want to stay).

Then, more importantly, I had a vision of myself at age 8 riding in the monorail through the Disney hotel, circa 1976, thinking to myself that when I became a grownup......

So, in the end I have purchased into the Beach Club, and actually feel good about plunking down the dollars. There may be a time where the Marriott works best for me, but with kids aged 1 and 5, I am looking to ride the magic for many years to come.

Can't wait till next March !

Congrats, and if you decide you don't want to go to Disney, you know there is always someone that does!!!! so it would be very easy to rent out those points and go elsewhere!!!! glad you decided though, I said this before, we go to Myrtle Beach each summer, and because they allowed so many timeshares into the area, you can pick up a nice summer week rental for a song!!

Welcome home, Paul! Sometimes following your heart makes the most sense. Diana

Thanks for posting!

Congratulations and welcome home!

I do remember your post and I remember thinking that this is more than a financial decision. It's great that you came to the same conclusion before it was too late. Welcome home.

Welcome home.

You are so right, there are plenty of other timeshares - and plenty of cheaper alternatives. But there is only one option if you want to walk out your unit and through the backdoor of Epcot, or hop a boat to the MK. If you think that Mickey heads should be cut into the railings on your balcony and can have the thrill of a wake up call from Goofy. And while you can try and trade in, the time and effort required to do so (as well as the stress of wondering if its going to happen) have a value as well.

It sounds like you made the best decision for the situation you presented. Maybe in 7 years or so you could buy a Marriott week as well, they complement each other very nicely.

Were just back from Hawaii. We stayed at the Marriots Kauai Beach Club on a trade 160 DVC points for a week in a one bedroom. We checked out the Marriott's program and in the end we did not like offer, too many extra costs. like $75. to lock off the studio from a one bedroom and $35 to cancel a reservation or change.

The Marriott boasts about deeded rights yes thats true but that new Marriott hotel in 45 years will be a tired property in need of Millions or Billions at that time and if not upgraded it will be a Old World Charmer and new addition to the Quality Inn Vacation Club.

Good luck and Welcome Home
