I was just wondering if anyone has been to the Marriott Grande Vista recently & could recommend which building(s) to stay in:confused: ....I have heard there is some construction going on & would LOVE any suggestions about the resort! I am a 2nd time Disney vacationer (1st time was over 25 yrs ago!), going for the first time with my DH & 6 & 4 yr old daughters in 2 weeks...thanks for any & all suggestions!:goodvibes

Most people suggest either building 79 or 84, these are in the newer section and close to that areas pool. We personally like the quiter side in building 97. THey are doing construction in the main clubhouse/market place area.

Grande Vista is a great resort. The property grounds are really nice and the pools are gorgeous. Not sure if you found it but here is a link to the Marriott website which has a photo tour. The 2 bedroom units are nearly 1300 Sq FT, the 1 bedroom is 884 and the 3 bedroom is over 1700 Sq FT.

We have really enjoyed our stays there and are heading back precruise in Sept.

I can't remember. The one pool has water cannons, well more like water pistols, that the kids can shoot at each other. The water pressure is not strong enough to hurt anyone. They also have these castle looking things, kind of like a turret, around the water cannon which was cool. These are at the pool on the far side of the lake from the main building. At least they were there 1 1/2 years ago. There are also fountains for the kids to run thru which are fun.

I appreciate the feedback.....I'm going to call today & try to book something close to the pools!
I have heard there are no slides at GV, but Marriott Horizons does have them.....hope that helps!

That sounds correct. There are several pools. There is a big one near the main building. The one I mentioned is on the other side of the lake; you walk across a bridge like boardwalk to get there from the main buildings. It isn't very far. It is a big resort; there might even be another one that I am not aware of.

Dioxide, how are the other areas compared to the 2 I mentioned? We enjoyed them so much we didn't even look for another one!

PS - Hey fellow Tugger!

We have only seen the main pool area and the one behind building 97. THe one near 97 seemed to be quieter, though smaller and just one hot tub. There are no pool towels put out there so you have to take the ones from your room. It has a small jumping foutain area for kids. We have never traveled during peak seasons, so I can't vouch for how crowded it can get. We have traveled in May and November, and we have never seem more than a few other people at the pool.
The 4th pool is located behind building 91.

anyone have a resort map for the Grande vista? All I have found online is an old one (http://www.tug1.net/pics/flpics/marga99.jpg). It doesn't show any of the building across the lake. I've heard we should ask for a newer building. But I would just like to know what the layout is.

Also - has anyone had luck requesting an upgrade? DH is an Elite Marriott Rewards member and we've been upgraded at most Marriotts in the past. We used his points to get a 1 br villa but would love to have the 2 br.

So is my DH and we have been ungraded at the hotels but never a vacation club. I think if you want that 2 bedroom, you will probably have to pay for it. We have gotten great locations with in the building that we felt were offered because of SE status, though. The one time we stayed at MGV and rented, we were in the main building, overlooking the pool with a balcony that was as long as my house!

I suspect that if you're renting directly from Marriott that they might make an attempt to honor your placement request but if you're exchanging a timeshare through Interval International I'd be surprised if you get what you want at this resort. We've stayed here a few times and we've not been placed where we've requested for any of our visits - a very different experience from that of sister resort Cypress Harbour where they've gone out of their way to give us exactly what we've asked for. But, you know, that's not bad because this is such a nice resort that pretty much any location is very good.

As others have said, there are two pools that serve the buildings that are furthest from the main clubhouse area. Both of those pool area always seem to be under utilized. There's a nice pool area with lots of seating, a large hot tub and a childrens' water spray area between buildings 97 and 98. This pool also serves buildings 95, 96, 99 and 100 (we stayed in 99 this year and really liked the location) though none of them are very far from the main pool area (the furthest building - 98 - is no more than a 10 minute walk to the main pool). The pool is pretty basic but could handle lots of people. The pool behind building 91 serves buildings 87, 88, 89, 90, 91 and 92 (we've stayed in building 89). Also a basic pool set up with (I think) a hot tub, none of which ever seems very busy. It would take 10-12 minutes from the furthest buildings (88 and 89) in this section to walk to the main pool.
The main pool area has a large, rambling community pool, a lap pool, a couple of hot tubs, a sauna, and I think there's another small pool there, too. This is conveniently located next to the activities center, the marketplace store, the pizza hut express and the lighthouse bar. This pool is clearly the center of water activity for most guests. The buildings around this pool area are 80 through 83 and 93 - 94, which are across the street.
The newest buildings, 77-79 and 84-86, are across the lake from the main pool area and are served by the Plaza del Sol pool area and the Copa Loca bar and grill. Though the buildings in this area are the newest at the resort most of the older buildings (perhaps all of the older buildings now) have been renovated and are very nice.
This is a topnotch resort with IMHO a pleasant and responsive staff. The only issue we've ever had here is that is seems like there's never enough parking available in the older parts of the resort.

Wow Dick- thanks for all that info:worship: .....we are getting a room "free" with my DH's Marriott points, so I am thankful for whatever we get, but would ideally like to be close to the pool with the water cannons. I called up yesterday (I called several weeks ago & they told me to call back 2 weeks before we arrive) & requested either Bldgs 79 or 84, so we'll see what we get...I heard the marketplace is under construction and the main area as well.....It is our first real family vacation (other than going to visit other family members for "vacation"), so all of us are chomping at the bit to get down there! :woohoo:
I appreciate all of the feedback & will let you know what happens!

Wow Dick- thanks for all that infoQUOTE]

You're welcome. I'm sure that you and your family will enjoy this resort. And it certainly comes at a great price! I had heard that they were going to make some changes in the main activities area including moving and re-tasking the lighthouse bar, so I'm not surprised to hear of the possible construction eventhough they hadn't started anything when we were there last month. Regardless of where you end up in the resort I would highly recommend that new pool area over by buildings 79 and 84 - and the Copa Loca bar and grill. That's a favorite for my family on our Grande Vista visits.

Enjoy!

I had heard and ice cream shop is going in the lighthouse. I think it was in my owners newsletter but I could be halucinating.;)
