Marriage: The Trip Report - Update 2/28 - Final Thoughts & Link to Disneyland TR!

Thanks for the pictures of Yak & Yeti. We've never eaten there or been inside, I think I would like it. I know for a fact we will like the food if you are comparing it to PF Chang's...it's our favorite!!

Glad you were content with accomplishing all you did in your day. You really did get the major stuff in there and at a nice relaxed pace. :thumbsup2 for compromise.

Btw: got your PM - thanks!! :goodvibes I'm going to read it again and see if I have more questions and I'll write you back. But not this week, because this week...YOU ARE GOING TO WDW!!!! :woohoo:

Love all the Ak pictures! And yes, it does have awesome theming! It is a picture takers paradise.

I like the frozen lemonade too. I've been reading about a jalapeno cheese stuffed pretzel that you can only get at AK that I would like to try next time though. It has a lot of fans here on the DIS! Ever tried that?

Yay for Henry taking a nap! I think they just get so tired with all the stimulation that they cannot fight it no matter how hard they try!

It certainly looks and sounds like you had an awesome safari ride. I remember way back when the park first opened, the drivers used to stop the vehicle a good bit and let you take pictures. But, after a year or two, they stopped doing that and I was a bit disappointed.

Your meal at Yak & Yeti looks really good....especially the fried beans.

Awesome safari ride! :thumbsup2 I wish I was at Animal Kingdom right now. I wish I was anywhere but here right now. I just got a second pay cut in a month at work and it finals week for school.

Mmmmm....PF Changs. Yum! Last month they had a coupon for free lettuce wraps on their facebook page. I dont know if you have it in New York but PeiWei is a fastfood version of PF Changs (they own PeiWei) and they have the lettuce wraps there too!! With that being said, i've never eaten at Yak and Yeti. I should try it.

Anyway, have a GREAT Trip!:banana::yay::woohoo:

I'll definitely be dreaming about Disney a lot because now i'm not sure when we will be going back. :guilty:

That WAS some mighty fine pixie dust you experienced there! :wizard:

When my son was around Henry's age he started telling me when he was tired. He'd either curl up on the couch or actually climb in bed at home and have a nap or rest whenever he felt he needed it.

He's never done that at Disney though! But on consideration, that's likely because we only keep them up past nine pm one time on vacation. We don't go back to the hotel for afternoon breaks at all so to avoid meltdowns, we ensure we only have one late night followed by a late morning. It does mean missing most of the fireworks and nighttime shows but we'll do them when the kids are older.

Though this is a more "go with the flow, slow down and relax" trip...you still seem to be packing your days with fun and adventure! Which is great for us...lots of pics! :thumbsup2

Fabulous photos in AK. Lunch at Yak & Yeti was looking good too. We ate there in 2010 an enjoyed our meal.

Loved the picture of Henry with the big dino. It's just so cute.

Just a few more days and you'll be there again!:banana:

It's good to hear that the safari vehicles are stopping more. It's so hard to get good pictures when they don't stop and the vehicle's bouncing all over the place. I wonder if they'll keep doing that or if it's dependent on how busy the park is.

Um, you've been in NYC subways, haven't you?

Overall, it looked like a great, relaxed day at the Animal Kingdom Brook!

:rotfl: about the subways! SO true!

I hope they are doing the stopping more often as well - it added such a nice experience to the ride.

What a fabulous safari! How cool!!!

I love me that frozen lemonade as well - YUM!!!!

Henry is so sweet :lovestruc What a good boy to take a nap like that!!

I was so surprised that Henry just decided to take a nap. Usually at this age it takes some convincing.

Oh, I love these posts! I *just* did a post on my PTR about needing to fall in love with AK. These pictures have made me already start falling in love with it! So much I have yet to see and do!

Glad to hear that! I really do enjoy AK. It has grown a bit on Joe. He can't see animals while on the safari unless they are very close to the vehicle due to an eye condition, but he always enjoys watching Henry experience it....that and Expedition Everest. ;)

I agree with Jen, the next time you go to Y&Y you must leave room for the fried wontons - so yummy, I almost licked the plate when I had them

Love all the AK pictures  That's awesome that the safari driver stopped to allow you to take pictures! Would be nice if they would start doing more of that, I'm sure the decision to stop or not is somewhat dictated by how busy the park is though.

I bet you and Glenn are right about the busyness of the park and the safari. I would love if they changed the experience to be more this way though...I could do without the high-speed chase at the end too, but I know many people love that.

My boys and I played on game on hold.. I had it on speaker phone and they were trying to guess the ride/attraction :lmao:
:lmao:
We go to NYC often (I'm in Baltimore) and that's the first thing I smell as soon as I step into the subways from Penn Station.. BLAH.

But I bet he was on the phone too.

yeah!! 6 more days!!

Great idea on the game! :thumbsup2 Poor Nikki (NikkiLovesWDW! and a fellow TA) was stuck on hold with the Radio Disney music instead of the Parks.

Oh, the lovely stench of NYC - nothing like it! It is the WORST in the summer.

That is soooo how I think! Great to see someone else does too! lolNice photos of all the decor! I really want to take more detailed pictures, but I'm guilty of being to go,go,go:guilty:

The Maharajah Jungle Trek is another thing we need to do. Maybe next year!

That is one benefit about going a bit slower - I always catch little details that I never had before. :thumbsup2 AK is FULL of them too!

I really enjoy the Maharajah Jungle Trek, there are tons and tons of details on the trail-it's beautiful just to walk it, even if the animals aren't cooperating.

Sounds like a pretty perfect AK day - you did what you wanted to do and still managed to take it easy :goodvibes
I am really looking forward to soaking up all the AK detail on our next trip - I've been reading a couple of new books (Disney Secrets and Mousejunkies) and am full of hope for a relaxed stroll through each and every park. But from the sound of it you didn't hold out the whole 10 days and I fear I won't either :rotfl2:

And you got lucky with those tigers! I'd love to see them do something other than doze :rotfl:

 Nope, didn't hold out at all! You'll see.... it all comes crashing down at BLT and I drag poor Joe all over the World! LOL

Fantastic update! I've never been inside the Yak & Yeti so it's nice to see pictures. It's beautiful! Looks like you had a great safari ride for sure.

Yak & Yeti is really beautiful! I wish I had grabbed more detail shots. The light fixtures upstairs are all different, and there are so many things on the wall...it really is stunning! Even just peeking inside the front door gives you a taste for it.

Well, I am addicted to reading TR... I recently found yours... although how I don't remember.... I think you posted on someone else's TR I was reading and followed your link...
ANYWAY- back on topic... I was reading someone else's TR when you'll NEVER GUESS what I saw: A PICTURE OF PAUL! Except the person WRITING the TR didn't take it.... they took a picture of a picture of it while they were at Destination D. You being a TA probably know what Destination D is, but I don't... I'm guessing they teach you little known stuff about Disney?
Anyway, apparently in this Desination D thing they they discuss strange Disney stuff.... and Paul was one of the topics!
It was in THIS TR:
An Imagineer Fell For Bill - **New 7/25 Destination D Day 1 3 parts**

It's in Destination D, part 3... I think it's the second picture. You might ask that Diser what they said about Paul.

Love your TR! I just wish (like with all TRs) that you would post more, more often... it's like reading a good book, in pieces... I don't want to put the book marker in just yet! Enjoying your fun! :)
Have fun at the Agents Education!

:welcome: I'm glad you found me!

I know just who's report you were reading...mrsksomeday! :goodvibes I read her report too. I LOVE that they included Paul in the presentation at Destination D! And yes, I do know what Destination D is - but mostly because I'm a Disney GEEK. They don't teach anything like that during the TA training. It's mostly just about the parks, some history and the options available.

I wish I would post more often too. :rotfl2: I mean to, life just gets so busy. There will be another update before I leave for our trip. :thumbsup2

I love your pics of the safari ride Brook! :thumbsup2 It sure looks like like you were in Africa - I can't wait to get in one of them jeeps!

Your meal at Yak and Yeti looks great!

Yay on seeing Baby Lilly in May and :woohoo: on it being one week until your trip!

I can't believe how close the trip is! Just 2 days now! :yay::yay::yay:

So excited for you! I think the last few days of anticipation are almost as fun as actually being there. So sorry you were sick but happy it happened now and not during your trip.

I am so glad I got sick while at home instead of in Disney. No sickies in Disney!!!

These last couple of days have been full of excitement, and...anxiety! I have quite a bit left to do-but I piled a bunch on Joe this morning, so I feel better now. :rolleyes1

I'm finally all caught up!!! You know me, I never post a short reply -- but I am just exhausted tonight! My original plan was to go to bed early (by around 10:30-11pm) and wake up early. I have to get up & bake banana bread & cool & frost it before around noon. Wish me luck! :lmao:

Instead of doing that, I've watched Mickey's Adventures in Wonderland about 5 times in a row with Luke while catching up on DIS & writing an update for my own PTR. Oops!

Anyway, back to your TR!!! I LOVED all of your pictures, as usual!!! I thought it was funny when you said you didn't capture as many details at DHS because I thought your pictures were amazing! I also caught alot of details that I've never seen/taken pictures of before! I'm going to have to look for them in September!!!

I had no idea about the rumor about moving the hat. Not sure how I missed that one! But then again, I didn't know about Cosmic Ray's until you mentioned that as well. I have notes to get good pictures out on the balcony at CR's this trip. I'm really hoping they haven't closed off that area yet for the refurb/enclosure of the outdoor seating area.

The entire Animal Kingdom day looked great!!! :thumbsup2

I loved the pictures from Rafiki's!!! Sooo cute!!!! Henry is really growing up! I still can't believe how quickly time flies by -- but I love how we can relive those moments through our Disney pictures!!! I love comparing each trip's pictures to the next!

Normally things don't really bother me but I wish I wouldn't have looked at those bats before going to bed!!!

I've never seen the inside of Yak & Yeti -- I usually just grab CS there & my DH and Luke eat somewhere else. I think the first year Luke went to Disney, he fell asleep & ate later and last year he shared with me. I love the outdoor seating area there as well!!! Your food looked delicious -- I've never tried either of those meals so maybe I will look for an ADR there next year. After all, marriage is about compromise, right? ;)

Your TR is really helping me because everytime I get frustrated with my plans for our trip & think "I have to do this or that for my DH" -- I just think back to your TR & how marriage is a compromise!!! It's really true & I agree 100% but sometimes its nice to have a reminder! :goodvibes

I cannot believe you are leaving in less than a week!!!! I am sooo excited for your trip & mobile updates!!! I'm sure I'll talk to you again before you leave, but have a wonderful trip!!!

I haven't heard much lately on the Cosmic Ray's rumor or the Hat rumor...we'll see what happens! I hope it's still open for you!

I look back on old Disney pictures and am amazing at how much Henry changes from trip to trip. He's gotten SO big the past few months, I can't believe it. He really is becoming a big boy and is ready for school. It's exciting and sad at the same time.

Yak & Yeti is beautiful inside-and the food is great! There are so many amazing details inside the restaurant and upstairs there are windows that overlook the pathways, it's a great place for a nice lunch. Plus...air conditioning!

Great updates from AK! The trails are really one of the absolute highlights of that park for me. I think they never become boring... Hope you will be able to visit them on your next trip: Less than one week from now!! :cool1:

I love the trails too - they are beautiful! Even if the animals aren't cooperating, they are still enjoyable to walk. I always catch something I didn't see the previous trip. I know Henry is going to love walking it this time, he's gotten VERY into animals lately.

Those are some great pictures from your safari!! Good animal luck was in your cards for sure.

Those fried green beans looks so delicious and I don't even like green beans. It's the only vegetable that I really don't like.

Sometimes I want to be Henry and just say I'm tired and fall asleep in 20 seconds. That would be the life. :lmao:

I'm not a big fan of green beans either, but these....SO GOOD! Deep fried truly makes things delicious. :rolleyes1 The sauce is a chimchuri (I believe) and was very tasty.

:rotfl: about going to sleep in 20 seconds! I couldn't agree more! And then to get pushed around when tired or sleeping...even better!

Stunning pictures of the giraffes!

Too funny that Henry announced he was tired and then promptly fell asleep.

How many more days until you leave again? Not many, right? Are you all packed?

I thought of you while taking those Jackie! :goodvibes I knew you would appreciate them. Not quite as good as your AMAZING experience a while back though. I keep hoping for one of those!

TWO days until we leave! We leave Friday night....and no...I haven't even pulled out the suitcases. Yikes!

I never actually did do it. We were going to back when we had planned to go in Dec. 2010. We had 2 nights at AKL before our package. You can actually pick them up 3 days prior. We ended up canceling, so I never got to try it out.

Ahhhhh. Makes sense!

I am so confused with all of this!! :lmao:
I know on the DIS, everyone says you can.. but when I call Disney they say you can't...
What are you telling your clients? :confused3

I bet the official word is "no", but they do it if you ask in person....but I have no idea for sure!

awesome update.. I am so excited to hear about the free dining extended through March that is when we are planning on going :cool1:.. yak and yeti looks delish I would love to try it when we go back.

have a fun safe trip :thumbsup2

:yay: Glad you are able to get Free Dining! I was excited when they released some 2012 dates, I know quite a few people were looking for those.

Great updates, Brook.

First, I hope you are feeling better.

Love the safari pictures -- especially the giraffe (my favorite).

I am glad you enjoyed your meal at Yak & Yeti.

How cute that Henry announced he needed a nap and then was out. I love it. He's such a cutie pie.

Oh...and I skipped the picture of the bats (I don't do bats -- ever!).

 I'll try to remember to put out a big warning on future bat pictures! :goodvibes

And yes, I am feeling better-back to normal, thank you for asking!

That picture of Henry hugging the yellow dinosaur's leg is ADORABLE :lovestruc So precious.

AHHH I am so excited for you!! ONE WEEK! Are you doing a trip report?

Isn't that funny? He just ran right up there and hugged it!!

Yes, I will be doing a TR! I haven't decided how...I still have a ways to go on this one, plus my May solo, and then I'll have this coming trip. I might do more of a picture-report for May and less details because I took ZERO notes. And I want to start a PTR for our June cruise!

I will also be Facebooking and Tweeting live. :thumbsup2 I'll try to get on here and share a bit too.

I love love love that you took Henry to the boneyard to manage the single rider instead of a more standard child swap.

And, dare I say, the "I'm going to take a nap" is a sign of a child growing up, knowing what he wants..and needs.

:goodvibes

GREAT updates.

The Boneyard swap really works well for us. One time we were in there for quite a while when I randomly thought about doing EE Single Rider line, and it worked so well, it's become our tradition! I think by the time Henry outgrows the Boneyard, he'll be ready to ride with us. :thumbsup2

Him telling us he was going to nap was SO nice. Sure, I'll miss aspects of the toddler, but it's exciting to see him grow up and mature too.

Great updates. I love your pictures of the safari and the jungle trek. We've yet to do any of the trails at AK. And, while I don't want to give too much away, after our most recent trip to AK, my husband is convinced me could "skip it," the next time we go. :confused3 I had fully intended to use your single rider/Boneyard plan for a ride on EE, but the single rider line was closed. Oh well. Looks like you had a great time and Yak and Yeti looks good.

Oh that stinks about the Single Rider line being closed! Were the standby wait times long? They usually only close it if they are very short.

And skip AK?! That would be so hard for me! I think Joe would be fine skipping it too, but I really enjoy it. The trails are amazing, Joe actually likes the Tree of Life trails the best since most of the animals are in smaller pens and he can see them. Plus gorgeous views of the tree and waterfalls.

:woohoo:

Yak & Yeti is very good! PF Changs IS better, in my opinion, but Y&Y is tasty too. I've never had chicken lettuce cups quite as good as PF Changs. :lovestruc

Your welcome on the PM!!! Definitely let me know if you have more questions!

It is! Everything from the ground to the sky is detailed. I love Joe Rhode's work, I can't wait to see Aulani....someday!

Yes! I have tried the jalapeno cheese stuffed pretzel! I tried it in May. I tried on this Feb/March trip actually, but the gal in front of me bought the LAST ONE. I think that's on a future AK day... Anyway, while it was very tasty, it was a bit too cheesy for me, I'm not huge fan of cheese. If you like cheese with a bit of heat, you'll love it.

I wonder why they stopped it? It makes for such a better experience when they stop the jeeps! I hope they change it back!

Awesome safari ride! I wish I was at Animal Kingdom right now.

Anyway, have a GREAT Trip!

I'll definitely be dreaming about Disney a lot because now i'm not sure when we will be going back.

Oh no...a second pay cut in a month?! Yuck. I'm so sorry to hear that.

Oh my goodness, I wish we had a PeiWei! I don't think I've ever seen one...I guess that doesn't mean anything though, considering how large the City is. I do believe we have a PF Changs somewhere though....

That WAS some mighty fine pixie dust you experienced there!

Henry has started to do this a bit more at home too - just yesterday, right at nap time, he laid down on the couch and closed his eyes! I was surprised. Usually it still takes some convincing. We don't keep to a schedule really at Disney, he's almost always up late and we skip naps about every other day. It seems to work out though, he's got enough excitement and adrenaline to avoid major meltdowns...usually!

All caught up!! you are leaving in 3 days!!! I will be watching for FB updates!!

Hi Mary! Yes, I will definitely be updating Facebook!

Fabulous photos in AK. Lunch at Yak & Yeti was looking good too. We ate there in 2010 an enjoyed our meal.

Loved the picture of Henry with the big dino. It's just so cute.

Just a few more days and you'll be there again!

I think we'll end up going back to Yak & Yeti sooner, rather than later. I do want to try Tusker House breakfast on our next trip though.

2 Days!!!

I can hardly believe it!

Tomorrow is Thursday...then DISNEY DAY! :hyper:

I have a bit left on my To Do list, but things are really coming together. The suitcases aren't out of the closet yet, but I have lists and piles of what I need - so not a big concern! :thumbsup2

One big item still on my To Do list is an update here! Tomorrow or Friday before we leave it WILL get done. ::yes:: :goodvibes

And, in case you haven't seen, I will be Facebooking and Tweeting live from Disney World. If we aren't friends on Facebook, you can PM me your info. Or you can follow me on Twitter @joebrookhenry or at @mouseworldtrvl

And, if you have any requests for me while I'm gone, I'll do the best I can to accommodate them - such as a postcard for your child, or a picture of something in particular, etc.

So close!!! :hyper:

If I don't get back over here... HAVE A GREAT TRIP!!! pixiedust:

I'll try to remember to check facebook!!

Have a great trip Brook! I will be following on FB.
