Marriage: The Trip Report - Update 2/28 - Final Thoughts & Link to Disneyland TR!

Ah, I got all teary-eyed seeing Henry's First Day of School pictures. That frog backpack was the height of cuteness! Glad he enjoyed every minute of it!

Back to your Boardwalk breakfast -- that is so what would happen to me. I would envision this great morning of sheer family joy while sipping coffee and the reality would turn out to be the exact opposite. Thank goodness for cheese danishes. :goodvibes The pictures turned out gorgeous, though. ;)

Ahhh, those are such cute first day of school pictures. I think I started following your early trip reports via Memom and Jill's trip report a long time ago. Wow, time flies.

Love your thought about long days and short years. It's so, so true. Awesome 1st day of school pics. What a cute little guy!

Great update! I mean, I know that the breakfast didn't go exactly as planned, but often when you have time to look back later, they're the best ones ;)
Henry looks like he had a great first day of school!

I can't believe Henry is in school! Waaaaa! :sad1: Where has the time gone? I ADORE the posed picture, if that isn't cute then I don't know what is.

The idea of a nice leisurely breakfast on the Boardwalk sounded lovely... :rolleyes1 Sorry it didn't live up to expectations. :sad2:

Henry looked adorable on the first day of school!!! Such a cutie! I'm glad things have started out well for him & he loves it!

Glad to hear Henry is doing well in school, but I'm worried about that Mickey...

Yikes. What a way to start the day. I'm glad your cheese danish made things better. Your pictures are making me miss the Boardwalk so very much! Sigh. I need to get back there on my next trip.

It was a rough morning! Thankfully it drastically improved from there and we got the magic back.

I miss the Boardwalk as well! After two trips there I've realized it really is my favorite resort. :lovestruc

Wow, that Boardwalk looks deserted! Guess they are all in the Bakery:lmao:
Your breakfast sounds like many of our meals...except double the chaos with 6 of us! I am more than a bit nervous about that little Mickey:headache: cant wait to read more:thumbsup2

 So true! Everyone was still in line at the Bakery!

Those hectic meals are such pain...I cannot even imagine how crazy it can get with four kids versus 1! :scared1:

Love the Boardwalk photos but wow what a start to the morning! I'm glad it got better and Henry was happy with his small Mickey Mouse figure :thumbsup2

Isn't the Boardwalk so pretty in the morning? After our chaos we could really enjoy the beauty of it all.

Well that's one way to start a day...oy!! But you can't beat the view and the Boardwalk does look deserted...so plus for you!!

Awww...how cute is that Mickey figurine!! Such a nice touch!!!!!

The view did make up for the craziness! And, after things were consumed and tears from the little one were dried, we really could enjoy it.

Plus, a crazy meal always makes for great TR fodder! ;)

What a nice relaxing breakfast:rotfl2: I hope the day gets better!
Little toys held in little hands..........I too sense trouble a brewing.

All my dreams of that nice, relaxing, waterside breakfast disappeared at the first mini-meltdown inside the Bakery. But, it did end up being just fine, thankfully!

Well it was a nice idea!! Glad things worked out in the end, I know I always get frazzled in those little bakeries with the huge lines (Boulangerie Patisserie, I'm looking at you...)

One time DBF and I also thought it would be so nice and pleasant to have breakfast on the Boardwalk. It was SO cold and windy, but we ordered some hot drinks, sat at one of those little tables, and were entirely determined to have our lovely breakfast! It was very nice (I love their chocolate croissants!), but I'd say I'm only going there super-early and under ideal weather conditions only! :rotfl:

Oh gosh, that bakery ALWAYS has such a long line and it's soooooo teeny in there! Joe gets frazzled on which side to choose, or what to do every time, so that always adds to my frustration! :rolleyes1

Yup, everyone can have an off morning- even at Disney! I'm glad you didn't let it get you down. I've never been to the Boardwalk Bakery at breakfast, but it does seem like every time I have ventured inside it was a madhouse. The lack of a proper "food court" or to-go place, is in my opinion, one of the only downsides to the boardwalk.

You've got me worried about Henry's Mickey! I hope he doesn't get lost!

I do agree-the QS food options are pretty limited at the Boardwalk. They do have the little stands that sell corn dogs and things, but they aren't always open. We haven't really had a problem with it because we have a villa and bring food/order delivery, and Epcot is around the corner, but I do wish it had more of a solid place for food. I *think* the Bellvue Lounge now offers breakfast too - which looking back we should have done and just taken it out to the Boardwalk!

Ugh those birds on the Boardwalk are the world's most annoying creatures. Seriously people, why do you insist on feeding the birds?!?!

I know - they are just annoying! Usually they don't bug me too much, I just laugh and dodge them, but that morning it was just one more thing to add to the loveliness of that morning! :rotfl:

Beautiful pictures of the Boardwalk, Brook.

So, did Henry end up eating ANY of the Frosted Flakes (my favorite cereal by the way)?

Really...no toaster? That is kind of odd.

Nope. Henry didn't eat ONE flake. And I knew he'd do that!! I think Joe ended up eating them though. :rotfl:

And the no toaster thing is VERY weird. Why would they sell bagels with cream cheese or butter if they can't even toast them? They can bake cakes back there, but can't toast a bagel?! It was really frustrating to me. I could have gone for a muffin or something, but I usually don't crave sweet in the morning. I'm weird! ;)

:lmao: slacker!!!

What a glorious start to a relaxing day! ;) some times a plan is better!!

But it still looks like a great start to a great day!

:rotfl2: I know! I have been meaning to update everyday since we got back, but the day disappears and I'm exhausted at night. My goal is to post here once a week, a May TR I have yet to start once a week, a August TR I have yet to start once a week, and a cruise PTR I have yet to start once a week, and my blog once a week. I think I'm kidding myself if I think I can do it! :lmao: We'll see. With H in school I do get more freetime though.

Overall it was a good way to start the day, it just had some big rough moments! When it all settled down it was great!

Oh no, I'm worried about that foreshadowing!

I'm sorry that it wasn't quite the leisurely breakfast you were hoping for, but that happens sometimes. Hopefully, the rest of the day went better.

It does happen - at least once a trip it seems! Real life interrupts that magic! ;)

He is such a cutie pie!!!!!

Jill in CO

Thank you!!!

:rotfl: I'm so sorry your morning wasn't as relaxing as you had hoped! I hate when things continuously go wrong... it's so frustrating!

But aww Henry's first day of school! He looks so excited! I'm glad he likes it - that is awesome :thumbsup2 I just watched the Full House episode where little Michelle goes off to school and this totally reminded of me of it! I love that age - it's just the best :goodvibes

Oh gosh - Full House! I loved that show. Michelle was the middle one right? DJ was the oldest, and what was the little one's name?? This really is a sweet age. He's straddling being a toddler and a big boy. :cutie:

I already commented on FB, but I'll do so here as well. WHERE THE HECK DID THOSE YEARS GO? He is just too darn cute and so "confident" and ready for school. :thumbsup2

Can you believe it?! I remember looking at a picture of Brooklynn (MeMom's granddaughter) when she was 6 months old here on the DIS, of her sitting up, and thinking "When will Henry be able to do that?" and now he's in SCHOOL. It's fun to watch them grow up though, isn't it?

I hate birds SO much...I was bitten by a Goose on the toe at the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago in my teens because I wouldn't share my soft pretzel with it. Ever since I get so nervous when birds are around!!!

Oh no...I really hope Henry doesn't loose his Mickey!

He looks SO cute on his first day of school! That is great that he was so excited, and enjoyed it so much!!!! :goodvibes

Oh my gosh! That is awful about the goose! I can see why you get nervous! Thankfully I've never been attacked. The worst was just when I had one LAND on me and steal my waffle fry at Kennedy Space Center. Yuck...I can still feel it on my hand.

Yum! I could go for that sandwich right now. I should be cooking supper...but your food looks better! ;)

Now that I know they had that peanutbutter cupcake, I am mad I never walked over there!

 I've looked at the Disney Food Pictures thread at night before going to bed and gotten hungry just from looking at it! So did you have eggs for dinner?

Next trip, that peanut butter cupcake can make your short list! I haven't tried it yet, but it does sound REALLY good right now...

Wow - you really remember that Boardwalk morning with such great accuracy. I am impressed. Well - of course Henry wants the cereal. Sheesh - mom! You're right. It's all about the marketing.

Love you pictures. Right now I had a 3 night reservation at VWL for June (following my 5 night treehouse stay), but I think I am going to try for BWV at 7 months. Suggestions for a location? The treehouse is for a big group. Then I am following it with a studio for just Denny and I. We'll need some downtime!

Congrats to Henry on his first day of school. Yes - from here on out it will fly!

I took notes this trip!!! May and August, not so much.... But this trip I was REALLY good at notes! I typed into my iPhone whenever I had a free minute - on the buses and stuff.

For the Boardwalk I would recommend a Village Green view (if you have a Garden view room). That is where our first trip to the BWV was and it was AWESOME. You got some of the Boardwalk and water, plus the Garden and it was very close to the elevators. Looooooved it!

Glad Henry had such a great first few days of school! Such a cutie pie:goodvibes

Thank you!!!

OK, I am going to have to add eating at the Boardwalk Bakery to my list of things to do in April. Thanks for the pictures...we were just able to switch our reservation from SSR to BWV and I can't wait! :yay:

You did?! YAYYYYYYY! I'm so excited that you could switch it! I know you've been itchin' to stay there! I hope you LOVE it!

I have had those times. You try your darndest to just relax and go with it but it keep slapping you in the face.

All in all you had breakfast and everyone ate. Maybe not what you originally intended but everyone ate something.

A second cup of coffee is just what you neeed that morning.

In the Boardwalk the Bellvue lounge used to serve breakfast. It was the same stuff - bagels, pasteries coffee and cold stuff but when we stayed there way back in 2001 pre -9-11 we made it our morning stop. Not having a real counter service was a problem that trip.

I hope Mickey sticks around.

Exactly! That real life kept interrupting our magical breakfast!

I believe the Bellvue Lounge still does that - and we should have just gone there and then out to the Boardwalk to eat, but I didn't even think of it! And perhaps they have a toaster....

Yeah for a good first day at school! I love the picture of him posing - so cute.

Isn't he a ham?! I told him to stand and smile and that is what I got!!!! They make cute pics though!

:goodvibes The pictures turned out gorgeous, though. ;)

Isn't that backpack adorable? He picked it out at Old Navy.

Cheese danishes and coffee really can solve life's problems at times. :rotfl: After all the craziness it really was a nice morning thankfully! We just laughed it off (but we were NOT laughing in the moment!)

Ahhh, those are such cute first day of school pictures. I think I started following your early trip reports via Memom and Jill's trip report a long time ago. Wow, time flies.

Isn't it crazy how quickly it goes? When I got back on the DIS, planning our 2nd trip, Henry's 1st, I think he was about 4 months old! I was posting on MeMoms' shortly after that, I remember asking Jill all sorts of "baby at Disney" questions!

Love your thought about long days and short years. It's so, so true. Awesome 1st day of school pics. What a cute little guy!

Isn't it? I cannot remember who told me that at one of Henry's baby showers, and I didn't understand it at the time, but it's practically my motto now!

Great update! I mean, I know that the breakfast didn't go exactly as planned, but often when you have time to look back later, they're the best ones ;)
Henry looks like he had a great first day of school!

They are the most memorable and laughable, that is for certain! There always has to be a hiccup (or two) in a trip anyway, right??

I can't believe Henry is in school! Waaaaa! :sad1: Where has the time gone? I ADORE the posed picture, if that isn't cute then I don't know what is.

Thanks LL! It has flown by, hasn't it? He's getting to be a little man!

Thankfully after all the chaos of the actual breakfast, it greatly improved! In the moment though...not fun!!!

Glad to hear Henry is doing well in school, but I'm worried about that Mickey...

Stay tuned....Mickey drama later this night, but first a very fun afternoon!

Hi! I have been lurking on this report trying to catch up! Also went back and read the December TR lol. I went away this same weekend! But not to Disney! But I remember having to switch my flight because of the Hurricane that never happened! Sounds like this is a great trip so far!

Awe, I speak of you guys very often too. I'll be sending Hs Halloween card soon ;)

I believe there are 3 sets of characters for the monorail. The one that comes with the monorail, the pixar one, and the other one they are selling with hook I think. I could tell you around Christmas when I take my monorail out lol

As I fell asleep the previous night I thought it would be a nice, leisurely, beautiful way to start the day if we had breakfast on the Boardwalk. There were little tables out by the water - it would be such a great way to start the day! So at 8 AM-ish when Henry woke us all up we threw on hats and wind pants and headed down to the Boardwalk Bakery. The line was out the door, but it was moving quickly so we were not deterred.

On our slow retreat to the room a maintenance worker stopped his golf cart, got off and gave Henry a small Mickey Mouse figure. He was ELATED with this thing and it went everywhere with us for the rest of the trip. (foreshadowing....dum, dum, dummmmm!)

Okay, how on earth did you ever pick what you wanted to eat? Everything in those cases looks DELICIOUS!

How does it work that no matter how much you buy kids, it's always the littlest things they latch onto the most! Henry looks so happy with his new Mickey. :goodvibes

Yum! Everything from the Bakery looks yummy! Even the frosted flakes. lol.

Henry is so cute. I love his little backpack. What a big boy going to school! So glad he loved it!

Wonderful updates, Brook!!!! :thumbsup2

A belated "Happy Birthday" to Henry! I know I already told you on FB -- but an extra birthday wish never hurts!

Luke was THRILLED to look through the pictures of Henry's birthday on FB! He always says "He is my friend mommy and his mommy is your friend too." I promise to attempt to get a video of it at some point -- but as I told you, everytime I get that camera out, the cuteness stops & he sits there like a statue! Ooooh I almost forgot about this! Last time, when I was showing him the video you posted on my wall, he said "There's Henry -- but where's his mommy & daddy? Are they at Disney?" I think he definitely has our love for Disney figured out!!!! :rolleyes1

FB is completely ruining my DIS time! I always think that I've replied to someone here or caught up on a report -- only to realize that I've just looked through someone's facebook photo album!!! I seriously need to work on my time management between FB and DIS!

I'm sooo thrilled that Henry loves school so much! It was so nice seeing the photos of him with that huge smile on his face!!! Are things still going well? I hope they are!!! Also, I really love his backpack!!! Super cute!

Back to Disney -- The Boardwalk Bakery sounds like a great way to start the morning!!! I know all too well how nice relaxing mornings turn "not so relaxing" -- we all have those days!!! Those peanut butter muffins in the display case look delicious!!! But I think I'd rather have a ham & cheese croissant! YUM!!! I love breakfast sandwiches on croissants! They are so hard to find around here so I will definitely get a few while at Disney!!!

Super cute pics of Henry at breakfast! And how sweet of the worker to give Henry the Mickey figure!!! Little things mean the most, especially at Disney!!!!

I doubt I'll be back on DIS again before leaving, so don't update too much without me, ok?! ;)

Don't you just hate the packaging of "kid's" foods! :headache: That is something that has always annoyed me too. In fact, I just stopped taking DD to the grocery store with me because of it. I can go in and buy the good stuff in the plain box and she will eat it and be happy, but if she sees the junk in the cool box, that's what she thinks she wants! Maybe we should invent a product line of healthy foods that have the cool marketing! :thumbsup2 I can just see it know... Mickey head shredded wheat! :rotfl:

The pictures of the Boardwalk are beautiful though. A great way to start my Sunday morning!

Congrats to Henry on starting school! Be prepared though, once they start school the time moves twice as fast. :sad1:

I used to allow those cereals only outside our house. My son used to call them "Nana's house cereal.":lmao:

Hi Brook,

I just found your TR last night and have been intensely reading it for the last 24 hours!!! Your little family is so adorable and Henry is just the cutest little boy:) You should seriously consider trying to get him in commercials or print work! Your relationship with your husband is similar to mine when it comes to vacation planning. I do all the trip bookings and planning and my husband reminds me that he doesn't want to rush in any parks and just wants to take it easy since he works hard all year and needs his down time when on vacation. I used to fight it and get frustrated but I've come to the realization that I would enjoy the trips more if I tended to stop and smell the roses a bit more too, so it works for us both now. I always have my ADR's planned ahead and what parks we'll be in for each day but now we have the mindset that whatever we get done in a day is what gets done. I still feel frustrated when I think he's walking too slow and I just want to get ahead of a crowd, but I try to remind myself how lucky I am that my DH loves to go to Disney as often as we do! I've really enjoyed seeing the excitement on Henry's little face when he tries something new. I'm looking forward to reading more of your TR:)
