Marriage: The Trip Report - Update 2/28 - Final Thoughts & Link to Disneyland TR!

Again, I'm so happy that Hurricane Irene seems to have passed us all with minimal damage. And I actually found out that schools are close tomorrow, so I can get some serious work in tomorrow. :woohoo:

Love that Henry fell asleep on the way out of AK. We didn't have the greatest experience there this year, which made me sad...but it was just one of those days. :sad2: I can't wait to return there sans child so that I can take more pictures and soak in all that beautiful atmosphere.

We had a great time at DTD this past trip, which I wasn't expecting. Max also made a bee line for the Lego store...shocking, I know!

:rotfl: those boys and their Lego-dar! Seriously, I think he can smell the bricks!

I hope your next trip to AK is meltdown-less. :wizard:

Good to know the damage wasn't that bad in NYC. I am headed there September 15th to visit my friends and am really excited. My first non Disney Vacation in two years.

Hope you don't mind I added you on Facebook! Now with you being a Disney travel agent I can get first hand information!;)

You'll have to be sure to stop in the Disney Store on Times Square so you can get a little Disney taste. ;)

I don't mind a bit being friends on Facebook! I wish we TAs were given more advance notice of discounts and things-sometimes it happens, but not always. But, I try to post anything I find out about! :thumbsup2

I saw your pictures on facebook. Glad you guys weren't affected by it too much. :)

Thank you! It was a relief! It could have been a real mess.

I've been keeping up with you guys via Facebook and am happy that you received no major damage. Hopefully, the landlord can get the leaks fixed quickly.

Thank you Lisa! :goodvibes

Brook, we saw the photos on FB -- amazing. I'm so glad you and the family are well. I hope the repairs for Henry's room are done soon.

The flooding was a bit crazy, wasn't it? Thankfully it went away quickly!

I took that walk with you through your pictures a little earlier. I bet Henry thought all that water was pretty crazy! I'm glad you didn't get hit too hard. :thumbsup2

He did think it was crazy! He talked about it all day. I have memories from when I was very young of our back yard flooding and I thought it was super cool. :rotfl: I have a feeling my parents felt otherwise!

good to hear that everything is well with you and your family!

Thank you Magdalene!

I'm glad to see that you didn't have too many troubles by you!! Hopefully the ceiling wasn't too damaged!

It wasn't too bad at all, thankfully! And hopefully it doesn't leak again when we get hit with rain tonight.

Glad to hear all is well, hope that ceiling doesn't cause you too much problem!

I hope not either! We are supposed to get hit pretty good tonight, so it will be the test.

Glad to hear that Irene wasn't very bad. I love Henry's umbrella. :goodvibes Chelsea bought the cutest rain boots last month, and it hasn't rained since.

:rotfl:doesn't that just figure?! I hope she gets to show them off soon!

Glad to hear you are all safe and well. Hope the ceiling damage can be repaired.

Thank you!!

Glad to see you "weathered" the storm. I am glad they "shut down" the city so the storm could do its thing without anyone else getting in trouble.
I think the mayor thanked even the criminals for staying off the streets? :lmao:

Glad we could put this one in the history books and now we can watch the new "swirlies" in the Atlantic.

:rotfl: I am glad they shut down the City too - it's better to be safe than sorry. It could have been a real big disaster.

I've been watching those new swirlies. Katia better stay out in the water!

glad to hear there isn't tons of damage to your home!!!!:cool1:

Thank you!!!

Just read the entire report, and I love it! I wanted to sub in so I don't miss anything! Can't wait to be there, only five days from now!!!!

:welcome: You are probably at Disney now--or tomorrow! (I didn't check the date on your post) HAVE A MAGICAL TRIP!!! :yay:

Lurker here! I have read most of your TR's.

But wanted to say glad the hurricane didn't do much damage for you and your family.

I felt a little of the earthquake here in Northeast Ohio.

Thank you! And thank you for de-lurking for a minute, it's nice to "meet you"! :goodvibes Wasn't the earthquake bizarre?

Hi Brook! I'm in the process of very very slowly getting caught up on TRs around here...one down, about 80 more to go!

I loved reading about your relaxing AK day...I'm going to be back at WDW on Thursday...think I can manage to squeeze any of that relaxation into a two-day trip? Cuz I could really use some!

Oh I hear-ya! I cannot keep up lately either! I've tried and tried since I got back, but anytime I make progress something sets me back. Someday!

Oh my goodness! I didn't realize you had a 2 day trip planned!! I hope it was GREAT!

Happy Birthday Henry!!

I'm a bit late as well, but I hope Henry had a Happy Happy Birthday!!!

I'm late too but I wanted to wish Henry a Happy 4th Birthday! How was Chuck E Cheese?

Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes for Henry!!! We had a wonderful day with our at-home party! We had both Grandma's on Skype as we had cake and opened presents. We ended up not doing the Chuck E Cheese birthday party for a few reasons-but, it's okay-Henry didn't even remember he was supposed to have a party there too and he's just thrilled with what he had! I'm thinking next year we won't get away so easily....

Here are a few pictures from the day:

Soooo excited to be finally blowing out the candles! He had been asking all day long for this very moment! :cutie:

With his "big present" from Joe's Mom. He was THRILLED! We had no idea what she was getting him, and turns out this is a toy from Target that he always beelines to when we go to look at the toy aisles. It really is a very cool toy, beeping and "blasting off"!! My little Space Geek has been shooting all his guys and toy animals to the moon everyday since we got it. My Mom's gifts are still in transit-so we'll have another night of opening presents sometime this week!

Can you believe this big boy starts school on Thursday? We have him all set with some new clothes for the Fall and a cute frog backpack. I'll be sure to share a few pics of that big day too.

And between now and then I WILL BE DOING AN UPDATE!!!!!! (hopefully tomorrow!)

What a cutie! Henry is getting so grown up; I can't believe he is starting school already!

The monster truck cake looks delicious, and the shuttle play set it too cool!!! I bet Henry has lots of fun with that for a long time!

Hello!

I was just wondering how tall Henry was on this trip? I am hoping my DS3 is 40 inches with shoes on, but I was wondering how tall Henry was.

I love the red shirt he was wearing that was red in the beginning of the TR. Where did you get it?

A belated Happy Birthday for Henry and all the best wishes for his first day at school!!! :yay:

I know! It often seems like just yesterday he was that little baby learning to walk at the Wilderness Lodge. :cutie:

It's a very handy toy for when Momma has to get something done! He's totally engrossed in it.

Great job on the Monster Truck cake and what an AWESOME space shuttle thingymabob. :thumbsup2

:rotfl2: that's a good name for it "space shuttle thingymabob"!

Hello!

I was just wondering how tall Henry was on this trip? I am hoping my DS3 is 40 inches with shoes on, but I was wondering how tall Henry was.

I love the red shirt he was wearing that was red in the beginning of the TR. Where did you get it?

Henry is right around 41.5". He turned 40" right around his 3rd birthday and one trip he was just skimming the bar. In one pair of shoes he passed, in the other he didn't. We kept the "tall shoes" that he didn't like as much in the bottom of the stroller that trip. :rolleyes1

The red WDW shirt? They sell those at the World-all over the place. I'm not certain red is still an option, they have seemed to change the colors some. Joe has the same one in gray and I want to pick one up, but haven't liked the female color choices lately! I think it was less than $15 too!

Wrong link... The red I Mickey Head Mom shirt

Ooooh! LOL I just read this - obviously due to my response above.

The I Mickey Head Mom shirt was actually given to me by another DISer. She had picked it up several years ago from the Disney store at Valentine's day. I've never seen it since then! He always gets lots of compliments on it - I wish they would make them again!

A belated Happy Birthday for Henry and all the best wishes for his first day at school!!! :yay:

Thank you Magdalene!

Looks like he had a great birthday!

He did! And yesterday my Mom's presents came - Transformers. They are completely annoying - but he's thrilled. ;)

Hi there!!! That is AWFUL to hear about your back!!!! I'm so sorry to hear this--and that it's still causing you pain too. :sad2: I'm glad it's not letting you stop from going to Disney-you can always rent an ECV to help!

And so glad to hear you enjoyed NYC! Sounds like you had the reaction I had when I first visited...I instantly fell in love with the City. I still look back on those moments of my first trip here with a big smile on my face. Living here is QUITE different than visiting, but you do get to play tourist as often as you'd like-so the romance with the City can always stay fresh. :goodvibes

And let me know when you come back, we'll have to plan a DIS meet! NYC is much like Disney-you can come back again and again and always have new things to do. I think I learn one or two new things to do here every week!

It was love at first sight! That is my city, I would love to live there!

I gotta tell you.. I am sure all of us have smelled something at home and thought of someplace at WDW.. I had to share about New York reminders:
Anytime any of us smells trash or tar around here we say "Ahhh smells like New York!" New York helped me fall in love with the smell of garbage! That is true love! I will definately let you know when we get back there!

Hi Brooke - I have been lurking and not doing much posting - but wanted to say
Happy Birthday to Henry!!!!
:bday: party:

Glad Henry had a Happy B-day! That cake was too cute. My 3 yo would love that cake.

Ugh about the Transformers. I hate them too. My kids are too small to do them on their own and I have to constantly try to figure them out. I usually just hand them back and say "I'm not a boy! I don't know how to do this!" lol!!! The do make easier ones for younger kids but of course they don't like those. Not enough bells and whistles I guess :confused3 Our only big kid Transformers are hand me downs, I won't be buying anymore that's for sure :rotfl:

Approximately 1.5 years ago I had left you after a wonderful day of Animal Kingdom fun and a delicious WPE meal for dinner.

Let's move on shall we?

Today was a planning "Nothing Day". Meaning we had no plans. These are Joe's favorites...and I like 'em too....but I always like to have a "plan" even on those Nothing Days!

As I fell asleep the previous night I thought it would be a nice, leisurely, beautiful way to start the day if we had breakfast on the Boardwalk. There were little tables out by the water - it would be such a great way to start the day! So at 8 AM-ish when Henry woke us all up we threw on hats and wind pants and headed down to the Boardwalk Bakery. The line was out the door, but it was moving quickly so we were not deterred.

While in line we realized we had forgotten our refillable mugs. So Joe went back to the room while Henry and I waited in line.

Henry saw the sugar-bombed cereal in it's cute little child-attractive packaging and insisted on having it. So, instead I called Joe on the phone and asked him to bring our cereal (a healthier choice!) from the room and I would try to convince Henry to eat that and a ham, egg and cheese sandwich from the bakery.

"No. Cereal."

:headache:

Okay. Whatever. This is not a battle I'm going to fight right now while crammed into this tiny little bakery with 854 other people!

I order Joe a ham, egg and cheese sandwich, some yogurt, milk for Henry and....a plain bagel for me.

They pre-make all their sandwiches, so I could not get one without cheese. AND they cannot toast the bagels.

Seriously?!

Ugh.

Okay, fine. Whatever. I am determined to have a nice leisurely breakfast!

Joe makes it back with the mugs, we order, we pay, grab sugars, butters, etc and are finally out the door and grab a table.

1211825417_wqsGq-L.jpg

And yes, Henry insisted on having the Frosted Flakes. The kid has never eaten these before in his life. I knew he wasn't going to want it. It's the Tiger! I swear it! Darn those marketing people! ;)

We sit down and the instant Henry sees Joe's egg, ham and cheese sandwich...

1211824978_BzvxV-L.jpg

he wants it.

OF COURSE HE DOES!

:headache::headache::headache:

Joe shares. Life is good...for a minute.

1211825847_THHvQ-L.jpg

Despite being a stinker that morning, he is lookin' pretty cute!

Good Morning my beautiful Boardwalk!

1211827456_qrANp-L.jpg

Stay away from our food bird!

1211827903_Rxweu-L.jpg

Seriously? Go away!

The wind blows.

Napkins fly e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e!

The bird is begging for food.

I forgot a spoon for the yogurt. Joe goes to get one.

When he returns he realizes he doesn't have enough sugar for his coffee. So back again.

The spoon falls to the ground. Back again.

Henry is whining.

What a nice, leisurely, beautiful way to start the day.

NOT!

:rotfl2:

BUT! It did get better eventually. And the coffee, for some crazy reason, wasn't too shabby! I think it helps when someone else makes the coffee. ;)

Joe went back in and got a cheese danish and some more coffee right before we left. This greatly improved my mood. It's amazing what coffee and a cheese danish can do.

On our slow retreat to the room a maintenance worker stopped his golf cart, got off and gave Henry a small Mickey Mouse figure. He was ELATED with this thing and it went everywhere with us for the rest of the trip. (foreshadowing....dum, dum, dummmmm!)

:rotfl2: That's hilarious!!!! And yes, that smell is fairly common in the summer months! During the winter it's not quite as prevalent. I do live behind a bakery though and very often the chocolate chip cookie smell wafts down my street - it reminds me of Main Street! :goodvibes

Hi Brooke - I have been lurking and not doing much posting - but wanted to say
Happy Birthday to Henry!!!!
:bday: party:

Thank you!!! He had a great day!!!

Wishing Henry a Fabulous First Day of School!

Thank you! He LOVED it! He was so excited to go back today - and this time for longer!

Loving the monster truck birthday cake and wishing that Henry has a great first day at school! :wizard:

Thank you! He did! I'll share some pics here in just a bit.

Glad Henry had a Happy B-day! That cake was too cute. My 3 yo would love that cake.

:lmao: That is what I tell Henry too! I tell him "Mommy is no good at this stuff, it's a boy thing!" He doesn't quite understand that - he still thinks I can do ANYTHING. Which is sweet. :cutie: And yes, Henry doesn't like the simpler ones as much either. He has a couple of those and much prefers the big crazy one. And no joke...Joe has been timing himself to see how quickly he can transform the thing. He's down to 12 minutes. :rotfl2:

Yikes. What a way to start the day. I'm glad your cheese danish made things better. Your pictures are making me miss the Boardwalk so very much! Sigh. I need to get back there on my next trip.

Wow, that Boardwalk looks deserted! Guess they are all in the Bakery:lmao:
Your breakfast sounds like many of our meals...except double the chaos with 6 of us! I am more than a bit nervous about that little Mickey:headache: cant wait to read more:thumbsup2
