Marriage proposals while on a Disney cruise

Hi everyone:

What can you tell me about marriage proposals during a Disney cruise? The itinerary is going to be the 8-night NYC/Bahamas cruise, including Castaway Cay, of course! There will be 4 sea days, as well, so plenty of opportunities.

Have you been proposed to while on a Disney cruise? Where was the actual spot? Was it a good spot? Memorable?? How about on formal night? Or on the beach at CC?? During dinner at Palo??

Someone I know is going on a DCL and will possibly be proposing to his GF. He's in the beginning planning stages of it right now, deciding on a ring, etc. I know that he would like to make it special, but not over the top. In other words, I don't think he wants to involve the Dumbotron or anything. But it doesn't have to be totally secluded either.

Any ideas? I think it'd be great fun to plan and then carry out a proposal during a Disney cruise, *especially* since his DGF is a very, very, big Disney fan.

Thanks for any experiences or ideas!

P.S. Their cruise is a year away, so he has plenty of time to gather ideas and come up with a plan! LOL

Do you want to get engaged at the beginning of the cruise so you can celebrate all week?

If so, when they announce your name when you walk on the ship, why don't you tell them "XXX, I love you? WILL YOU MARRY ME?"

They will announce:
Announcing, XXX I love you, will you Marry Me Family

Well, I'll give you a funny story. We were seated at dinner with a couple in their late 20s who told us that they had been together for 7 years. When the guy left the room, my teen DD asked the woman if she wanted to marry him--she said yes, but he hadn't asked her.

The guy came back to the table and DD told him about the "great" jewelry shopping in the islands...her mom had gotten her a necklace, but they had nice engagement rings, etc. The next night, they ate in Palo.

The following night, they reappeared at our table, and her finger had gained a lot of weight and was sparkling. The guy was so funny. He was dying the whole time DD was talking about rings, given that he had one in his pocket at that time. It turned out that he planned to ask her earlier in the trip, but something had happened--port canceled or whatever--so Palo night was his second choice. He did the champagne trick--have the waiter put the ring in the glass of champagne, she drank it and found the ring.

She definitely will not say "no". It was her suggestion that they get engaged during the cruise. LOL He said that he kind of shrugged it off, and he's not going to let her know that he's seriously considering it because he'd like to surprise her as much as possible.

It's my DS, by the way, and yes I'm incognito. She is not a member here, but DS is, and she knows about this site and will probably be reading this board prior to the cruise, and she knows my regular user name.

His DGF is lovely, and if it works out for them, I'd love to have her as my DIL. By the time of the cruise they will have been dating for about 3 1/2 years. Last night DS was talking to me about this (proposing on the cruise next year), so I thought to come here to try and get ideas for him. Of course, he might want to come up with something unique on his own, but I know that he's open to suggestions, too.

I think that proposing in the beginning of the cruise is an excellent idea, so that will make their vacation that much more special.

How funny about not wanting to use the Dumbotron - my DB just got engaged on the Wonder last Sunday and I am pretty sure it involved the Dumbotron - or Arielvision. I am sure he will be by in a week or two when they get back and can give you some advice as to planning things.

My husband proposed to me over IRC , so I can't speak from experience, but if the girl loves him, I don't think it will matter much where or how he proposes!

If he's looking for a cute way to do it, you might have him put on the announcement card as you board, "Announcing the Mr. and Mrs. <lastname> family, if <DGF's name> says "Yes!"

We were just on the Magic in March, and were standing in line the first formal night to have our pic taken in the main lobby in front of the Captain Mickey sculpture, and there was a couple behind us, mid to late 20's or so. We got our pic taken and stepped to the side to put my KTTW card back in my pruse and they stepped up to the sculpture to pose. The guy (who was in his dress military outfit), gets down on one knee and takes out the ring box and opens it. The girl starts crying and saying "YES", and the whole time the photographer is taking pic after pic of the sequence of events. Everyone was clapping and cheering and most of the women, including myself, were tearing up. It was a great moment!!

We were in line to meet Mickey and Minnie one night on our last cruise and the gentleman meeting the characters with his GF proposed! Minnie was jumping up and down with excitement and the photographer had recorded it all for them in pics - it was a very sweet moment.

My now husband proposed to me on the wonder 2years ago this December. Spectacles kinda freak me out, so he proposed on our verandah between our palo dinner and the show on the first night! It was lovely and I ran around showing comets strangers my sparkly all the rest of the cruise!!

I love the idea of having the photographer documenting the whole thing. The pics would be something to show their grand children. 8^)

Lotsa people cebrate special occasions on board. He could have the waiter bring them a small celebration cake with a candle in it to blow out, and have the ring at the base of the candle.

I was told that DCL is unable to put a candle in any type of celebratory cake b/c of the risk of an onboard fire. So, that idea is out.

My brother did that, and his gf (now wife of 18+ years) HATES champagne. In fact, she hates wine of any kind. So when my DB was trying to get her to drink her champagne, she was getting a little irritated, but since he insisted, she took a teeny, tiny sip. The ring didn't move. So, he asks her to take a bigger drink, and she's starting to get a little MORE irritated at him at this point, so he finally just took the ring out of the glass with his fingers, and got down on one knee. NOT exactly the proposal he was hoping for! LOL! But, she (obviously) said yes, and they're still happily married, so I guess that's what counts in the end!

My fiance proposed last May on the Wonder. I had read about secret deck 7 on DIS and was excited to check it out, we walked down there but it was just past the time that it was closed. I was peaking outside when a CM officer walked by. Alex secretly showed him the ring box and he opened the door for us to go out. He proposed there just as the sun was setting. We tried to find the CM later in our cruise to thank him but never got the chance.

Secret deck 7 is a great spot because they would likely be alone and have a more intimate moment, just check the times on the door.

My fiance had planned to do it during the fireworks but it was very noisy, crowded and not so romantic.

Last time I looked deck 7 is open from 7 am - 7 pm, though it may change with the the time of year. I dont think they want anyone out there after dark for safety reasons.

When I got engaged to my now wife on the Wonder I ordered the romance package(Bottle of champagne 2 bathrobes and 1 or 2 other things) shoreside before we left. I slipped away at lunch and talked to the head of mousekeeping on the ship and arranged to have it delivered at turndown service. My wife went out on the balcony, and I slipped the ring out of my carry on, and laid it on the towel oragami figures feet, next to the chocolate mints. The mints just happned to be her favorite character. I went outside and asked if she noticed who was on the mints, and she brought the ring back with her, and I put it on her finger, and a little over a year later we were married on the Wonders twin the Magic, at sunset on deck 7.
