May explain why those counties mentioned upthread are said to be waiting for word from their AG as to what to do.

Folks dancing on the head of a pin, trying to find ways to avoid following the law. Eventually (and I don't think it will be long) the game will be up. They will have to issue those licenses.

I think it's hilarious when people say, "I'm moving to Canada!" Gay marriage is legal there. It is illegal in Afghanistan, though. Maybe they can emigrate there.

It's such a good day. I know how much this means to some dear friends of mine, so to think of the thousands and thousands of people celebrating today makes me smile from ear to ear. Have to admit, I'm kind of shocked to read most of these responses. Shocked, but very pleased. Unfortunately, I live in a state that has decided to dig in their heels, and not issue licenses, but I'm hoping they will come around soon.

A mandate has to issue from the Court. This isn't instantaneous, but should happen in the next few days/weeks. After that, states must implement it, whether they want to or not. There may be some delay to implement (changing forms, for example, which today may refer to "bride and groom" to something like "first person" and "second person."

Wait...what? That does not compute. SCOTUS does not do "rehearings". And even if they did, does anyone really expect them to come back from their vacations to do so?

Was today the last session for the Supreme Court this season? I thought they went thru June 30, and didn't expect a ruling until Monday or Tuesday. But the earlier the better.

Wait, you forgot that this will also lead to people marrying their dogs or legalizing their true love for their car, lol. And to be totally clear, that was said tongue in cheek! I'm sure my facebook newsfeed will be full of these kinds of dire predictions from my husband's extended family.

Just read the comments on practically any internet article about the ruling. Those kinds of comments are all over the place, just like I knew they would be.

Well maybe the states were given a window to actually start issuing licenses by and some are trying to wait until the end of it to see if something changes but gave the media another excuse.

I would think from a funding standpoint they would have to start issuing it or else face a huge mess.

I don't understand-aren't they now legally obligated to allow it? I"m curious to know what is not prepared in the system for Hays County?

Having spent 14 years living in the armpit that is Hays County, my guess is the boxes on some form or in their computer system say 'male name' and 'female name'.
