Marrakesh and Ginger Allergy?

I'm new here but have a quandry. We have ADR for Marrakesh but, in checking on the contents of authentic Morrocan food, I noticed that they seem to use a lot of ginger. Ginger, in very small amounts - basically small enough that you can't taste it - doesn't effect me. However, fresh ginger or a strong ginger flavor often results in extreme illness. (It's not life-threatening and I actually love the flavor of ginger, but is definitely the end of an evening for me.)

Now, I've seen a few posts that seem to indicate that Marrakesh isn't that authentic. I've also not seen any posts indicating a strong flavor of ginger. Likewise, the menus don't seem to indicate that ginger is a main ingredient.

For those of you that have been there, did you notice a flavor of ginger?

(Most likely I'll still follow up with the restaurant to make sure, but was curious if ginger is even being used in their recipes.)

Thanks for any help you all might offer.

We just ate there in Aug. I personally do not like the taste of ginger, and between the appetizer, soup, and lamb I had for the main course, I do not remember being overwhelmed (or even noticing) the taste of ginger. I'm sure you could request no ginger to your CM. Good luck !! :thumbsup2

WOW that is one unusual allergy and how do you even dine since ginger is used in more things than you can image even if you don't taste it and not just at Marrakesh. IIRC allergies to spices are fairly rare ... have you ever and what would you do if you had an allergy to NaCl :rotfl2:

BTW what are your symptoms to the ginger allergy ... I'm interested since there is almost nothing on Google about this allergy.

Thanks,

Larry

Larry, I'd love to send you a PM to detail this out but apparently I haven't yet met my minimum posts. ;)

So, to put it delicately, it's completely intestinal. It doesn't cause any breathing issues. My ex-husband was lactose intolerant and that's probably the best comparison I can make to it. My worst reaction to it landed me in the hospital with dehydration. It should be noted, however, that it's only large amounts of fresh ginger that seem to result in these effects (ie ginger sauces, desserts or dressings are major culprits).

Maybe classifying it as an allergy is incorrect. Maybe it's just more of an intolerance. Strangely enough, it only seems to show up when I have fresh ginger in large quantities and only occurs when I ingest said ginger. I can breathe it, be around it, etc. but eating it could potentially put all the parkgoers at horrible risk. I'd rather not have it than risk having a HazMat team called because of it. :lmao:

I'm not one for doctors so I've actually never had it formally diagnosed. I do, however, have a sensitive stomach at times so I've learned to chart what it is I eat and test to see what the outcomes are. (I'm also a researcher so experiments involving me are always great fun.) Ginger, in large quantities, is definitely a big no-no for me though.

Edit note: Actually, I'm thankful I don't have a table salt allergy. I love my salt and it loves me! I also love the fact that I have low blood pressure and have been told, by doctors, to eat salt. Salt is gooooddd!

I would avoid the Japan pavillion's restaurants. It is FULL of ginger.
I'll be sure to eat your share to make up for it :)

Yep, that one I do know. I love Japanese Steakhouses too but never get to eat there any longer. (Teppanyaki grills where were I first discovered this problem.)

Ah, well, enjoy them!
