Marker Removal

This is way OT but I'm hoping someone here can help. I watched my DGchildren last night and noticed there was black marker on my DS and DD-in-law's sofa. It was already on there when I arrived so it didn't happen under my watch. :) Does anyone know of anything that could take that out? I think (and hope) that it's not permanent marker.

we had permant marker on various locations in the house. Thanks to my 20 mo old. Rubbing alcohol does wonders. Or just hot water on clean white cloth.

Is it a fabric sofa? I'd start with water on a cloth in case it is washable marker. If it is permanent marker, hairspray removes permanent marker from fabric. Just spray hairspray on the spot or on a q-tip and rub the stain. As a PP said, rubbing alcohol should do the trick as well.

My initial sarcastic thought was scissors! I knew that rubbing alcohol would work to remove permanent marker from a dry erase board but did not know it would work on fabric.

Target sells something called Kids & Pets stain remover that works on just about anything. It comes in a squirt top bottle and READ the directions - You reay do need to use white towels to blot it up. My other favorite (with no directions for intended use-kids) is Cowboy Magic Green Spot Remover- I've used it on endless things with no downside yet. ou can find it online for horse care products. Good luck!

This won't help you with a sofa, but here is something i learned and thought I'd share. We bought a new oak kitchen table, and DD2 sat down at it the first night with a Sharpie. We realized she was being too quiet, and when we looked over at her (we were trying to rearrange the rest of the kitchen to accommodate the new table) she had scribbled all over the brand new table...literally like 3 hours old! But, much to my amazement, Mr. Clean Magic Eraser took it right off with no damage to the table! I was so surprised! On that same table just a few months ago, I dripped paint from a paint pen on the table, and the Magic Eraser got it off as well!

I know that won't help with fabric, but thought it might help someone else with marker troubles!

AMODEX!!!

You can buy it at The Container Store or Office Max. It is the ONLY thing that Sharpie themselves recommend to remove ink from nearly any/every surface.

Amodex recommends that you do NOT treat with anything else first, as that may inhibit it from working. HTH!

Is it fabric or leather? I've successfully removed ink from a leather ottoman with rubbing alcohol. It also removed some of the finish, but I touched it up with neutral shoe polish and it looks great.

I was going to say flip the cushion! Good luck, and let us know if anything anyone suggested works!!

The best thing that I use and I use it on fabric as well is the MAGIC ERASER!!!

I've gotten "HI" in pen out of my suede sofa. I've taken black scripto permanent marker off my walls. I've gotten crayon off my closet doors.

I swear by it. We buy it in bricks at BJs. I think I have one in my purse for those just in case moments.

DITTO! I gotten sharpie out of more things imaginable with the Magic Eraser, including DD legs! Wonders for walls and couches.

K, I am also a HUGE fan of the Magic Eraser . . . but, PLEASE use extreme caution as it IS an abrasive and can cause friction burns on skin (not "chemical" burns as the urban myth emails claim, but it can essentially scour skin off). It 'removes' marks by micro-sanding surfaces - thus any ink it removed from skin is because it removed the skin itself.
