I very nearly was not going to do a trip report this year as I think it may just be a tad too boring for everybody and I was ill. However we did our first cruise this year and as the nights are drawing in and I feel I need to remember how warm and fuzzy it was on our holiday I thought what the hell.
This year it is just the three of us:-
me - Susan - 43 - can never get enough of Disney
DH - Mark 39 - has had enough of Disney
DD - Kirsty - 13 - only considers a trip to Disney a holiday
This is our 8th trip to WDW (Kirsty's 7th) and we have decided to take it easy - so easy some days do not include parks (shock and horror). We have never been in August before as have always taken Kirsty out of school. However with the new threat of fines we book a trip in August (never again!)
We are DVC members and we are staying the first 6 nights at Saratoga Springs doing the 3 night Disney Wonder Cruise (with our DVC points) and going back to Saratoga for the remaining 5 nights. We decide to stay on at Saratoga because of the walks to DTD, Crossroad and beyond. However due to the August heat some of these plans are put aside.
My story starts a week before we go away when I get stricken with flu. Not normal flu but the sort you get once every 10 years where you cannot get out of bed and are exhaused just getting up to go to the toilet. I bravely go into work as I work for the local council and no one is there during the school holidays and feel the whole western world will collapse if I don't turn up! I fall to pieces at work and am made to go home only to appear the next day as I truly can't believe that I can be ill so long. Long story short I am still feeling very ill on our trip to Gatwick on Thursday 16th August and have not had a (alcoholic) drink in a week which is unheard of for me. Our flight is tomorrow and am hoping to feel better with a night at the Hilton. I now have the most awful cough to go with my cronic tiredness. Fun isn't it!!
Our journey from North London seems to take forever but we arrive at about 4 and do the twilight check in.
We check out our room
Its not bad but I still feel so tired and can't believe that I still don't feel like a drink!
We have loads of time to kill and go off to the airport. Mark goes to the arcade and me and Kirsty hit the internet. I do a quick bit of dissing before checking out the shops.
About 2 hours later we are ready for something to eat and as it is tradition we go to Frankie and Bennies for our Calazone. Our service is terrible and our waitress forgets Kirsty's cheesecake and decide to get a krispy creme donut to take back to our room. We are too late and go back to the room with choclates from W H Smiths instead. We watch a bit of TV
Mark and Kirsty fall asleep to my rythmatic coughing. I feel that I lie awake coughing for hours but maybe it was not so long!
Good start eh
