Saturday 18th August
Today was a bit of a disaster really. We checked out of our room early at just gone 9.00 as we had been up half the night due to jet lag and my coughing.
We were too early to get our new room so decided to go shopping as we did not want to get too hot and sweaty at a park with no room to go back to.
Not sure if it is the after effects of flue or because it is August but I find the whole trip far too hot and I am so tired all the time.
There are a number of must have items that I need this year as we will not be back for some time.
1) A few pairs of Disney costume earings for me
2) Saratoga Springs back pack for me
3) Disney Crocs for me
4) Black Hoodie for me
5) Back pack (school bag) for Kirsty
6) Sat Nav with USA and Europe for Mark
We set off to find Walmart as we have never been to one before. 8 trips and never been to Walmart I hear you scream! We eventually find one after driving about for a couple of hours. No Tom Tom 910 but enjoy the shops and buy bubble bath for the whirl pool and cough medicine which comes with a special recommendation from the pharmisist.
We also find the LBV factory outlets which we have never been to before.
We find a Dennys near to Downtown Disney and have a nice lunch.
We go back to the resort to see if our room is ready. No not ready.
We walk to Down Town Disney and manage to get a couple of items on my list. Kirsty's back pack
and black and red Disney Crocs for me.
We also buy chocolates from Ghiradelli, some for ourselves to last our trip and some as a present for my mum and dad. It came in a cooler bag but this was a bad move as it is a hot day and we have no room yet and we are transferring a couple of times to go on the cruise. Those poor chocolates!
We sit by the lake. Mark & Kirsty have frozen ice creams and I have a pina colada, which makes me even thirstier.
I can't remember being so thirsty and really just want my vodka and diet coke with loads of ice on my Saratoga Springs balcony.
Back to the resort. rooms still not ready. They give us a phone number to try later on. We go and sit by the pool but I am far too hot and very tired. All afternoon we keep trying to see if our room is ready as I need to lie down as I am not feeling at all well. 4.00 comes and goes and still no room ready. 5.00 and our room is still not ready. Finally at 5.45 we are told we can go to our room.
We open the door and the place is a complete mess.
The beds are not made, the sofa bed is still open and there is rubbish in the bins, towels on the floor etc.
I phone front desk and no one seems to believe me. They send someone who knocks and the door and asks me if every this is ok now. I say no and she says surely it is ok. She wants to walk away but I make her see the room. She then says she will send someone. The phone rings and the manager asks if we want to change room. Yesterday I was told there was only one room available and was surprised there is now another one. However the view is amazing and we are five minutes walk to down town disney so I tell him to send the chamber maids up and I will wait on the balcony while they clean the rooms.. He apologises a lot. I assume he waived the $25 room change fee as it did not appear on our bill.
The views are worth all the hassle
Mark goes off to Goodings to get some more beers while me and Kirsty wait on the balcony. It is really embarasing as the previous occupants not only did not put their sofa bed back but did not leave a tip and I think they must think that I took it. There are three maids and I feel awful and give them $20 tip.
Mark comes back with some lovely Kahula based cocktail drinks but it is now too late to go out for a meal and I am exhausted so we order a pizza from room service (they did not have this last year). The pizza comes in the mickey and friends box. Mark has taped several films on his Arcos and the first series of prison break (I did say it would be relaxing!) However after the pizza and a couple of drinks and unpacking we are too tired to watch a film.
Originally this was the night I had an ADR booked for Victoria and Alberts (they only had weekends in August I was told and we are on the cruise next weekend) and cancelled it after I had second thoughts about leaving Kirsty on her own (even though she is nearly 14 the McCann case just left me feeling too nervous.) Now I was pleased that we cancelled as we would have been far too tired and perhaps not enough time to get ready.
Looking forward to our first theme park of the trip tomorrow.
