Mariska is getting a wish! So mind blowing, my little girl cant be that big yet? but she is, And We're so excited.

Her wish granters from Make-A-Wish came over yesterday and Mariska wished for the princesses to give her a princess make over, and for a peanut Butter bird. What a ham.

Let me tell you a little more about her, Since thats the reason I'm here!

Mariska was born November 2007 with a severe heart defect, HLHS Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. We didnt know until she was a few days old and started to fight for her Life. She was taken by air to a childrens Hospital where they told us she had HLHS and that she would need 3 open heart surgeries to do a repair *or re route her heart* With out corrective surgery performed soon.. she would die. The first surgery is known as the Norwood (less then a week old), The Glenn (4 months old) and the Fontan (2-5 years old) The surgeries wouldnt fix her heart, but would allow her to have a better quality of life with each one, until her Heart couldnt handle the work load and would need to be replaced with a transplant.

Mariska Had some huge bumps with the norwood, but in her own time and close to a month in the ICU she over came them and was able to come home. She then had her Glenn around 5 months, this one went so smoothly and she was home in less then a week. Then came the Fontan, we did her pre-op work and found she was in heart fauliure and was no longer safe for this last repair. Our world was turned up side down in the spring of 2010. Mariska was listed for a heart at the bottom of the status in June. Being at the bottom means you are less likely to get a heart. Mariska was very blessed and was given the gift of life just over a month on the list! Talk about a miracle.

Her Transplant we always thought would bring an end to fears and worries, and life would finally at last be easy! Mariska's what should have been 2 weeks turned soon into 2 months. She went into rejection just before she could come home. After countless pokes and tests and small surgeries Mariska got to come home. Keeping the germs away for the next 9 months was hard. Not to let this little shopaholic do her thing was so sad. The spring of 2011 she could finally do things out side of home. Her amount of new found energy was amazing!! Gone was my baby who would cuddle and watch cartoons, and in her place was a pink spunky full of life little girl.

She rejected again on her heart anniverary July 18th. spending only a week in the hospital with her very pregnant mother. Just before her baby sister was born she was allowed to enjoy life onces again. Her love for life and for her sister always warms my heart.

She's such a strong brave little girl who even when things get hard she still has a smile and a positive additude.

We cant wait to plan her trip to Disney World and make her trip the best magical experience her could ever imagine! I cant wait to hear her endless giggles when she meets all her favorite tv friends and learns they are real!

I have been to WDW once as a young child and Sam has never done anything disney! We dont have dates yet but are hoping April 18-25. We will have one 6 months old and a 4 year old. Any advice you have please share! I'm not sure where to start, baby steps right? We've read all about GKTW and are super excited at the idea of staying there!! We are trying to decide on which places we should plan to see, mariska wants to pet dolphins and of course wants the makeover.

We should hear back in the next week or so the exact dates and other fun info. We cant wait!!

Thanks for reading my novel!:)

Now a little about the family. Sam and I married young and started planning for a family early Almost 7 years ago, time sure goes fast!. We lost our first pregnancy, then finally were blessed with Mariska a year later. She has brought such a ray of emotions to our lives and filled every day with happeniess, and lets be honest stress. hehee.

After a few years we felt it was time for another little one. This one took no time at all, After trying for a good year for Mariska. Kamiah is 4 months old, She is the sweetest little baby. I think all babies should be content and full of smiles like her! such a layed back personality. A huge change for Mariska and all her meds that just make days hard sometimes. Having a healthy baby left us not sure what to do with her, ha Mariska LOVES being a big sister and is such a little helper.

Have a few questions, I'm sure if I keep digging I'll find what I'm looking for, What parks are the most fun for young kids? I'm worried about finding enough places to be able to sit and just take a break and feed the baby.

So excited to start planning this trip!

Welcome! The girls are beautiful!

You'll find lots of information here.

There are Baby Care centers in all of the parks, where you can feed her. And at the Magic Kingdom there is a Make A Wish lounge you can use and at Epcot there are VIA lounges you can also use, but those are only opened M-F according to the village guide.

I think for my kids, MK & DHS will be the biggest hits of the Disney Parks, but I could be wrong. We've taken them to the MK once for 1 day, my DD (wish kid) still talks about it. She had a princess make-over too and it was great. DS was only 2, so he doesn't remember.

DD also wants to go to Sea World really bad, we're skipping Universal, not much for the little ones, but we are going to Islands of Adventure, Seuss Landing looks like they'll really love it, plus we want to go the the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. And DS is into Super Heros right now.

Joining in and looking forward to following along. What a cute family and beautiful! girls.

I really hope she gets to do the BibbidiBobbidiBoutique make over. My daughter Hannah, she was 7 when we went in September, absolutely loved it! I think I had just as much fun watching her! We did the BBB at the Castle, it really was a cool experience.

G'luck planning. I hear GKTW is AMAZING! April will be here before you know it! :woohoo:

Followed you over from my PTR. :goodvibes

I'm SO excited for you and your family. Mariska is going to have such a wonderful time. Be sure to take LOTS of pics to share with us !

I think MK will be her favorite park and I agree there is also a lot of fun stuff over at DHS for little ones.

You have a beautiful family and Mariska is such a little fighter, how wonderful that she gets to fulfill her wish !

:welcome: from a fellow heart family and a past wish tripper! So excited for Mariska that she is getting to make a wish. Sounds like she has had a rough road, but what a beautiful, strong girl she is. It will be the trip of a lifetime. Two years ago, right about this time, we met with our wish granters and got our dates. We went in mid-May, so I think you are picking a fabulous time to go...after Easter, before the summer crowds. We did BBB and my son did the Pirate makeover thing...it was truly a magical day at the MK for my little wish princess. My kids do love DHS and MK the best, so I bet you are right with that guess! Anyway, can't wait to follow along with your planning. :goodvibes

I loved reading your story. What a strong family and a strong little girl!!!! Beautiful pics. My husband and I were married and started our family young too. Glad I:cheer2: can read along. Excited for you all!!!

Dear Melynda,

I am so happy you signed our TR so that I could "find" your beautiful family. Your daughters are gorgeous and you are going to have the time of your lives. There are lots of places to just sit and relax and absorb the parks with a baby. We took our very first trip when our oldest daughter was only three months old and it was simply wonderful...I can only imagine how much better it will be as a wish trip! Thank you for sharing YOUR miracle with us all! :flower3: Which Hospital does your daughter have her surgeries at, if you don't mind my asking...being nosy, wondered if you lived near us. :goodvibes I look forward to seeing more beautiful pics of your adorable family!

I'm back! Boy its been a week! We bought a house and moved. Wohooo!! we're so excited to have a yard and grass. The apartment life has been good... but this is awesome! Then my birthday and V-day :lovestruc and everyone getting sick at the same time. Phew what a week.

My goal this week is to get on the ball and reply back to your posts.

I talked to Mariska's awesome Transplant team they sent the signed papers back to MAW saying she could go! now we just need to wait until we hear back from our wish granter.

Mariska' has a coin jar we told her we could do disneyland a year ago when she got it filled but now with her wish we're doing disney world, But she still has to reach her goal. Shes past the half way marker and I think I better start using cash to get it to the top quicker! :goodvibes

www.Mariskaanderson.blogspot.com is her blog if any of you want to read more about her story.
