I know there's a plan that you can purchase at the marina that's for the length of your stay but I can't remember which boats are included and how much it is. I tried to do a search and it won't work, says it's been disabled. Can anyone help me? Also, what's the youngest age a child can passenger? My DS will be 1 1/2 when we go and I don't know if we can take him as a passenger on the water mice. I know I can take him on the pontoon boats, but not sure about the water mice. Thanks for your help in advance.

Did Boat and Bike Plan last week

This was the name of a thread about boat rentals. It doesn't say how old kids have to be to ride with parents. It currently costs !199 for 4 people. Hope this is helpful.

Where were you staying that you did the boat and bike plan? I really want to do it but understood it was limited to VWL.

Thanks for any help.

Lizziemom posted a thread entitled "Did Boat and Bike Plan last week"

Here is what I know but others who have done this will let you know for certain:

Boats are available at WL, Poly, CBR, YC and DTD. I have heard that sevene Seas Lagoon is the best place since it is the biggest body of water.

The plan includes unlimited use of watermice, pontoon boats, and bikes. Surrey bikes are NOT included. Young children, not on the plan, MAY ride along in watermice and pontoon boats, but they can not have their own watermouse or their own bike.

Hope this is helpful.

I know this has probably been asked and answered before, but how old must the driver be? We are taking my 12 year old nephew in October and he is dying to drive one by himself.

12 for mouseboats & 18 for pontoons - at least that's what another DISmember told me.

"Young children, not on the plan, MAY ride along in watermice and pontoon boats, but they can not have their own watermouse or their own bike."

Does this mean that you don't have to include young children on your plan? (In other words, if you have 5 people but one is 2, do you not have to include the two year old?) And can you add a fifth person?

We did not purchase the plan, but did rent water mice. I took my 2 year old with no problem. They have plenty of small life jackets behind the counter. It it my impression that on the plan only the drivers have to be listed. So children that are just riding do not have to be listed, and would not count toward your total number allowed on the plan. I remember the age being 12 to drive the water mice, but it seems there was also a height req. to go along with it. Hopefully, someone will correct me if I'm wrong about that. Erin

This is one of those things we cannot find documented anywhere, thus we are hoping someone tried it and can tell us.
DW and I are going to BWV for 5 days(1 br), then switching to BCV for 6 days (2 br) when grandma and two nephews come to visit. If we get the Marina plan at the Yacht Club does it cover all 11 days even though we switch resorts? I heard rumor that it is for only 7 days, if so, can we split between resorts - the last 3 days at BWV and then carry it forward to BCV?
There will be three adults and a 12 year old, so can we take out 4 water mice at a time?
Finally, what it is like in late October? Too cold for the water mice?

Thanks in advance for your input.

I finally found something on the WDW website about this, it says:

"A child must be at least 12 years old and at least 5 feet tall to drive a WaterMouse™ alone. There is a maximum combined weight of 320 lbs permitted for a WaterMouse™, or 2 passengers. All drivers under the age of 18 MUST have a parent or legal guardian sign a release."

I've just bumped up a thread that mentions that the age limit is now 16. I think the age changed this spring because of an accident. I can't find the exact thread, but Granny, replied to a thread called water mice or something similar.

Good luck.

I just cut and pasted that paragraph today off of the official site and the last DVC Vacation Magic also said 12 year old. I have yet to see anything in writing or on the websites that says it is 16. If it has changed, then please update the website and the Vacation Magic piece was after supposed change also. Who edits this DVC stuff? We leave tomorrow and the kids want to do this and I can not find a definative answer to whether or not they will be able to do it again this year at age 14 like they did at age 12 in 2002.

I believe there was a news story about the age change to 16 plus a drivers license. There was some kind of accident that changed the rules for renting water sprites. The official WDW site may have not changed yet.

I also remember reading an article that said the age has been changed to 16 becuase of an accident.

I called the main number for WL and asked to be transfered to the marina. I spoke with a marina CM and yes, at WL the age is 16 with a DL to drive one of the new SeaRaycers alone. If they are 12-15, they can drive the boat with an adult along to ride.

I asked if this applied to all resorts and she said that Downtown Disney still has the old boats that were "governed" at a slower max speed and that 12 year olds could still rent those alone. So, the piece in the Vacation Magic about OKW boat rentals for 12 year olds could actually be correct.

I hope this clears up the confusion. I will be back after the 20th with a full report after we have either rented or tried to rent them.
Thanks,
Rex

Thanks, I KNEW that I saw it somewhere, and I don't often read the resorts board, I'm so happy with our DVC!

Why there is confusion is due to WDW not updating their website and the information contained in the most recent issue of DVC's Vacation Magic. That article mentioned OKW, but there are also DVC members staying at VWL and if the rules are different there, that should have been written also. Even if the discount only is valid at OKW, the new rules could have and should have been in the article. I will be at all WDW DVC resorts next week and will get the facts on this. I had sent a question to the WDWIG's Ask Anita column, but she has never replied to me alone or readers.
