Marijuana use? Legalize it?

Should marijuana be legalized?

  • 100% legal

  • Legal, but should be bought from controlled sources... drugstores, the govt....

  • legal for medicinal purposes only

  • Keep it illegal and stiffen the penalties for use

  • Keep it illegal, same penalties as now

  • Irrelevant question... people who want to use it will find a way.

Where are the facts to back this up? I hear this on the "Don't smoke pot" commercials. I've known tons of pot smokers through the years and still know a handful and I've never heard anyone say that their pot was "laced" with something. There have been many studies that found marijuana to not be physically addictive so I don't know what you mean by "you actually can".
I think that some people get emotionally addicted to the stuff, kind of like some of us with these boards. :teeth:

My dad says that they should legalize it but actually Jack Daniels is better than getting high, because getting high is inhailing into your lungs..Which is bad for you. I have never done it and never plan to

I totally agree that people can become emotionally addicted. Let's all agree - Don't smoke pot, choose DIS!

SHHH! If someone moves to outlaw the DIS, I don't know if I can handle the withdrawal :rotfl:

So Jack Daniels is better for the person consuming it because it's not inhaled?

Ever hear of Cirrhosis of the liver?

You dont get that from drinking one glass of it..Like one shot instead of joints of pot isnt going to destroy your liver..Now abusing it will though...Just an opinion..

::yes::

Sorry Lil Tink, but one is as bad as the other, although IMHO, marijuana is the lesser of the two evils.

It cracks me up that we have people telling their children that drinking Jack Daniels is okay because it's not inhaled.

What kind of message is that to give to your child? :confused3

Just because one is legal doesn't mean the other should be.

Oh and Blondie, you may be telling your kids that but I won't be. Because its not ok. My father was an alcoholic. I know exactly the damage it can do. Not to mention that I lost 3 family members in car crashes (not accidents. Crashes) and a fourth was severely scarred, both mentally and physically, from one.

If your telling your kids its ok to drink, then you really need to rethink that little idea.

Where did Blondie say she is telling her kids that? The fact is, many parents are just fine with drinking.

I consider pot to be the same as alcohol. Might as well make some tax money.
This is how I feel. And I have no problems saying that I would use it, occasionally, if it were legal.

Go back and re-read the last page. It wasn't me who said that. :confused3

I am on the side of legalization with controls....I also believe the pot that is on the streets today is stronger and possibly laced with other more addictive additives.... When I was in high school in the 70's in Fl., living just a few miles from the beach (need I say more)....pot use was everywhere, but most of it was grown in the kids backyards, rooftops or out in some vacant field....it was just pot..The highs seemed to be short lived and people would be back in control..There are different grades of pot today that will make you high with 1-2 hits for the evening. I think it is called Kron....it is a hybrid type of the plant.... My source of into comes from young people that are living it today....

Legalize it, control access (like alcohol, etc) to it , ban smoking of it in public places and then tax the crap out of it!!!

People still drink in public places. What makes you think that they won't smoke pot in public places if its legalized? At least right now, they are too afraid to do that because they could get arrested.

I take it you have never been to a rock concert? ;)

I agree with Charade, legalize it, control it with stiffer laws and tax the hell out of it.

Yeah well... right now do you see people smoking it like a cigarette when you walk down the street? No you don't.

Cops don't arrest those people because there are far too many and they outnumber the police. How the hell could even one city of police manage to arrest THOUSANDS? YOu saw what happened during the LA riot. They had to call in the national police to deal with it. Arresting that many would cause a riot.

Try not to be so blind and think logistics. Cops can and will arrest 5 or 10 people if they catch them smoking... but hundreds or thousands at once? Think about that a little.

For some people pot can be a gateway drug. I've known pot smokers that eventually want a bigger buzz or thrill, so they've turned to harder drugs. Obviously not all pot smokers get hooked on other drugs.

You posted on the other thread:

Did your husband use pot before he used heroin? Did you ever use any other
drugs after you started smoking pot?

I have seen many many people go from pot to harder drugs. It is a sad thing to watch. One was my brother and many of his friends. It happens

I am not being blind, just realistic. I see no good that comes from keeping it illegal. It has done nothing to stop people from using it. I would prefer it to at least be taxed.

As to your scenario, it is illegal to drink alcohol on the streets and a few people do. But the fact remains, because people have other options, most choose not to. I don't think it would be any different. JMHO
