For those that follow on Facebook, Universal announced the 2013 Mardi Gras lineup...I will be skipping it this year for the first time ever. Not very happy with the choices...

Ok, here is who they announced...

Demi Lovato
Pitbull
Phillip Phillips
Boys Like Girls
Lifehouse
Matchbox Twenty
Austin Mahone
Montgomery Gentry
Steve Miller Band
Pat Benetar
Sean Kingston
Trey Songz

The line up is on the website now.

I'm not very excited this year...I haven't heard of quite a few of the artists.

I will attend Pat Benetar, Steve Miller and Matchbox 20 for sure.

The others...not so much.

Hopefully they will announce the two remaining acts soon and those artists will be more my style.

Bands Currently on Top 40 Radio
Demi Lovato
Phillip Phillips
Boys Like Girls (well, were last year)
Austin Mahone (well, he will be by March I suspect)

80s "Oldies" Acts (I was born in 1971, I can call them that)
Pat Benetar
Steve Miller

"Hot" Adult Contemporary
Matchbox 20
Lifehouse

Hip-Hop/"Urban"
Pitbull
Sean Kingston
Trey Songz

Country
Montgomery Gentry

Sorry everyone, but that's about as eclectic a mix as I can imagine--all popular, but five different genres of music well represented, perhaps skewing a tad young. This isn't supposed to be Flower & Garden. I don't see how anyone could be disappointed in this.

Also known as people/band I've never heard of.

Sorry...its a nice mix like you said but I don't know who most of these people are...but that's me. It's disappointing to me but obviously you like the line up and that's fine. I won't be going to most of the shows.

I've heard of a few of them but I don't like hip/hop or country. Maybe I'll watch some YouTube and change my mind.

At least Disney tries to appeal to all age groups with their lineups. I'm in my 50's and there's not anyone here that appeals to me. Was looking forward to maybe attending for the first time but guess not. I'll be heading over to Epcot's F&G fest instead.

ok, while I may not have heard of some of these bands, which age group are they leaving out? :confused3

I think universal did a great job appealing to all of the age groups. I have a younger sister that never knows any of the artist that are the flower and garden show at EPCOT. For our family it works out perfectly. I'm the young adult, so pitbull is perfect. My mom would see pat and my younger sisternwould see demi. She had to choose between demi and Austin. Those two are in her age range. I honestly feel that universal is the only park that tries to include everyone......

Here's the lineup with dates, and the side acts:

Code:

Saturday, April 13 Pitbull The Rockin’ Jake Band
Saturday, April 20 All American Rejects Daddy Mack Blues Band

Some of those side bands are pretty good authentic New Orleans style bands too. I have no idea where they will play, in the past they have played right where the big crane is for Transformers.

Most of the bands named are geared for the teens to 30's age range. As some of you have mentioned many are greatly unknown. I guess conceivably Pat Benatar and Steve Miller could appeal to some older fans. I'm not some old fogey stuck in the 60's there are lots of modern groups I listen to although none of the ones mentioned here.I'm just saying that Florida is home to many, many retirees with annual passes that need to be represented as well. Hopefully those TBD dates will fill that void. There are still lots of bands and artists from the 60's and 70's performing.

I believe I've heard of all but one of the acts... maybe some of you are just turning into old fogies :rolleyes1:laughing:

None of them particularly excite me, although I think I'll go see Phillip Phillips, Pitbull, Pat Benetar and Steve Miller.

I think they did a pretty good job appealing to all ages.. the line-up so far spans five decades of music. I love the older, classic bands but it's the popular artists of today that are going to be bringing in the crowds.

If anyone watched women's (non-rhythmic) gymnastics, or saw an ad for it, during the Olympics this summer, they heard Philip Phillips...

I'll be in the area for Steve Miller Band...hmm, interesting.

And we'll be there for Demi Lovato and dd wants to go for sure. It's not someone she would necessarily buy a ticket to see, but she'd like to go since we'll be there and she likes her voice.
I was kind of hoping it was someone she had no interest in seeing because now I have to go too:rotfl:

I am not a big crowds kind of person, but I am even less of a "Send my 15 year old off in a big crowd in an unfamiliar place" person so I'll deal.

LOL, the Flower & Garden lineup is directed straight at Baby Boomers. Most of the artists are too old to even qualify as "classic rock" anymore. :rotfl2:

Nothing wrong with that, but to pretend Universal's line-up is not more inclusive--with artists from different genres who still actually get radio airplay--is just crazy.

I'm 41. Steve Miller was largely before my time (know all the songs, but same is true of a lot of 60s/70s artists) and Pat Benetar hit when I was in middle school. People in their 30s are going to consider these "oldies" acts--they're squarely aimed at people in their 40s and 50s.

The only one I'd call "greatly unknown" is Austin Mahone. The rest receive heavy radio airplay in their respective genres.

I would definitely agree that they SO FAR don't have the "oldies" acts, as in 70'd disco/Osmond type acts which they usually do, but there are still some open slots, so it isn't impossible they will add one or two. I would agree that this is a decent mix, enough to make me wish I live a little closer so I could talk my husband into driving the 1-1/2 hours at least every couple weeks instead of once a month or so.:lmao: We will DEFINITELY be there for Demi, my dd turns 15 the following week and loves Demi's music, and dh only listens to "classic rock" by choice, so he is looking forward to Pat Benatar and trying to talk me into Steve Miller too. I would LOVE to go over for Lifehouse, Matchbox 20, and Pitbull too. DD12 is also excited for Demi, and would agree with me on Matchbox 20 and Pitbull anyway, not sure she is as familiar with Lifehouse. The only way to make her happier would be to add a slot for the band she likes to call her future husbands, 1 Direction. :rolleyes1 There are definitely other bands we all like and would love to see added, but considering the Strawberry festival is going on at the same time and is HEAVILY geared to the country music market, and Garden at Disney tends to be geared towards "classic rock/pop" type, that this is much MORE geared to a younger/more current audience doesn't really surprise.

Nope, not going to any of these. Give me current rock bands (the oldies are fine, but some of them sound bad nowadays).

The TBD Bands were just announced,
Kool & The Gang for April, 6 and All American Rejects for April 20
