I thought we were beating the crowds by going the 9-12 of Feb. but now I see that Mardi Gras is the 8th and people are saying lots of people come from New Orleans that week. Do they come the beginning of the week or can we expect things to be busy all week?

I thought I had picked a great week now I am not so sure.

The week of Mardi Gras does see some of an influx in crowds. As the schools and such in New Orleans are closed so it makes a great week to go to WDW. The very end of your trip is also going to be right near the start of the 2 week Nascar season opener in Daytona Beach too. I don't think the week will be low season quiet. However, I don't think you'll find it mobbed either.

You wont realize it much at Disney. If you are going to Universal it will effect you more, cause they cater to the Mardi Gras atmosphere. And they have the parades and beads an tends to be a little busier.

But all in all you should have no problems

Doug

This is our typical time to go, and it's awesome. Weekends are the only days I've ever seen a little more crowded - but it's still manageable. Don't worry, it's great time to go - you'll have a blast!

I am from New Orleans and I was there last Mardi Gras. Yes a lot of families from the New Orleans area do get out of town and head to Disney for the Mardi Gras Season. ::yes::

It is crowded at Disney but it is not that bad. If you decide to go during the Mardi Gras season you will see a lot of purple, gold and green color shirts from New Orleans and of course those Mardi Gras beads.

Hey Mister throw me something!!! lol:

This will be my fourth Mardi Gras trip and we have always had a great time. Although, this will be the earliest we have gone. I like it when Mardi Gras is 1st week of March. That way I can check out Braves spring training.

New Orleans isn't the only place that has Mardi Gras.I am from the Mobile,Alabama area and it is said thats where Mardi Gras started.Don't know if thats right. But my family of 5 will be at Disney Feb.3-8 as my girls are off for mardi gras holidays.Plan on having my Mardi Gras attire on. :cool1:

It didn't affect things much last year. They usually have a Mardi Gras celebration at PI... but I believe it is Universal who really has the big Mardi Gras celebration.

The Unofficial Guide shows that crowds won't be impacted at all by Mardi Gras. So that's what I'm choosing to believe. :teeth: (I hope!! :wizard: )

We have gone in end of June and not thought it was all that bad. We also had no problem during Mother's day last year, so it may be our mindset. We just fast pass and go to the rides with short wait times. We have never waited more than 20 minutes in a line, and that was Test Track!

Not only is Daytona starting the weekend after Mardi Gras, but the Super Bowl is in Jacksonville the Weekend before. I have always enjoyed going the week of Mardi Gras and have never had any problems.

SimbaNoodle, we are headed down too, 4th-13th. We know a couple of families from Fairhope that are headed down. We are bringing my parents and SIL this trip we'll be at SSR, how about you? This year I won't have to be jealous of your Mardi Gras trip report, because I'll have my own!! Ha

Is the Mardi Gras appropriate for kids? We plan to go to Universal March 26, my kids are 2,4, 6, and 10, are they too young?
