When is information for Mardi Gras usually released???

We will be at RPR during a weekend in February & from past information, it looks like Mardi Gras will be going on during that weekend.

When does Universal release offical information?? I think my kids will love the parade, but it'll be a bonus, if the group preforming is one they are familiar with.

Thanks!
;) ,
Katie

Hi only acts so far are
Sat 02/10/07 Donna Summer

Sat 03/10/07 The Doobie Brothers

Sat 03/31/07 Lil' Brian Terry & The Zydeco Travelers

Sat 04/14/07 K.C. & The Sunshine Band

Taylor Hicks will be performing on Saturday Feb. 24, that's when I am there. I am not Taylor's biggest fan but he should be entertaining!

Thanks for the replies!!

We'll be there 2/17 so it looks like a performer hasn't been released yet.

Where can I find this information so when it is released, I can find it.

Thanks!!

The Universal Orlando Mardi Gras page should be updated soon. I have been checking out Pollstar (it has concert bookings of all cities).

I was never a huge Taylor fan either (but do like his CD), but I will definitely be there that night (the man posed with a VFTW(vote for the worst for those not up on American Idol lingo) shirt given to him by fans, I HAVE to support him, lol)

Don't get your hopes up there. ;) I affectionately refer to Mardi Gras as "has-beens on parade."

Sort of like the Food & Wine Festival performers at Epcot :teeth: . Survivor was playing when we were there in 2005 & I didn't know who they were until the sang "Eye of the Tiger".

But for Mardi Gras, it looks like sometimes they get people who are still popular. One year they had Blacked Eyed Peas who my kids like.

In fairness, last year Uni had Kid Rock, Big & Rich and Gavin Degraw--three legit concert acts who I could see playing a larger venue. And I have yet to see an ex-Monkee, so it's not quite as C-list as the EPCOT shows. :teeth:

Right, for some reason the suits target the older crowd with "has been" acts.
Every year when the list comes out I'm like blaaah.

You'd think that since Vivendi owns Universal Music Group, and Vivendi still own 20% of NBC Universal, they'd get some better choices found here.

http://www.universalmusicgroup.com/Overview.aspx
North America: Akon, Erykah Badu, Beck, Black Eyed Peas, Mary J. Blige, blink-182, Bon Jovi, Mariah Carey, Sheryl Crow, D-12, Daddy Yankee, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Melissa Etheridge, Eve, Fall Out Boy, 50 Cent, The Game, G-Unit, Vince Gill, Godsmack, Hoobastank, India.Arie, Jack Johnson, Jay-Z, The Killers, Diana Krall, Ludacris, Reba McEntire, Nelly, No Doubt, Puddle of Mudd, Pusscat Dolls, Ashlee Simpson, Snoop Dogg, Gwen Stefani, George Strait, Sugarland, Shania Twain, Stevie Wonder, Sting, 3 Doors Down, Weezer, and Kanye West.

Naw, that would be too simple bringing in some headliners for the younger crowd. Yet the people on this board complain about it every year and nothing changes.

I'm beggin' them to throw us a bone. 90% of the event's performers were popular before I was even born. The last currently BIG act they got was Black Eyed Peas several years ago, but even that was before they hit their peak popularity. I'm not sure Universal would have been able to get them the following year or now.

Kid Rock was certainly a more recent act, but it's arguable that he qualifies for has-been status. When's the last time he even released an album?

It was only 2 years ago they had Sean Paul one week then Black Eyed Peas the next that was a pretty good Mardi Gras fortnight :thumbsup2

Year before last he released the country album and had that HUGE hit with Sheryl Crow. And Big and Rich was there last year, they are big....and rich. Country music again.
This year they are supposed to have Taylor Hicks....this years American Idol winner. Oh and who did Epcot have this year? Face it. If you want a big concert you're going to have to pay for it. My beef with MG is that they dont have enough N'awlins bands. Last year was nicer with a lot of smaller bands playing on street corners, but lets bring in someone like Winton Marsallis, Fats Domino, or some heavy hitting blues icons. Get a real feel of Mardi Gras....But I guess when the rest of you think New Orleans and Mardi Gras, Blackeye Peas and the guy who sings the Greys Anatomy song is all the creole you need. :badpc:

Because this event totally takes place in N'awlins. A theme park in Florida? Who? What? ;)

Huey Lewis and the News is playing February 17th, bittersweet concidering the BTTF ride closing.

Well, I guess I won't be wasting my time with this. I don't want to fight crowds to see Huey Lewis :rotfl2: .

We will be in Orlando from 2/16-2/25 and have never been to Universal Studios. My 11 year old daughter is a huge American Idol fan and would love to see Taylor Hicks.

Where are the performances and what needs to be done to attend?

The concert is free if you have park tickets for that day or you can buy a special "after 5" ticket that is around $40, I think. There is also a parade with beads and other Mardi Gras performers during the day. The concert takes place inside Universal Studios, so you have to have park tickets to attend.

I think the parade starts at 8 and the concert is right after.
