Virginia Tech quarterback Marcus Vick has been permanently dismissed from the Hokie football program due to a cumulative effect of legal infractions and unsportsmanlike play, according to a statement released by the university today.

Virginia Tech had suspended Vick in 2003. According to the statement, Coach Frank Beamer met with Vick and his mother this afternoon and informed the quarterback and his family of the school's decision. The statement went on to say: "His recent actions are unfortunate and we wish him well in his future endeavors."

The statement also quoted Beamer who said, "I'm very disappointed that this didn't have a better ending. We wanted what's best for this football team and Marcus. I certainly wish him the best."

University President Charles Steger, Director of Athletics Jim Weaver and Beamer will answer questions at a press conference Saturday at 11 a.m., in the Shott Media Center. The school said there would be no further comments until tomorrow's press conference.

about time. he is a jerk. should have happened last year when he was accused of sleeping with underage girls. should be in jail. we will not miss him.

I am so glad at least a few officials are putting their foot down when it comes to terrible behavior. First TO and now Vick. Vick is a jerk, stomping on the defensive players knee was one of the worst cases of unsprotsman like conduct I have ever seen. And then he blows it off and said it was an accident.... uh-huh

Maybe, if officials keep it up, some of the bad boys will think twice before acting like total jerks. Think about it, Vick may have cost himself millions of dollars in contracts with his behavior, if that isn't incentive to behave well, I don't know what is!

Wow, I just saw during Christmas their family gave out goodies to kids, like tvs, scooters, and stuff.

Then again I am glad he is reprimanded like many athletes should...

I was very happy to hear that the school/football program took a stand. His behavior (and his past behavior) is inexcusable. He has a lot to learn it seems, but it seems like his head is too big for his shoulders, he seems to think he is better than anyone else...perfect example is this quote he made tonight, “It’s not a big deal. I’ll just move on to the next level, baby” he said when spotted at a Virginia Beach restaurant. Asked if that meant he would enter the NFL draft, he said, “Yeah, definitely.” I hope the NFL won't pick him up, but I think that is hoping for the impossible.

the foot stomping was simply the straw that broke the camels back. if that is all he had done there would have been a reprimand, but he wouldnt have been booted. he was booted becasue he has a pattern of rotten behavior that probably would have put another person in jail.

Although I notice that they waited until after he led them to their bowl victory. And it's not like they didn't know it, either; at halftime his coach tore him a new one and they considered benching him.

I suppose he'll get his shot in the NFL anyway, though. Even Maurice Clarett was drafted in the 3rd round. But there's a big difference between a head case at running back and having a head case for your QB.

Yea, when I first heard this we thought about the fact they waited till after the Bowl Game too.

I think it was a bad move .They should have either did it right then and there or waited.Until he made up his mind to enter the draft or not .

This will now be his excuse for the man keeping him down and not letting him get his degree .

Don't get me wrong what he did was as classless as it gets I wish that Def.lineman would have taken care of it right there.

They did this to save face they knew he wasn't coming back anyhow .Howabout revoking his scholorship and making him pay all those free years he got. Most have a conduct clause in them.
He dropped down on the wanted list anyhow with Youngs great game he had.

Visions of Maurice Clarett dancing in my head ...

Maurice was drafted in the third round ... and then cut from the Broncos. This week, we all saw him in prison scrubs for the armed robbery in the alleyway. Oops.

The true pity is that Marcus is as or more talented than Michael, but they were both so under-parented and adrift that there's just no hope for the former. Michael Vick has actually kept himself somewhat together, aside from that Ron Mexico thing (another oops)

I was SO SICK of listening about them every time stupid college football was on! No wonder he has a big head. Every week it was Marcus Vick this, Michael Vick that. I don't even watch football and I asked DH why they talked about them so much that I noticed.

DH said "what a Moron" and "good" when I told him about this thread.
