Not sure what board to post this... Just wondering if others have done a split stay with other locations in Florida. We took our last trip to disney this past dec... It wasnt the best trip and I think my husband and I are ready for a break from disney on our next vacation, but our kids love disney. So I was thinking of going to marco island for 4 or 5 nights and maybe 2 nights at disney world and just taking the kids to the Halloween party or mk one day depending on what time of year we go. Just wondering if anyone else has done this and how the kids reacted... I wonder if we should go to the beach first and surprise the kids with the disney portion at the end. If anyone has experience with beach/disney vacation, I'd like your feedback/input! Thanks

We spent one Night in Marco Island before Disney. Had no kids. We had a great place with a wonderful view of the ocean. If you all love the beach I would think you would be fine but aside from some boats out on the water I never saw much of anything else to do there. No mini golf, parks or anything. They may be there but we did not see them. I would go again for some peaceful time but would not stay more than 2 nights but I am not a big beach person either. :) Marco Beach ocean resort was great. We had a full kitchen, living room and bedroom but it felt like and upscale hotel. It is a bit back from the beach so you are not overlooking the sand.

We stayed in Orlando/Naples in Nov. We have stayed along the west coast on previous visits and I would suggest a stay in the Sarasota beach area instead of driving to Marco Island. The drive to and from Naples ate up two of our days, it's longer than you think and in all honesty I didn't see much difference in what there was to do. The landscape and the beaches are much the same. If we do decide to do a split stay again we'll fly into Orlando and out of Fort Myers. You could always do a day at Busch Gardens if you stayed in the Sarasota area. Just my two cents worth. :)

Marco Island and Naples tend to be pricey. Ft Myers Beach or the Tampa area is more reasonable.
