I know a lot of you have been to WDW recently to watch your DSs and DDs march in a parade in MK. I was just wondering if they were alowed to do candence. I heard somewhere that they weren't allowed to. Is that true? If you can't do the drum cadence, what did your band do?

I asked my DH, since he marched at WDW once. He said he thinks they used a cadence, but he can't remember for sure now, it's been about 12 years ago. He did say that it was the only parade he ever marched in that they didn't stop, not even once, lol.

If you aren't allowed to use a cadence, I'd would say you'd have a single snare playing clicks (tapping the rim of the drum); we had to use that once or twice in different parades.

Don't know, but curious for the answer. DS's band will be there in late March. I think it's for a competition as opposed to marching. Maybe both. Anyone else's child in WDW end of March first of April for this??

Hmmm, that's interesting. Our band will be marching in the afternoon parade at the MK on Dec. 9. Our band director said that Disney told him they could stop during the parade and do a VERY SHORT performance in front of the castle. I hope it's true because I'd love to get some pix of the band in front of the castle. :goodvibes

I'll let you know what happened after we get back.

Our band played just this past Tuesday night at MK and only played the cadence long enough to start their song over and over again. They were allowed to stop I think twice to do a little "show" but were told exactly where to do this.

I got to go back stage with the band. Let me tell you...Disney is vert very strict concerning the marching bands.

Thanks for everyone's replies! My friends (most of them are in color guard with me) and I were a little worried that would just have to keep taps (one of the drums are hit to keep the marching together). We like doing cadence, so we were hoping that we would do that. I guess we will just end up doing like what we did at the parade we did Saturday. We played cadence for a little bit and then did the song and then like 1 part of cadence and then the song and then 1 part of cadence and blah blah blah. I kind of want to do cadence the whole time, though. Ugghhhh.
BTW, our instructor said that Disney sent her a pretty thick rule book of all their requirements.

I knew you'd be excited bout that LoveMe. I don't think we'll do The Rock and that other stuff though. *pout*

Hope you guys do get to stop and play! It's been at least 13 years since my DH was there, so things definitely could have changed by now, if DH remembers right, and I could doubt that too......

Have a great time!
