There must be some band parents or band students out there in Disland.

If BOA means anything to you, you are on the right thread.

My boy's band is headed to Hemstead, NY for this weekend's festival. Anyone else here headed that direction this Sat?

Our band no longer participates in the BOA comps In Hempstead, but did in the past. We saw some terrific performances there! Be sure to pack your long johns- temps are expected to be in the 40/50's this weekend. We're attending competitions Sat night and Sun afternoon- I'll be bringing my blankets! Good luck and have a great time.

We don't participate in that but I've been a band booster for longer than I care to think about. This weekend is our turn for the consession stand at the football game. OH the joys of being a band parent. :teeth:

I'm not a band parent but we are helping our neighbor who is going to Italy with his HS band in April. Our local grocery store has a program where you can sign up for a percentage of your bill to go to any school/organization you want. I am pleased to be able to help these kids get there! Please dress warmly this weekend:D

1. Yes they have their long johns (we don't wear them much here in FL).

2. Yes being a band parent is a lot of work. We did costumes instead of uniforms this year, & my DW did a large amount of the sewing. At least we are a small band, LOL.

Picture 20 hours straight in a bus full of teens. My DW is there now.

Dave, with no one to fight him for the puter tonight.

If you only knew................................

We do TOB down this way. Last weekend we were to host our own competition with 14 bands and the Univ. of DE marching band. Well, it got rained out. I was the co-chair. So this whole week has been spent trying to pull together a competition for this Friday. I faxed or emailed or phoned over 80 bands in NJ, PA, DE, and Md. It has been crazy and our boosters have pulled through. We are on for Friday.
So yeah, do I know what Band/Music Boosters are? Some of the most dedicated parents I have ever been privileged to know.

a couple years ago we were scheduled for a comp in Seminole FL. There were huricane warnings that weekend & the beach towns were evacuated.

We made the rain date a few weeks later, but many other bands had conflicts. Not much competition. I think we brought home some trophys.

I was an active band booster until DD graduated last year. I do still have friends who have kids in band. This week is our regional band competition. I've done the 20-22 hours on the bus to go to WDW twice. It was fun, I did not mind at all.

My 7th grade DS is in his first year of Marching Band. We are going to Conn. this weekend. Yes I am bringing my long johns. We are going to WDW in April woo hoo... 19 hours on the bus. What a experience he has had.. he loves it.. he forgot all about playing football this year.

My boys go to a school with a winning band & a losing football team. Last year the football team had zero Ws.
The band is having more luck, already winning lots of trophys this season.

I am a band mom too. We have a festival in Newark DE (home of U. of Delaware) Saturday night. I think UD will perform. They are great.

Buffy, where are you?

We will be at Hofstra U, Hempstead, NY. We are traveling from the Tamps Bay FL area. Long story.
Dave

My daughter's band is also in TOB. We were rained out on Saturday, but were rescheduled for Tuesday. Over half of the bands did not make it. We are heading to Bensalem, PA this Saturday. The kids are great and I really enjoy watching all of the schools. Have a great day everyone!

Hey, slimplaw-good luck to the kids up there! I used to be secretary of the band boosters at DS's school (marching band of about 175). DH was on the half-time crew, rolling drums, carrying ladders, etc., Now DS is in college north of Dallas (still a music major) and this weekend he's flying the 500 miles to come home and cheer on his HS band at their competition. As I told a lady I met at MK once (her son was performing)-"Once a band parent, always a band parent!"

)-"Once a band parent, always a band parent!"

As a parent of 2 seniors in the band, I thought this was about at an end.
I do believe you.

OHHH!!! A subject near and dear to my heart!!!!

I am a former band mom....9 years of marching band half time shows, competitions, parades and trips. The highlight was always the trips! I managed to do the chaperoning on the competitions and parades. DH chaperoned the trips to perform in Washington DC (Cherry Blossom Parade) and WDW for Magic Music Days. The WDW trip was a blast. DH and I flew down (NO way would we spend 23 hours on a BUS with teenagers) and watched the band perform at EPCOT. My youngest got to march with the brass band down Main Street! WAY COOL!

Both the boys have graduated and moved on to other interests. They both do go back to homecoming to see the halftime show.

We now focus our interest in Drum Corp shows during the summer. I HIGHLY recommend seeing a show of theirs if you are former band parents. www.dci.org

We will be at the Drum Corp finals in Aug. 2003 in Orlando at the Citrus Bowl in addition to seeing them in Toledo, Indy, and TN.

I'm not a band parent, but I'm a band member! And I know that our marching band has some extrememly dedicated parents/boosters...theyre actually paying $1800 to rent charter buses for us to go to states in this year!

We don't participate in BOA, but we take a concert or marching band trip every two years. This spring we get to go to Chicago for a national concert band competition, and my senior year we're going to WDW for marching band!

Breezy Carol--I'm in New Castle, DE

Sherry-We'll be at Bensalem on Sat. also! Wm. Penn H.S. I think we perform around 5:30 What band are you with?

Our band arrived in NYC Thurs afternoon, a 24 hour drive. Practiced in the hotel parking lot, & moved to the ballroom after rain started soaking props , instruments, & kids.

My DW is there said they are on a strict pizza & Mountain Dew diet. LOL

Hi Buffy, My daughter is a "weapon" with Haverford. It looks like we're in the same group! I hope it's not too cold. Good luck to your band.
