March 5th-12th, 2016 - Western Caribbean on Disney Fantasy

Ben, Liz, Kate (7) and Beckett (4) -- it's our second cruise on the Fantasy and we can't wait!

Hello everyone,
We are counting down the days. This will be are 3 rd Disney cruise 2nd on the Fantasy. We would like to participate in the fish extender.
Cabin #6590
Layla, husband Michael, Lincoln (9) and Grant (6)

Small world! We are from Frisco too and know two other families going on the same cruise. Spring Break week and all :)
We are from Frisco as well! This is our first cruise but we are huge WDW fans. We are cruising with DD8 and DS6. Can't wait!!!

We are yet another family from Frisco! This is our first cruise ever. We have 11 year old daughter and twin boys that are 8. So excited for Star Wars night! we are on the 7th floor

Not sure what to do on this board. Our 1st Disney Cruise - 3 boys ages 12, 10 and 5 from St. Louis. Looking forward to the boys having buddies to play with on the Sports Deck. Would like to participate in Fish Extenders too. We are on 9.

Hi all! I'm Diana, along with my wife Julie and my 11-year old nephew Kyle. We are interested in the Fish Extenders, and we are from Las Vegas, NV. Room 7604. I've been on a number of cruises, but this is my first Disney cruise, and I'm SO EXCITED!!! Looking forward to meeting all of you. :)

Booking this cruise this week! Any thoughts on which part of the ship have the best staterooms for a 7-year-old boy?

Sorry for my garbled signature. I guess I can't update it until I post more?

I really need to get sewing on my pirate costume, but I'm exited for the cruise.

I'm curious what excursions everyone has planned. I'm going alone on my excursions, but am curious to see if anyone booked the same ones that I did. I booked mine through Disney, because this is my first cruise and if something happens I won't be alone in a foreign port without help.

In Cozumel, I'm being a Dolphin Trainer for a day. In Grand Cayman, I'm doing the Deluxe Stingray City Sandbar Snorkel. I realized after choosing those that I haven't been swimming in a few years, and never in the ocean. I've also never snorkeled before, so this cruise will be a bit of an adventure for me.

Hullo, everyone! Hands up if you're on board for this special cruise featuring Star Wars Day at Sea! :D

I'm spanking new to the DIS boards, and this will be our (myself and DH's) first cruise with DCL! It's sure to be special - March 11th is my birthday, which means I'll celebrate turning 30 in a hammock on Castaway Cay!! My DH is turning 30 on January 14th of next year, so it's special for him, too.

I'm still learning about everything there is to see and do on a Disney cruise and am especially interested in a Fish Extender exchange!

I'll put up the #2 post for Roll Call.

Cheers! :-)

We just booked on the March 5th sailing of the Fantasy and would like to be included in a Fish Extender group. Can you help?

Has anyone set up a google doc or anything for the fish extender??

Docvaden, do you want to be in charge of organizing fish extender exchange? I think the last time I participated in fish extender the organizer had everyone who was interested message him directly (using disboards) by a certain deadline, and then once the deadline passed, he posted a list of cabin numbers, names, kids ages if there were kids in the cabin. Of course, if you are organizing...whatever is easiest for you. :)

I don't have time to organize the fish extender, but I would like to participate, and I definitely think someone should put together a list of participants soon, so there's enough time for everyone to make/buy the right number of little gifts.

FYI, I'm relatively new to Disboards, but I just saw this DisBoards admin post, so I think we should probably stick to this forum for organizing the Fish Extenders:
------------------------------------

"It has come to our attention that our members have received solicitations to post their information on other sites including Facebook and Google Docs.

We have had complaints from several members that these turned out to be solicitations from travel agencies and other forms of advertising.
We have examined the policy of other cruise forums and have found that they have policies forbidding this.

In order to protect our members the DIS Webmasters have decided to institute a similar policy. Moving forward there will be a new infraction "Attempting to lure DIS members to post private information on other sites". It will be a 40 point violation.

Links to Cruise Meet discussion/Fish Extenders other than those on the DIS may not be posted or offered by any other means (PM, email, "search" directions) and we expect that those who have already posted such links/offers will remove them.

We also encourage DIS members to let us know if they are solicited via private message or any other means. This policy was first posted in early July, 2014 and has seen minimal compliance so additional emphasis is now being placed on the issue.

As always, the safety of our guests is our number one priority."

Gah I'm so jealous of the Star Wars fun! I wish we had kept our late February cruise now... oh well.

BlueSkyTraveler is right - we request that info from the boards is kept off of other social media sites since once it is off the boards it can no longer be moderated for safety. That said, it sounds like you guys have a good amount of interest! Being in charge of the FE is easy (if a trial of patience as people do go MIA sometimes after saying they want to join, but that may not be so much in your case since your cruise is relatively close).

Your group can decide on what information is necessary. A basic list may only have DISname/room number/number of people in the room. A more involved list could be first & last names/ages/room number/favorite character/favorite color/allergies/whatever is deemed necessary to know. Also a decision can be made as to size of FE. Some groups break out the list(s) at 10-15 rooms max, so that there are multiple lists (and some people will participate in more than one list). Other groups just make one big list (upwards of 20-30 rooms).

At some point the list will "close". Typically this happens 30-45 days out from the cruise, so that everyone participating has time to organize/prepare their gifts. Shortly before this time (about 2-3 weeks prior) the organizer will either post the list (usually via a conversation is best, as that's more private) to confirm everyone on it is still participating. And making a statement about "anyone not confirming by XX date will be dropped".

Once the list closes, the organizer will post the final list. Also, a decision must be made as to whether to allow late additions. Sometimes there is a "pixie dust" list. That is, basically, a latecomers list that gets posted about a week out from the cruise that others may or may not add to their "final" list. Be sure the "pixie dust" list participants realize they may or may not get gifts from others.
let me know if there is anything else I can help with! :)

Hi everyone,
I would be happy to organize the Fish Extenders for the March 5-12, 2016 Star Wars sailing! Please reply with your cabin number and the names and ages of the people in your family. I will close this on January 31st to allow time to make/purchase your items. A completed list will be sent out on February 1st.

What’s a fish extender?
On the Disney Cruise Line, each of the staterooms has a small silver fish or seahorse to the right or left of the door. Usually, it’s used to hold invitations, receipts, and correspondence during your cruise, but those participating in a Disney cruise fish extender exchange hang a bag or special holder to the “fish” to serve as a mailbox. If you want to participate, you sign up, provide your information and stateroom number, and make little goodies for each person or each cabin.

What to give for fish extender gifts.

This is the fun part – the sky is the limit here are some of our favorite fish extender gift ideas:

  • Minnie/Mickey hair accessories
  • Magnets to decorate our stateroom door
  • Bubbles
  • Glow sticks for Pirate Night
  • Pirate eye patches
  • Games
  • Nail accessories
  • Beach items
  • Flashlight
  • Water bottles
  • something from the country you are from
  • Movie candy
  • Something Star Wars for Day at Sea
  • Anything Disney! Be creative, and have fun!!
PLEASE INCLUDE ALL FAMILY MEMBERS IN YOUR GIFTS, YOU CAN GO TO MANY WEBSITES FOR IDEAS. YOU CAN DELIVER ONE GIFT PER FAMILY FOR THE WHOLE TRIP OR YOU CAN DELIVER SMALL THINGS EACH DAY- UP TO YOU! BE CREATIVE AS YOU LIKE - ITS FUN TO COME BACK TO YOUR ROOM AND HAVE A GIFT. PLEASE ENSURE THE NAMES AND AGES ARE RIGHT FOR YOUR FAMILIES TO MAKE IT EASY FOR PEOPLE TO DELIVER TO YOU.

Count us in! Thanks for organizing. I'm guessing you don't need adults' ages, so I'm just identifying us as "adults" and putting the boys' ages. I'm excited to design and print a fun star wars at sea magnet for each cabin! We are all super excited about the Star Wars day.
