March 4, 2007 Wonder - Anyone Else?

Linda, how do you go about requesting a handicap pass? My sister-in-law will be in a wheelchair for the trip and it would make it some much easier for my brother-in-law to get them all on board if they had one.

Does she have the temp handicap pass from the State? If not, have her get a dr. order and then go to the DMV in your area (I actually got the form from my dr., they filled out the dr. section and I just mailed it in - 2 days later had my handicap tag). If she is in a wheelchair, I would suspect she would also want to fill out the medical form on-line at Disneycruise.com and let them now that she is in a wheelchair and her limitations. I read there are also wheelchairs available at Castaway Cay, so you might want to check on that.

If your doctor doesn't have any, many states have the handicapped parking permit application on their website. It can be printed out and taken to the doctor for filling out.

hello everyone out there, had time to catch up on the posts tonight and seems all are ready to sail:sail: .been under the weather here myself for some time but getting better now.horrible sinus infection going from one of us to next, and so on,and so on....you get the idea.just waiting for passports to arrive.late send off for them ,but they say we should get them around the 18 of feb.looking forward to a nice relaxing time.i'll be back more often as time allows it.

Thanks Linda. Yes she has a handicap card from the state to hang from the rear view mirror of her car so she can park in handicap spots. I thought you were referring to a handicap pass issued by DCL. I assume you plan to just bring the handicap card and show it to DCL (rather than mail them something).

Doug,

That is what I am bringing, but if she is in a wheelchair, I would have her do the medical thing on-line at disneycruise. And, depending on how much handicap help she needs, she might want to request a handicap room with the bars and higher toilet, etc. I think those might even have connecting rooms. I know in hotels they do, because my parents always get a handicap room and one of their children always get the adjoining room. It helps with assistance - only makes sense.

I know you had mentioned she was having a hard time of it. Can you say what is wrong with her, or is it something she likes to keep private?

I just recommended that his sister-in-law fills out the medical form on-line and requests a handicapped room. Is that good advice or did I say something wrong there?

Thanks for your help.

Welcome back Michellepooh,SueM and Meeone2.

Meeone2, I hope you and your family are feeling better now. My kids are very prone to horrible cough and cold frequently in winters. So I can understand.Just crossing my fingers and praying that they are well at the time of our departure.

MichellePooh,I was reading through the earlier posts in this meet and you seem to be the most experienced disney cruiser among us.Any suggestions for excursions/tours with kids in Nassau.I am not much of a water person(got a phobia of suffocating) and my husband doesn't want to do anything on his own.I am leaning towards Atlantis or Glass bottom tour(looks scary to me) or just sightseeing on our own in nassau.

Linda, I finally found some great pirate stuff(caps, eye patches,coins,knife.....)
in $ store . But my DD 3 didn't even wanna look at them. She is a girly girl and wants to wear only nice pretty dresses.

Only 25 more days to go for us.Yee hoo.Called Disney yesterday and they said it'll be a week before we get our stateroom number.

I have done glass bottom boats before (not in Nassau) and I wasn't scared (and I scare easily), but I got motion sick - I usually don't get motion sick. My husband, on the other hand, gets motion sick out in the ocean, but can handle the glass bottom boats. My DH and DD are doing the glass bottom boat in Castaway Cay.

I have heard Atlantis is spectacular. We are doing the Fort, Queen's Staircase and if time Atlantis on our own. I guess the tours can be long, due to having to wait for everyone to load and counting everyone, etc.

Linda

Atlantis is excellent, however, be prepared to spend some money. My wife and I went a couple years ago and had lunch there. It consisted of a hamburger and fries and chicken salad sandwich and 2 drinks for a grand total of $40 and that was at the "cafe" restaurant that was there, not even the sitdown "nice" places. It was a good thing I was up at the Black Jack table.

Thanks Linda. We did complete the medical form and faxed it to our TA and DCL. She is using a wheel chair due to fatique associated with a medical condition which has also spread to her knee, but she is not confined to a wheel chair. She can get up and walk around, but no for long distances and with some pain. Thanks for the tips.

Hi everyone-

I am working from home today and a few minutes ago the UPS guy rang the bell. We received a package from DCL containing our luggage tags and this little booklet with lots of info (cruise basics, gratuity guidelines, embarkation form, etc.)

Now it's really official (as if paying thousands of dollars didn't make it real enough for me)! Hope you all get your packages today too!

great news paxton's mom:goodvibes it wont be long now.ta emailed me last nite and said she should be getting travel docs in a week or so,them ship them out to us thanks eager cruiser for your thoughts.we all are feeling much better this week.

Paxton's mom, did you book through a TA? We did, so I am wondering if we have to wait for the docs to be shipped to the TA who then has to turn them around and ship to us (as it appears from meeone2's comment). I haven't heard from our TA for a while. But I know she is very good, so I will just wait rather than bug her some more (I have sent her a million email questions already).

We did book through a TA (Small World Vacations), mostly because it was a little cheaper. The docs came directly from DCL though.

I was told by my TA (AAA) today that she receives the docs and then has me come in to go over and answer any questions I might have. Looks like it might be different depending on the TA.

I don't really care, I just want the docs here and the cruise time to be here. My DH and DD told me tonight they were tired of me talking about it. How can that be?:confused3

Linda

Awesome. We booked through Small World Travel also. The wife started packing last night. This is actually going to happen.:woohoo:

I received our cabin assignment yesterday, no upgrade, but have the cabin #.

I am going to start packing my "staged" stuff this weekend.

Yes.That's right.I called Disney(again) and they said the luggage tags are sent by them to Costco(that's where we booked our cruise from) and Costco mails it to us.

And we got our stateroom. We have been upgraded from cat.12 to cat.10 .But I don't know wether to be :yay: or :sad2: .Couldn't find that rooms report but a room near to it is described as "noisy" at docking. Didn't know all that stuff when I booked as its our first cruise.Maybe will try to change it at the port.Don't mind paying more money but just hope they have rooms left. Now I want to be on deck 5 or 6 near the kids club plus higher on the ship (just saw "Poseiden" last week and it scared the hell out of me).
