March 27, 2010 - Spring Break with Mickey on the Magic!

We are on this cruise also and so excited! It will be me,my husband and my son who will be 8.

Welcome, Cdaub! Glad to see the group is growing a little. :)

I know we don’t have many people yet who are definitely going on this cruise (where is everyone? :confused3) but I want to throw out the idea of a fish extender gift exchange. We did this on our last DCL cruise and it was so much fun. For any folks that might be new to DCL, here’s a link to a post that explains fish extenders: http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=33184281&postcount=2

Basically, it’s like a “secret Santa” gift exchange, where everyone who wants to participate brings a little gift to put in others’ fish extenders. Last time we got items ranging from pencils, postcards, stickers, and candy to intricate homemade crafts. As simple or as elaborate as anyone wanted to get – everything was appreciated and it was really fun to see what you’d find in the FE every day.

Anyone who'd like to participate please let me know and I’ll get a list started.

I would love to do the fish extender exchange...count us in! Thanks for doing this!

Has anyone received the pin for kids sail free that they mention on the main boards for the 7 day cruises?

Thanks

Hi Everyone!

My family and I will be joining you on this cruise too. I look forward to meeting everyone. I am new to the DIS boards too so I'm still learning how to navigate things. I would love to participate in the fish exchange....sounds like a lot of fun!

Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to say we are so excited for this cruise and meeting everyone. We would love to do the FE too. I've never done one before but it sounds like a lot of fun!

Hi, I am also from Long Island we may be neighbors, we're from Williston Pk...can't wait to cruise!!

We didn't  I did get a pin code yesterday for a 20% discount for a WDW vacation, but I'm not planning a trip there any time soon. Wish I knew how they decided on who gets those pin codes and for what.

Welcome to the cruise and to the DIS! This is such a wonderful place to get information. Don't be shy - people here are great about answering questions. :disrocks:

OK – we have some participants, so the Fish Extender exchange is on! :cool1: It really is a lot of fun coming up with ideas for little gifts, and it will help make the time until March go by faster. And as a bonus, running around the ship delivering to each cabin is a great way to work off some of those extra calories from the dining room. :thumbsup2

A couple of comments for those who’ve never done this before:
- You don’t need to have kids to participate.
- There are some great threads in the cruise forum with ideas about FE gifts, but it’s completely up to you what you’d like to do.
- On our last cruise, some people gave the same gift to every room, others personalized it a little depending on how many people were in each room and/or the ages and sexes of the kids people in the room. Again, up to you.

At a minimum, the information I will need from each person who wants to participate is the stateroom number(s), the number of adults and kids in each room, and the ages and sexes of the children (i.e. DS6 or DD14 is sufficient). I know some people are reluctant to put too much personal information out on the internet so you can either post the info on this thread or send me a PM. I’m going to start an FE list on the first post of this thread but I won’t post anything you send me in a PM.

Can't wait for our cruise!
Dany

Has anyone booked flights yet? The prices seem very high...I would hate to drive, but may have to unless these prices come down!

I think it may just be too early yet.

Funny you should mention that - I just booked our flights today! :woohoo: Southwest opened its reservations thru early May today so I jumped on them. $346 r/t per person from Vegas to Orlando (and no baggage fees); flights on the other airlines have been running over $400. I think prices may go down a little, especially after the Christmas holidays, but I'm too nervous to wait that long. These SW flights I got are at good times with no plane changes so I'm happy, and I can save all that time I've been spending constantly checking airfare prices!

I will be the bearer of bad tidings here. I called DCL today to see if the military rates were applied to our cruise and they said yes. Now, we booked in March 2009 and got a rate of about $5500 for 2 adults and 2 kids which includes 10% off and a $200 onboard credit ($5300 out of pocket).

The military rate they offered with identical features as our current reservation: $4700. I was hoping for about $3500. Oh, and we lose the 10% and the onboard credit.

Well, with the economy where it's at and some other unexpected expenses that have come up, that may be the end of our Spring Break cruise. I'm not giving up hope yet, but its not looking good.

Well, I have good news - we will be on the cruise! My wife and I looked at Royal Caribbean to potentially save money and realized that a similar itinerary would only save us about $1000. So, we committed to Disney even though we don't know how we are going to pay for it.

See you in 5 1/2 months!

That's a great price on your flights...the ones I priced are way more than that & we're only flying from NY. :sad2: I'll have to keep looking.

Just FYI - I started a cruise list and an FE list in post 1 of this thread. (I just listed those who said they'd already booked.) Still a small group, but we're going to have a great time!

I booked my flights too on Tuesday and we got a sticker shock! We were also hoping to use a few free flights but as soon as the airfare went on sale they were gone.....guess I wasn't fast enough.....Southwest really priced their flights from Long Island high.....but for a week away from the cold weather in NY....I guess it's worth it.....lol

I saw the FE list and I wanted to update my information. I am sailing with myself, DH and my DD2 (but she will turn 3 2 days after we get back). Gosh, guess everyone was right....time does fly.....I can't believe it!

I am also traveling with my parents (Nemos Lucky Fin) and they would like to participate too as well as my mother in law who has not joined our group yet because she is stll trying to think of a clever screen name!....lol But she should definitely be on by the end of the week!

Has anyone planned any excursions? I would like to contact Coral World to inquire about the Sea Lion Encounter....I think my daughter would get a kick out of it. Does anyone have any experience with the enounter or Coral World?

EFoote01......We are from Suffolk......We are in Coram......Are you flying down for the trip? We just booked Southwest and I still can't believe I am paying so much for flights....I looked at ones leaving from JFK and they were even higher! Why do all Long Islanders think Spring Break should take place in Florida.....lol

I would love to have my info added to the list. I am traveling with my DH and my daughter(SoThisIsLove) , son in law, and granddaughter. My daughter's mother in law is also joining us but has not joined rhe boards yet. She's still trying to figure out a screen name!
I was wondering....Where do you get a FE to hang? I've read that alot of people make their own but with the way my life flies by.....finding the time to sit down at a sewing machine may be hard....any ideas?
