March 26, 2011 - Eastern Caribbean Magic and FE Exchange!

My pediatrician highly recommends that I vaccinate for Hep A before the cruise. Has anyone else received this advice? I really do not want to vaccinate them. I have to do it this week for them to have some immunity to it. Any thoughts?
Thanks!;)

Well now that you're asking about it, we're going to ask about it this week. We had no idea we'd need travel vaccinations, but since I read your question I see on the CDC site that travel vaccinations are recommended for travel to St. Maarten and the Virgin Islands.

In all our prep research we missed that vaccinations might be something to do...I'm glad you're asking about it. If our doctors say we should be vaccinated, we will do it.

Are we too late for the Fish Extender? (totally understand if we are...)

We are going to try for an upgrade at the port. What happens then? We will be in a different room # than the one we shared with the group.

:dance3:

We did set the cutoff at March 1 but we don't want anyone left out! So PM me your info and I will add you. Please know that some people ordered bits and pieces for their FE gifts so they may have to improvise a bit. Please send me family last name, and everyone's first name, kids ages, cabin#, email address and dis name....... Then I will send you the FE list by email....

Hep A is usually transmitted through contaminated food or water. The vaccine takes effect about 2-4 weeks after the shot, although you need 2 shots (at least 6 months apart) to be fully protected. I cruised as a child, never had the vaccine and never got sick. However, if you plan on traveling a lot with your children in general it might be good for them to be vaccinated. (Both of my children were vaccinated for Hep A when they were infants.)

As for the erasers a PP poster mentioned, I've never even heard of them. Granted my kids are younger, so it's very possible I'm out of the loop. :)

I tried to upgrade today and my travel agent told me that our cruise was booked. :confused3 She said I could try at port. I really think I may need a window! Counting down the days....:rotfl2:

I was thinking of calling DU to see what the cost would be to upgrade..... But Jeff is already wanting to upgrade at port and I know that would be way cheaper, so we are keeping our fingers crossed.......

Keeping fingers crossed it works out for y'all!!!:goodvibes

I got the final FE list email on Sunday...I am counting 15 families. Is that right? I have to put in a final order on something to be sure I'll get in here in time to get ready in case we decide to ship our FE gifts to the port. Just wanna be sure. :thumbsup2

Yes, that is what I show, too.

So our schools have gone over our alloted snow days up here in Ohio and our district just announced today that they will be having a make-up day on 3/28 (first day of spring break). Oh -well, we will be in the middle of the Caribbean that day - no school for our two boys.

I don't know why they can't add the day to the end of the year. We get out so early - May 26th - before Memorial Day.

What I don't get is how schools can do this and expect people to change plans. Hopefully they won't give you a hard time about it. Here, they took away our February and March teacher work days which means that our kids don't get a break from the snow in mid January until Spring Break! We did not get off for Presidents Day (and that was already on the calendar BEFORE all the snow.... don't even get me started on that one!). And then they are making up the 3rd day the day after Memorial Day (we were supposed to gt out the Friday before Memorial day). They are hoping the governor forgives the other 2 days that we need to make up, but if not then we will go almost the whole week after Memorial Day.

I'm going to be Rebel Mom though I think and not send Ally at all after Memorial Day. The way I see it, NO school district should have to shut down for 5 days after 4-6 inches of snow. We get snow or ice every year so it's not like this was a rare event. They are just too cheap to take care of it and I blame the state/city/county for this. It's not the school's fault, but what kind of state lets its plows and sand trucks SIT while state roads remain incredibly dangerous a WEEK after the "storm?"

Sorry, just needed to vent about that.... :rotfl:

Working on my FE gifts now and getting SUPER excited!!!!

Kara - I am reading your trip report from 3/09 (Upgrades,Underwear and Upside Down Fun). I am cracking up at your MS ride - Fred Sanford comment.

:rotfl2: I LOVE writing trip reports! That's one of the things I miss most about not living in FL and going to WDW so frequently. Aside from not going to WDW so frequently..... :rotfl: So when it hit me the other day that I get to write another TR I was so excited!!! That's when I started the pre-trippie.

Jeff really wants me to write a book, sort of a humorous, yet informative, look at WDW. I have lots of ideas but they just haven't found their way out of my head yet. Maybe someday.

So the school district must have gotten a lot of complaints about the make-up day because they switched it to Easter Monday. Now the kids will not have any work to bring with or make up. :cool1:

On another note - we are in a winter storm warning and could have 12 inches of snow by tomorrow night. Mother nature best get this out of her system.

For those of you trying to upgrade, you've probably already thought of this, but we had wanted to upgrade and there was no availability, other than one that would cost I think $3000 more than we were paying now , so what we did was we kept checking every day on Disney's web site using their cruise search (as though we were looking to book a new cruise, but putting in our dates and destination) and as soon as we saw a room with a port hole available we jumped on it and called DCL to upgrade (this was a few months ago; room # for us hasn't change for FE's). It was a little bit cheaper than the original price for that room category, too. Just a thought!

Can you buh-ieve we're only weeks away now??? :woohoo:

I think my kids finally understand the fish extenders now....I kept going to the store to get more gifts and they kept asking "Mom, why do we need this many of x item again?!" :lmao:

And that is so cool about Lee's twitter note!! Can't wait to hear what he has to say!!!

My sister's kids had school today (they live in Dover) but my parents in North Canton said schools were closed. How much did you get? After all this snow, I'm sure you are REALLY ready for the Caribbean!!!

All i can say is woo hoo

I second, third, and fourth that!!!!

I have mine about half done and soooo excited because I made them myself!!! My DIS designer that was helping me just left me hangin so I freaked for a day or two and then tried it on my own. So I'm pretty proud of myself!!! :snooty:

15 days!!!!!!! :cool1::cool1:

We got about 10 inches or so - and the kids still had school. It was pretty nasty this morning but it was good by the time they came home. One of the buses (neither of my kids bus) was in a minor accident - thankfully no one was injured.

TWO WEEKS from right now, I will be at the airport - probably having something for dinner and waiting to board the plane :cool1::banana::cheer2:
