Hello all,

I'm new to cruising AND forums! Just decided on taking the plunge & am excited! Going w/my 11-yr-old daughter & am going to surprise her with the news on Valentine's Day. Hoping to meet some folks with kids close in age so she will have someone to look for when we board and/or at the Oceaneer Lab. Any tips from experienced cruisers would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Mermaidlady: Thanks for the welcome! Noticed you're in IL - I'm originally from upstate IN near Chicago (gotta love those winters - they make us good cruise prospects, I guess!) We're flying in late on Friday so will have 2 nights in Orlando before heading down to CC. Not sure when we'll arrive at the Port on Sunday - I just found out today that you can get on the ship in the late a.m.; given that, we may try to get there around 10:30 (same as you, I guess). Are you taking Disney transportation to the Port?

I'm in upstate IL about 40 minutes from the WI border. Lovely weather we are having right now. We will rent a car since that is cheaper than going on the busses for the six of us. My son is 10 and I believe there are other kids on this thread in that age range.

Welcome Delamom! Unfortunately my kids aren't the same age as your daughter, they're younger, but you'll find kids her age. This is our first cruise also and have really been looking forward to it!!

We're flying into Orlando on Friday & will spend Sat. @ MK. Taking the DCL bus to PC but won't get there until 1pm That's ok though - I'll just be happy to get there!

...yes, we're sailing on the budget plan! But my guess is we won't spend much time in the room anyway!

A reservation clerk gave me a good tip: says the inside rooms are pitch black with lights off (of course!) & might be a good idea to bring a night light or small flashlight to avoid disorientation when you wake up.

It's great to see everyone's enthusiasm - I thought it was just me feeling like a stir-crazy kid, counting down the days!

Hi CapnJackGroupie - I bet it's cold in Columbus, too! I lived there for 2 yrs. long ago - worked at a co. in Gahanna & really loved Columbus.

DH and I will be there with our babies, DS - 2 1/2 and DD - 8 months. It's flounders for the two of them!!

We have Palo reservations and I really just can't wait to RELAX!!!!!

That's true posting will bump us up. We have revised our plans and will now take a van to the port. It is picking us up between 10 and 10:30 at the airport hotel. I hope to be there by 11:30.

If you want to meet can you post age/sex of your children? Also how many in your party. I am thinking somewhere around 2:30 to 3 to meet.

PP if I could choose I would be on that western with you but it would double our fare so that option is out for us.

I have also to confess I screwed up our weeks. Adding apparently is not my strong suite. As of today we have 5 weeks 6 days till fun in the sun!!!

I just came in from shoveling.........CC sounds like heaven right now!!

...finally sprung the news on DD yesterday. School was closed due to the weather, so I gave her clues thoughout the day with her V-Day gifts (sweater: "you won't need this on Spring Break;" new bathing suit: "...but you will need this!," etc.).

She's still taking it all in - we've never seen a ship this size, much less been on one! We toured around the DCL website after dinner & she got more & more psyched as we looked. We had a great day & now we'll be counting down the days together!
