Congrats Lisa and Dave onand
Way to go....
:

OK so here's my surprise story - not as good as Sharon's but:
We had already planned a trip to WDW in January of last year for 5 days staying at BWV. Thought we would go down for a long weekend at MLK day and for DH's birthday. (big mistake - it was very crowded)
DS kept asking is he could bring a friend, since he'd be the only kid on this trip. Since he is getting older now, we thought, why not. So he asked his one good friend, and we thought he was going. This was back in the October prior to the trip. Then after a week or so, the mom came back and said no he wasn't going to be able to come. DS was very disappointed, and I told him well maybe next time it would work out. He let it drop.
In the meantime, I went to the parents of another good friend, and asked them if they thought their son would be interested and if they would let him go. They were very excited about the idea, especially since the boy had NEVER been to WDW before. So we set our plans up! We were not going to tell DS that we would in fact have a friend along for the trip, and they didn't tell their son that he was going.
We decided that since the trip was close to Christmas, we would spring it on them then. My friend is quite creative, and she went through and wrapped a whole series of gifts that had something to do with the trip - like a small model airplane to represent his flight, etc. We wrapped up a "certificate" that we had made on the computer that entitled the bearer to bring one "BD" (the friend) along on the trip!
We coordinated a time on Christmas morning so that one didn't open the surprise a lot sooner than the other and ruin it. As soon as they each opened their gifts, they were on the phone to each, excited beyond words!!
It became even funnier when the other boy thought that his mom and dad were just wrapping up things about the summer scout trip (when they were going down to WDW with our English scouts). He didn't realize at first that it was a different trip and was apparently pretty depressed that all he was opening was the summer deal he already knew was coming! When she finally said, no, silly this is a trip with Dustin in three weeks - he jumped around the living room for five minutes!!!
They had a wonderful time on the trip, DH especially because he LOVES taking first-timers and showing them everything!!
Sue - I love your story!! Of course I'm a sucker for a good surprise story. Anyone else have one? Please do tell!!
