March 2014 ~ No buy thread

Good job on meeting your goal QVCShopper!!

Thank you about my goal. Does your grocery budget of $375-$400 include paper towels, pet food, you know non-food items? I do not include that in my budget, just food.

Good job on meeting your goal QVCShopper!!

No, it's strictly food, so we probably spend about the same. I get that stuff at pet stores and Target, although I've mostly stopped using paper towels, plates, etc.

I think you are spending way less than I am for food and that is awesome!! Wish I could get as low as you.

I only make chicken and meat meals, and buy them in bulk at Wegmans. Boneless skinless chicken is always $1.99 a pound, and I split a 5 lb ground beef pack into six containers and make tacos with corn, spaghetti and meatballs, etc. For lunch, I usually eat cereal or soup since I'm home during the day, and trying to lose weight--down about 7lbs this month and I want to lose 20. My hubby and kids eat yogurt a lot for lunch, and we do breakfast for dinner about once every week or so. Anyway, I guess I'm saying we don't eat a ton of variety, and mostly just buy what's on sale or store brand at Wegmans.

I did recently start the gas deals at Giant in Pa. My last fill up for 23 gallons of gas was $6, and I have another $3.30 off up to 30 gallons accumulated.

Thank you so much for explaining your menu. I'm making mostly chicken and ground beef too but I do throw in some tilapia or shrimp maybe once or twice a month. I also buy cold cuts for lunches so that right there is about $40 to $50 a month. I can't serve breakfast for dinner as no one but me wants that. Another item on my shopping list is Lean Pockets. I have been spending $40 a month for that. DH & DD16 eat them quite a bit for breakfast or they have a bagel. Bagels are real cheap here at the bagel store, 6 frozen are $2.00 and we only have 1/2 a bagel with cream cheese. DD16 also has a Fiber One Coffee Cake some mornings too. She doesn't eat eggs or pancakes. DD12 & I either have Cheerios or half a bagel. Sometimes I have eggs.

After typing that out about Lean Pockets, I think we will skip a month or two buying them to help with unexpected expenses that have come up.

We don't have a gas program here.

So glad tomorrow is a new month.
