March 2014 car rental!

Awesome rates! Nine days from Dollar in a full-size for $146- 3/21 - 3/30. Woot!

Does anyone know what the charge is for an additional driver at Dollar? TIA.

Sorry that the discounts that we saw yesterday mostly for mid-March at Dollar/Thrifty didn't help out those of you going earlier in the month. You guys are getting close to that two week mark, when discounts usually start to occur, so things could change but you're going to have to be persistent.

As an example of that, for those of you that grabbed those Dollar/Thrifty discounts yesterday, put your dates back in (don't mess with your original reservation). My observation is the good rates are gone and they're pretty much back where they were. It changes that fast.

Also, it should be pointed out that the first two weeks of March seem to be the traditional spring break weeks and there's no interference from Easter this year (late April). There just may be more demand for the early part of March.

I was able to get in on the dollar deal yesterday. March 5th to 15th pick up in MCO same drop off. Total was $149.81 all taxes & fees. For a full size. Tried getting my friends that are joining us for March Break March 7th to the 15th. NO GO. Weird.

So with all this talk of saving money on March rentals, decided to go check it out. Saved $30 on my one-day SUV rental mid-March! Sweet! No codes but I'll take the savings!

I don't know if it will help anyone out, but I am finding the arrival date of March 7th really expensive! I am flying into TPA and even compact rates are over $400.
However, both Avis and Budget (using costco discount) have drastically cheaper prices if you book your rental at a neighbourhood location. By picking up in Largo, FL (still dropping off at TPA), my 9 day minivan rental went from $690 to $331. The savings are well worth the 15 minute and $40 cab fare. I will keep checking to see if rates go down, but if not, it's an option.

The only reason I am going when I am is Spring Break. I know over half of the colleges in Tennessee have the same break dates, our public schools have their break a week later. With all the snow days that the schools have had this year I'm surprised there will be a Spring Break.
I will keep looking and hoping that something better turns up. I keep my iPad with me as much as possible so I can check rates. Many times I end up going with Hotwire at the last minute.

How are you guys getting these deals? I just checked an an economy for 3/29-4/4 is $208 base through Dollar.

Dollar/Thrifty had a special a few days ago where we seemed to get ridiculously low rates for mid-late March. It wasn't an advertised special or anything, and the rates seemed to only be good for that day. Fortunately for you, you still have about 6 weeks to go. Keep your eyes open and start checking frequently...once you get to about the 2 week mark, even check at least a couple times a day.

Costco had a little drop this morning. Weird thing is for my dates most of the car categories Avis is the cheapest which is unusual. Check your March Costco rates.

Interesting, that is unusual. I took a peek at Costco and the best rate I saw for my dates (March 14-19) was $120.51 base, $173.02 total for a compact (larger cars about $15 more). Not bad, but not close to what the Dollar one day sale was last week.

Definitely! I wish I had been able to get in on the Dollar deal but unfortunately we are picking up at MCO and dropping off at TPA so Dollar doesn't run the special deals for that. Hoping they'll keep dropping!

I just checked the Costco site for our dates (March 21-31). The price on the Costco site has come down, but no where near as good as our current Dollar reservation ($365.87 vs $166.91) for eleven days for a Standard. For our dates, Budget is cheapest on the Costco site.

Anyone know what Dollar has for their Standards?

Don't know about the cars , but that is great rate.

Just checked on Dollar, and we are saving over $300 from our previous reservation on Budget, even with the codes from mouse saver. Both are alongn hotel plaza. I had a great experience with Budget there in December (great upgrade!) but this is too good to pass up.

13 days out and the prices for my week keep going up. Happy that I at least was able to get a car for 259 for the week, the most I have ever paid, but much less than I am seeing elsewhere.

Part of my problem is that I am picking up at Sanford not MCO. Much cheaper there, what makes me so mad is that I can fly into Sanford for less than half the price of MCO, but my condo is 10 minutes from MCO. So I am still ahead, at this point.
