March 2012: Spring Break, Here we come! Threadjackers take over the world!

Awesome job on your bag. You are now ahead of me in sewing. I have never made a bag and never put a zipper in anything. They scare me.

I do have a bag running around in my mind if I get some time to sketch it and make it a reality.

I'm so excited!!!! I finally finished my park bag. Is it perfect? No. But I'm happy with it. The biggest issue was sewing the zipper on. Well ... not actually sewing the zipper on, but in. It's hard to explain. Mom tried one way, and we saw that the zipper was upside down. So we made good use of the seam ripper and tried again. Then seam ripper. Then again. I made some stitching mistakes ... and if you look closely, you can see them ... so don't look closely okay? lol

Here's the front of my bag:

I'm so happy about it! Like I said, it's not perfect ... but it was the first time I ever stitched a zipper in, and it caused some visual issues. Not noticeable from a distance, but pretty noticeable up close. But who cares, right? It's MINE!!!!

OH! There is webbing (nylon strap) inside the strap. It was a PITA to put in ... but it's in. DD's does not have webbing her in strap.

GORGEOUS!

I am in the process of booking my next Disney trip (march 3-12) so you and I will be at the world at the same time!!
However, this is the first Disney trip I have ever planned and I am so lost! I am pretty new to the DIS boards- and there is sooo much info on here
Is the TP subscription worth it?!
If you would like to help a fellow disney goer out- I would love to possibly connect with you on facebook?! :)

Thank you!!! :goodvibes

The zipper was a PITA. Mom had to help me out with the design of it, but I did all the actual sewing (except for a bit of hand stitching that mom did for me). Mom said next time I have to get a bag and follow the pattern though. :lmao:

I hope you get some time to sketch it out! I'd love to see it!! :goodvibes

:welcome: to my PTR and :welcome: to the DIS! :goodvibes

There is actually a DISmeet scheduled for March 8 at 9ish PM at POR if you'd like to come join us!

I absolutely LOVE TP! I have used their website for years, but broke down and purchased a subscription for my last trip ... and I dunno how I lived without my subscription! I highly recommend it ... partly because it's nice to see dates so far in advance, and because of the Lines app for my phone! It's pretty accurate, and when people update it, it saves a trip from trekking across the park.

Granted ... I can only vouch that the TP subscription is worth it for me ... each person is different. If you're not about seeing the CC estimates in advance or using the Lines app, then maybe it's worth it. :confused3 I can't live without it ... and I know others feel the same way, but I'm sure there are those who would vouch that it isn't worth it. To each their own. :goodvibes

Where are you planning on staying? :flower3:

OMG Liddy - I love it!!! IT turned out so cute! I am soooo PROUD of you!!! :lovestruc :thumbsup2 :cool1: :wizard: It looks to be the perfect size and the perfect comfort level - it's awesome! I can't wait to see it in person! :thumbsup2

I just wanted to take a minute to welcome you to Liddy's PTR. :rotfl2: Sorry, I couldn't resist. I just wanted to mention that I will be at WDW March 8-16, staying at POFQ, so we will be there at the same time too. And I will also be at the Dismeet on the 8th. :) I agree with everything that Liddy said... I have the Lines app, as well, but I have yet to actually take it on a test run... Looking forward to it though. The first thing you want to get planned when planning your WDW vacation is where you'll be staying (since you have dates, I sure you know that already), then you need to figure out which parks you are going to be in on which days (there's a schedule posted at disneyworld.com)... from there you want to plan your sit down meals (again on the disney website) and get them booked asap - since you are going during free dining - there might not be a lot available - you don't have to be staying on Disney property to make ADRs. Once you get your meals booked - you just sit back and relax... until your trip gets closer - or you occupy your time by making stuff for in the parks... :lovestruc Anyways, welcome to The Dis. :thumbsup2

Thank you D~! I'm taking it for a test spin at school today. :goodvibes

I posted it on FB and my aunt asked for one, too! :lmao:

:woohoo: I have been threadjacked!:banana::banana:

D~, you're going to soo love the Lines app in the parks! You "win" badges and level up. :lmao:

But even so, it gives estimated waits, even if no one has updated the line for that ride, and they're usually pretty accurate. Totally fell in love with it last year. DH told me to put my phone away several times... but I couldn't because I was on Lines or updated FB. :rotfl2:

skyecaitlin88,
D~ is all over it. I totally can't wait to hear where you're staying, what you'll be doing, where you'll be noshing. Mmm... food.

Any plans to start a PTR? Please let us know if we can offer advice on anything! :goodvibes

Liddy, your bag is so cute!!! It is so nice to have the DIS to help us while away our time until Disney! :lmao:

Love the arrival day plans, and your new bag is adorable -- I love it.

Great job :thumbsup2

I've actually decided ... when I do my Girls Only trip in August ... I'm going to make us all matching park bags. I'll probably go with a different pattern (hopefully by then I'll be skilled enough for something nicer) ... but will totally make all us girls matching bags ... and maybe even a bag for each of us in our favorite character. One, or the other, or both. :confused3 :lmao::rotfl2:

Love the bag! I do not sew at all. Like I don't even own a needle and thread. Thats what Gramma's are for :) But now after seeing your bag and of course D's bag....I might have to start. Or better yet, show it to Gram and see if she can make it :lmao:

I stalked out D~ on Etsy, and might have to order one! Love the idea of having one of those cute bags. I bought a new small Vera crossbody, but would love to have a Disney-ified one. We will see how talented I get in the remaining 82 days!

Thank you!

Typically, I take things to mom ... and I sorta did ... I asked her if she could make something like D's duck-butt bag and she said she could try. But then I realized, it would be more fun if I made it myself. And then I started thinking of all the possibilities learning to sew would open up ... I could make dresses for DD and myself ... curtains for every room (because I can never find ones that I fall in love with at the store) ... and other accents for the home. :cloud9:

I've not considered stalking D~ out in Etsy ... but mostly because I dunno how to find her. :confused3

I was originally going to buy a Vera mini-hipster, but I really wanted a Disney-fied bag. :lovestruc

Can't wait to hear what you decide! popcorn::

I had never even heard of Etsy before DIS and now I am hooked. They have so much great stuff. I just searched for Disney bag and saw her duck butt one.
And I know, I know, I should be more crafty. I used to be a scrapper, but I just don't have the space for all the stuff now. Who knows...maybe you all will inspire me to turn my basement into a craft room. Hey, it could happen ;)

Found her! :goodvibes Thanks for the tip!

I'd love to have a basement to turn into a craft room. We live in a teeny tiny apartment, so there's no turning anything into something elese ... unless we kick out one of the kids. :lmao::rotfl2:

Or ... if I kick out DH, I could totally get rid of the Queen bed and go for a Twin.... :scratchin

:lmao::rotfl2:

Your park bag is really nice. Great Job! I have a brand new sewing machine I bought in 2008 and have not so much are figured out how to thread it yet. :rotfl: My old machine was a dinosaur no fancy dials or stitches and weighed a ton. I can sew somewhat but zippers are not my thing, I have put in 3 in my entire life

We might bump into each other (literally) in MK on March 4th. We are arriveing that day also and I was going to avoid MK since it is suppose to be so busy, btw last time I checked it was 9.2 not 9.1 :scared1: but decided to head over there for a couple of hours and do lunch at LTT. I have been at MK when it was a 10.0 so how bad can 9.2 be :rolleyes1 :rotfl2:

We also have a day planned later in the week for MK

Liddy, are you seriously stalking me??? :rotfl2: You could have just asked. :lovestruc I would have just told you how to find me on Etsy. :surfweb:

It's actually changed again ...

Anyway ... if we see each other, I'm sure it would definitely literally be bumping. :lmao:

I don't expect to get much done ... but at least it will be something, right?

Thanks for the compliments! :flower3:

Well ... I wasn't ... but I am now. :rotfl2:

I didn't think to ask ... and I wasn't even 100% certain you were on there. But I'm totally buying that duck-butt bag for $1.

I'm totally kidding. I fully read the message that it wasn't for sale for $1. :rotfl:

Now, there's an idea.... :rolleyes1

D~

Think it will work? :confused3

The more I look at this, the more I doubt my decision to visit MK on "arrival" day.

In the past, we always went to DTD on arrival day, except last year. I wanted to see MK on arrival day.

Now I'm doubting a visit to MK ... if it's a 9.3 ... I'm not going to be happy trying to walk down Main Street. :headache:

Now I'm thinking about hitting another park ... but really ... MK is the one I want more than one full day for. I just don't know. Maybe we should go to Epcot for the evening? :confused3

Any suggestions? I'm just worried that it will stress us all out being nearly wall-to-wall peoples. Not a great start for a vacation ....

Then again, if I don't do MK, then I have to rework some ADRs.... because March 4th is Crystal Palace. Advice please!

Take this with a grain of salt...I have never used Touring plans. (not entirely true, I did sort of use it for our first trip but that was 10 years ago.)

I use the dreaded TGM or Easy WDW. Both of them say March 4 is an ok day for Magic Kingdom. The morning is a preferred day while the evening is only a non preferred because of the EMH that evening. It is not a highly visited week, so even if the crowds are a bit heavier at that park, over all it shouldn't be too bad...

Of course, what do I know!? Our very first trip was during Spring Break and we attempted to go to Magic Kingdom without any planning....and didn't arrive until 11am! We quickly turned around and went to Animal Kingdom!

So, as you see, I am absolutely zero help! But at least I tried....I do get some points for that right...
