Anyone having any luck with car rentals for March yet? We are renting out of Sanford this year so I am hoping I can still find some kind of deals! Fingers crossed! Also, does anyone know what time we will need to be at the Sanford airport for a return flight of 9 am?
Thanks

I can't help you with your Sanford questions but we are flying into MCO March 6th and staying for a week and I have been checking Alamo for about a month now. Yesterday morning I was able to book a full size SUV (I usually get standard or mid-size but the SUV was cheaper) for $264 (before taxes & fees). Later in the day that same vehicle was $902 and it still is today and the cheapest car was the economy at $385 or something like that. I am going to keep checking because I really only need something smaller but this was the best so far because it has been over $600 for the smaller cars. As it gets closer I'm hoping to change my reservation. Their fees can change a lot during a day. :surfweb: Good luck to you.

Go to autoslash.com. They do the shopping for you. You can shop for rental deals from Advantage, Dollar, Thrifty, Hertz, and a few others. The only disadvantage I see so far: You need to setup a ressie for each company that you wish to shop. I have 4 separate ressies setup for my Hawaii trip in March (Advantage, Dollar, Thrifty, Hertz).

In fact, I just got an email showing they found a better deal, cancelled the previous deal, and reserved a new deal....and I didn't have to lift a finger.

The newest deal for a 9-day econ. car: $321 or $36/day (that includes everything...taxes, fees, rental surcharge {which is crazy expensive...even for HI}, and etc). $321 isn't bad for HI prices but March is several more weeks away...I'm sure more deals will come.

I book my car once I have my flights booked. Then I continually monitor (weekly at first, then daily when I'm a month out) the car price to see if a better deal comes up. Just saved $150 on my January rental.

Edited to add that after posting this response I went and checked again and my "savings" is now $210. Yes, the original reservation was high. I'm now renting for a week at $166 total with taxes, etc.

Thanks all! I finally have my flights booked, as of last Thurs! $69 each way from Niagara Falls NY!!! That is why I am looking for car rentals now! I know from past experiences they will come out with coupons around Jan for March!

There are some codes in the February 2012 car rental thread that may be helpful. I don't know if it's the best prices out there but it's a good place to start!

so far renting fror thurs-monday is more than I've paid in August for 10 days!

we're going beginning of march.

any codes out there?

The best I've found for around Easter is Budget intermediate 3/27 - 4/7 11 days for $404 total. I played around with picking the car up at the Dolphin or the Car Care Center, but it worked out better picking up and dropping off at MCO for the full 11 days. Not gr8, but not horrible. The decent rate must have something to do with the greater than 7 days because 3/31-4/7 7 days is $637 total for an intermediate.

I reserved a car through Alamo. Picking up at the Dolphin was the cheapest way. 6 days for $300.00. (March 19-24)
It would be easier for to pick up at MCO, but the rates more than double.

I will be checking here for any codes to try and be able to pick up at MCO on March 18th.

Thanks for everyone's help.
