March 16th, 2013- 7-Night on Disney Fantasy

well--DH and I decided we would have to tell the kids before Christmas. Mainly because i really need them to get on board with saving and not doing all these extra things that everyone wants to do that costs $$$ during the year. DD14 wants to do cheerleading, DD10 wants to do dance, DD12 has a lot of Band events coming up that are costly (some cannot be avoided).

So we decided to tell them, and last week we went to US/IOA and took a little side trip to Cocoa Beach to go to dinner with friends. (we are from Cocoa Beach originally).

So we went down to the little parking area near the boat launch at the inlet at PC and watched the RCI Freedom of the Seas sail away, and then the Disney Dream. They were impressed with how big it was! Then I asked them if they wanted to go on a ship just like it next spring break? They said YES but I think they were thinking "no way is that gonna happen". SO we told them it was booked, and they were SO excited.:banana::banana:

So now the cat is out of the bag and they have already been great about helping save money. We've agreed to eat dinners out less, and DD14 and 13 are making crafts to sell at a show we have here to help bring money in (which is great--they need to learn life is not a free ride! lol!).

I knew there was no way I would be able to keep this a secret for 9 more months!

A year seems like SOOO long--but i bet it will go by so fast!

What a great way to tell them! That is great that they are helping with the saving.

Our spring break just ended and we did not go anywhere this year so all the kids talked about was our disney cruise last spring break and how much they could not wait for next year.

Hello. I posted a link to the Cruise Logo that I designed and it didn't work for any of you. My DH had a look and found the right link. Sorry the other didn't work. I am hoping that this one will. Please oh please if it doesn't let me know once again. Like I said before I am new at this. Also if you have suggestions for changes or a whole different look let me know. I have fun doing this and would love to have a challenge. With no further delay here is the new link

I look forward to any comments and suggestions. Thank you

Looks nice, thanks for doing that. The shirt design that was posted by a fellow cruiser looked great as well. Looks like we have some creative people in our group. We really got into making magnets for our door on our 1st cruise. I just logged into the planning center and it says 353 days till we set sail! Less than a year now, yes!

Hi everyone....happy spring...finally!!!!:cool1:

You can definately count us in for t shirts.....we would LOVE to see a logo that is St. Patrick themed since we sail over St. Pat's.....I don't have a creative bone in my body, but I think that would be sssooo cute! What does everyone else think?

As far as FE gifts go, we will have to give it some more thought! On our second cruise, our first Christmas cruise:santa:, we participated in every DIS event there was and got completely exhausted and burned out. We felt like we were always running and never got to truly enjoy the cruise itself. We sat out on everything with the 3rd cruise, 2nd Christmas cruise :santa: and found we were much more relaxed and enjoyed it so we may participate, but at a very limited level. We definately want a DIS meet and greet.....that is always a blast! I will have to let you know later about the FE event....but knowing my DD19, we will probably participate 1000% haha! ;)

Hello and :welcome: Nice to hear how you let the cat out of the bag. I know your kids are going to have so much fun not to mention you as well.

See you in just under a year

Shannon I have worked on a couple of t-shirt DISigns although I am new at this or rather because I am new, I only have posted one and worked on another but it just won't totally upload. Thank you for the idea :-)

Thanks! I've actually been on this board a while, just haven't posted much. I did post a little intro early on, but a recap:

Dave (dh47 at cruise time), myself (Paula --Also 47 at cruise), and oue 3 dds--Rachel will be 11, Madison 13 and Jessica 15.

This will be our 2nd cruise, the kids first. A link to review of our first cruise is in my siggy.

SO excited about the cruise--we have been looking at excursions and wondering how we will pay for them with 5 of us!

I could see it and then it asked me to join to download, which I did and I couldn't get it then. It's gorgeous and I'd love to use it too.

Any thoughts on making a private FB page for our cruise?

Our first cruise was in January of this this year, and we had a FB page set up for our group. It really helped get to know each other even better. Also, we were able to see pictures of each other and our families.....Not sure how to explain it, but it just made the group seem more personable. Many of us are still FB friends today.

Also, my DD15....I'm really hoping she "meets up" with some of the other girls in the teen club. She's an outgoing/social girl with people she "knows" but had a hard time connecting on the ship ( I think because she was too reserved). One girl went out of her way to befriend my daughter, but for what ever reason, she rather stay close to us (which is not a problem), but I think she would have enjoyed having that "teen time", if she would have allowed herself to "relax" more. So, I was wondering, do we want to "introduce" some of our kids to each other on here (or through a group FB page) and let them get to "know" each other pre-cruise as well? My DD's BFF (who will also be 15 on this cruise) is supposed to be going with us as well, which I think will help DD15, but things can happen between now and the next year that could allow her not to go....So time will tell.

Thoughts?

I love the idea of a facebook page! I know my DD18 will as well.....facebook is her life as a teenager haha :lmao:

I have no idea how to set one up, but will be glad to join haha :lmao:

I'd join a face book page and my dd15 and dd13 could too. I find this board format cumbersome and old fashion.

I just opened a group FB page. I titled it the same as the page here on the Dis: "March 16th, 2013- 7-Night on Disney Fantasy".

Here's where I'm not sure, as I didn't make the first cruising FB page I belonged to.....Do I have to be friends with each person in order to add them the group? I know I am FB friends with the person that made our old page.

Even so, if you want to freind me (with a note that you want to be part of the FB group page), I can friend back and then add to the group page, and then unfriend if you don't want to remain FB friends?

My name is Elizabeth Shoemaker Kaplar on FB.

This is the only way I know how to do this....Unless someone has another idea?

Or if someone is more clever at this type of thing, I can make/add someone else as admin. of the FB group.

I opened the FB page, so far the only other Dis on there is "Long Tressses". I did add my DH, my DD and her BFF (who will both be 15 at the time of the cruise).

I think this will be a great place for our kids (that have a FB page) to join in with us. Also, helps to be able to "see" each other and makes the getting to know one another a little more personal.

Group is titled "March 16, 2013- 7-Night on Disney Fantasy"

Elizabeth

I finally found it! Its March 16th, with the th. That's where I was going wrong.

Jessica (dd15) and myself asked to join! I may send a few other folks over who dont know how to use this board.

I'm sitting here listening to the wind howl outside and counting down the days until we're aboard the Fantasy... :-)

My name is Kris. DH, my two sons (who will be 14 and 13 when we sail) and I are very much looking forward to being on this cruise. We were lucky enough to cruise on the Dream on a 5 night double-dip last summer, but that was with other family in tow. This trip is just us - and we're looking forward to getting to spend some time together (although my teens would say that they're looking forward to swimming, the pizza, and the ice cream machine).

We live outside of Omaha, Nebraska, so we'll be flying into Orlando at least one day early - we may be spending some time at Kennedy Space Center to satisfy the science geeks in the family as well.
