March 13th 2011 Fiesta time on the Wonder!

Lots of excitement that last few days huh? It seems a moving target what days we will be where...and what hours.

I think I'm going to sit tight and not book anything on the "new" Cabo day until DCL starts offering their "Port Adventures" online.

I doubt I book through Disney but then again..the hours in port are so "weird" I'll consider it. Sitting tight.

So for now...I'm keeping our DCL ressie for Cabo Pirate Treasure Hunt Fantasy. Waiting a few days on the new Cabo....and sticking to a resort day in PV...but really tempted to jump resorts from Dream PV to Crown. The Pirate ship I think is what swayed me. pirate: Kids willl LOVE that. Looks more family friendly than Dreams and it is less money. :cool1: Thanks guys for talking it up. I think you made a believer out of me.

Isn't it a blast to plan?

Two More Cruise Lines Cancel Mazatlan Calls; Reports of Increased Violence to Blame
(1:45 p.m. EST) -- Holland America and Princess Cruises have now both canceled calls to Mazatlan, following the lead of Disney Cruise Line, which pulled the port from Disney Wonder's seven-night Mexican Riviera sailings indefinitely.

Donaldm, who is currently sailing aboard Sapphire Princess, posted the following this morning on the Cruise Critic boards: "The official announcement says in part: 'There have been recent incidents of violence in the Mazatlan area. As the safety and security of our passengers and crew in our priority, we reviewed our call to Mazatlan with our Security Department shoreside. Based on information provided, Princess Cruises, along with a few other cruise lines made the decision to cancel our call to Mazatlan this week.'"

Sapphire Princess is in the midst of a weeklong cruise in the region. Instead of its previously scheduled half-day call in Cabo on Thursday, the ship will stay for a full-day on Wednesday (when it would have called in Mazatlan) and spend a full day in Ensenada on Thursday.

However, the Princess change may not be permanent. According to line spokeswoman Karen Candy, "We have not made itinerary changes to future Mexican Riviera cruises for Sapphire Princess. Our next Mexican Riviera cruise will depart Los Angeles on February 12, 2011 and we will continue to monitor the situation and communicate any new developments or itinerary change."

Holland America's Oosterdam, which embarked on January 22 for a seven-day Mexico cruise, has replaced today's scheduled port call in Mazatlan with a call in Manzanillo. According to a statement from the line, the change was made "in response to recent incidents of violence in Mazatlan. Discussions will be occurring with local authorities to determine what steps are being taken to address this issue."

Like Princess, Holland America has only confirmed the Mazatlan cancellation for the current sailing. The line said it will make decisions regarding future calls on the basis of developments in Mazatlan and discussions with local authorities.

These changes come in the wake of a string of violent crimes in Mazatlan, including an incident in which a 68-year-old man from British Columbia was shot in the leg during an alleged gang shooting on January 17. Furthermore, the Mazatlan Messenger, an online newspaper that covers Mazatlan and surrounding areas, reported on Monday that in January alone, "31 people have been killed in violent incidents, three of which occurred last Thursday."

In response to the situation, The Mazatlan Tourism Trust issued a statement calling the incidents extremely rare and the port city "one of the safest destinations in Mexico, legendary for its history, culture and the warm hospitality of its people."

"What other other cities would they pull out if they applied the same rule? Miami, Los Angeles?" asked MTT spokesperson Julio Birrueta. "It's more perception than anything else," he added.

Still, according to Birrueta, authorities have been quick to act, and the Public Safety Ministry designated a special Mazatlan assignment for 120 elite police officers.

"As you know, Mexico has a challenge in what we call the border areas [between Mexico and the United States]," he said. "We're 1,000 miles away, and we're really trying to make sure it doesn't spill into our tourist areas. We don't want the [recent] incidents to happen again."

In the past few months, a string of other cruise lines -- including Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line and Carnival Cruise Lines -- have announced departures from the region, citing decreased demand, possibly due to health and security concerns.

Carnival and NCL, both of which currently have ships sailing in the region, have not reported any itinerary adjustments. Carnival spokeswoman Jennifer De La Cruz told Cruise Critic Wednesday afternoon that with Carnival Spirit's planned Mazatlan call more than a week away, "we are continuing to evaluate the situation but have not made any changes at this time."

We'll be sure to keep you posted with any additional updates.

My kids are so looking forward to the PV crown. I love the fact that it is walking distance from the ship. Still torn on what to do in Cabo. I'll have to see what Disney is offering.

On another note: Are we on for the meet and greet at Dave and Busters Feb 4? How many families will be there?

We will be at Dave and Busters in the Tempe Marketplace at 6pm on February 4th. Who else is going besides us, Dramamama, and Mindy??

We're planning to go. It'll probably be me, DH, and DD (7). I don't think DS (16 1/2) will want to go with us. He's a teenager like that!

Jac,

I have a teenager who is exactly just like that!! He is 17 1/2 and he is not even going with us on the cruise because he thinks he "too mature"" for Disney!! He is going to Dave and Busters because he likes the games. If your son wants to come he can hang out with him.

The excursions have been made available for the first Cabo day! It is back to showing Cabo on day 3.

I can't book anything for Cabo 1st day yet. When I try to book something for Cabo it shows Cabo 6th day is the only option.

That's strange, I was able to rebook the Dolphin Kids for the first day at 11:15 - 1:15. It also gave me a couple of more options besides just that time.

I also tried to book our beach, buggy, and swim for Tuesday and I only get Friday. From what I can tell only the dolphin swims have been added. Maybe that is all they could get worked out, or maybe they will add more as the days go on. Who knows, but thanks for the update.

I looked at for PALO brunch for our new at sea day and it is already sold out. I wish they would have moved our ressies to that day. Now we have Palo Brunch on our 1st Cabo day. I am still not sure if we will be doing that one or not. It is at 11:30 AM. I am thinking we will want to do an excursion.

The Buggy Beach & Swim sounds good Tracielynn. We might have to do that also. Did you see what time it was leaving on Day 6?? 6:45 AM ~ Oh my, getting two teen agers up and moving at that time will be difficult!!

Hope lea,

Brunches are only offered sea days......they won't have it on a Cabo day.
Hang in there......as I'm sure they are going to move your date to the new sea day. They probably just haven't changed it over yet. I wouldn't cancel anything just yet. Brunch is my favorite! We booked the last sea day, Saturday so we are ok for now.

typically brunches are only offered on Sea days but my TA said that they will not be moving them. They were going to keep them on that day and just offer more on our new at sea day. She said, DCL just wants to make more $$:confused3

I am going to leave it alone right now. Still have quite a few more days to wait.

Son3disfan....didn't you say that you are in CAT 10's on Deck 1? That is where we were on our last cruise and LOVED it!! Would love to be there again. It is a GREAT location!!! I can't wait to find out my room #!!

Just booked the 9:15 tour.

I was just about to book the 9:15 and checked the Disney cruise site again and the PV times have changed. It is now saying 8:45-7:00pm. Do you think you will make it to the pick-up location by 9:00am? I have to go back and rethink this some more and may be doing the 11:15am again now.

Ok I just checked mine and it still says 7:30 to 6pm. It better stay that way. I have never been on Disney but it is not off to a good start!

That is weird. When I go on under My Reservations and look at View Cruise Details, it has us down as Alternate Itinerary B and has the time I mentioned. I am getting so confused about what to do with the continuous changes. :confused3

Mine also says Alternate B in one spot, on the left side I see my booked items and it shows Cabo on day three.....then in another spot is shows that we have Cabo Back to back!!! Maybe they will get it all worked out soon.
