March 11, 2007 4 Night Wonder

Ok, I need help with what kind of clothes to pack for my DD12yo. She is not much into dresses or skirts and was wondering what other 12-13 year old girls wear to dinner. Thanks for your help.

I don't know how much help I would be with this question, since I have boys--but I can tell you what I have *seen* them wearing.:) If they weren't wearing dresses, most wore casual, dressy-type pants/capris and a top to match.

Thank you so much for the help. We are surprising our daughters with this cruise so I am going to have to do some secret shopping for her before we go!

This is a little side note: Once when driving through PA we got off to get gas but the station was a good 10-15 minutes off the main highway. We were in the middle of nowhere. So we finally find a Citgo and stop. My DH had to use the facillities and pulled up to the door rater then the pump so he could run in. (He had to go pretty bad) so he runs in and goes strait to the bathroom as he was comming out of the washroom I was walking into the gas station. The man working started yelling at him. So I go over wondering why the gentelman is yelling and as it turns out in this area people ask to use the washroom. It was too funny. The guy was saying you don't walk into someones house and use their washroom without asking. My DH keep saying but this is a gas station with PUBLIC WASHROOMS.

That's funny, I have never heard that before, I will keep that in mind if I'm ever in that area

Plus it gives us time together - my son (13) is growingup so fast and he never wants to "hang" with his parents. This way he is stuck with us and we usually have a great time playing driving games, joking etc.

We don't mind the drive either and we like that our girls are "trapped" with us in the car!

Have a safe trip and see you in 18 days!

My girls will probably bring some black guchos or a skort and use that every night with different tops (to pack light). Then when they are done eating they go back to the room and change back into comfortable clothes for the rest of the night.

Hey NNellie - do you know any Faust's in Wyoming Township? I have relatives up in that area!

I know a Carla Faust, I work with her too... Is she someone you are related to from up this way???

Hey Ladyrob, My name is Janelle and my DS is Jeremy... we are in room 2592.

No documents here yet either...

In a posting awhile back I remember someone saying something about having the late dinner seating and not sure if it would work out?

I had that last year and tried to change and couldn't. All I can say is that I was sooo glad! It was really nice not to have to rush to get to dinner after a day of excursions or being out and about. I was worried because we normally eat around 5 pm! But we loved the late seating!

Anyway... 18 days until we sail! Yay!!

We are:

Jim
Debra
Chantelle (13)
Michelle (13)
(but I am putting them in the Lab--they want one more time in the lab and they really didn't want to be in the teen club with the older kids)

We are in room 5520 (one of the Secret Porthole Rooms).

This will be our 8th cruise and we have been on both the Magic and Wonder and we have had both late and early dining.

On the Wonder, we prefer early dining because we don't really do excursions on the 3/4 night cruises.

On the Magic, late dining works better so that you don't have to rush to get back from sightseeing for dinner.

But to be honest, somewhere in between is best for us (of course they don't offer that:) ). On the Magic they have an alternative dinner on the 9th deck that you can go to if you want a different dinner time, but they don't offer that on the Wonder.

One reason I wanted early dining this time is so we can enjoy the pirate buffet on deck 9. Last year we had late dining and we just finished dinner at the time the deck party started so none of us wanted anything from the buffet. I am hoping this time we will get to give it a try.

Thanks for the tip! I love that idea.

I'm concerned about the clothes too. I need to go through closets to see what still fits. We did similar to what was stated above re: same pants. My dd will probably be fine, me and my ds have "put on a few" and will probably have to do some shopping!:rolleyes1 I better get busy!! Don't forget to bring a few long sleeves. It was freezing in the movie theater last May.

We sailed on the Wonder the last week of March last year and I was surprised how chilly it was at that time (and this is a couple weeks earlier for us this year). I do suggest bringing a jacket/sweater. I used both. A jacket for deck 9, and sweater for dinner and the theater. We ended buying sweatshirts in the ship's store because we didn't plan for the weather to be so chilly.

Of course, maybe it was an off year and this year will be warmer--I really don't know, but we are bringing more long sleeves things this year. Last year my d's didn't even get in the water at CC because of the temperature (but other people did--remember that was our 7th cruise, so they have already swam there. They asked to go back on the ship and swim in the pools which are heated, so that is what we did the afternoon at CC).

Still remember to bring sunblock though. Even though it is chilly, you can still get sunburned.

There are washer and dryers onboard if you want to do some laundry (we have used them on the 7 night, but not on the 3/4 night cruises).

Debra

Thanks. I was Wondering if the weather would be much cooler because of the time of year. In May it was very comfortable, shorts, etc. And the water temp at CC was just a little cool. I know FLA is having much cooler weather lately than is normal. This week in Memphis we are having springtime temps, highs in the mid 60's. According to weatherbug it is 65 right now. Lots of sunshine too! Of course the saying here is "If you don't like the weather, it will be different tomorrow!"

Allie (will be almost 13) will be packing 2 pairs of capri pants and 4 tops to mix and match. The boys will bring 2 pairs of dockers like pants each and 4 collared (polo type) shirts to mix and match. Mine too go to dinner and then change immediately after. Last cruise we actually started bringing shorts in a little canvas bag with us for our then 6 year old as he wanted to go to the Kids Programming after eating his dinner wayyyy before we were ready to be "done". So between courses one of us would take him into the restroom to change and then straight to the Kids Club. It was perfect!

We have had some clouds/ cool weather in March on cruises too....this is our third March cruise....but we always get in the water even though it is very chilly at first. The snorkeling is so fun at Castaway Cay for the kids.

Anyone know if the new Tarabithia movie will be showing? I saw it today with Justin for a school field trip but the others haven's seen it yet.

Magnet tape is a great idea instead of magnet paper!! Thanks for that idea! I am planning on working on that tonight now.

Was the movie good? We are planning to see it on the ship. In the past, any Disney movie that is out would be playing onboard, so I would think it will be showing.

Michelle has been looking for Allie on VMK, but hasn't seen her there lately. She is looking forward to meeting her on the ship. Maybe they can meet at our DIS meet on Sunday afternoon.

My girls like to "close out" the Lab each night. They say that by 10:00 most of the younger kids leave and the older kids have it almost to themselves. That is their favorite time to hang out there.

Debra

Hey Wendyl,
Sounds like your DS and mine will be hanging out then! Appears they have a lot in common...Looking forward to it.

Hi to everyone else too! Looking forward to meeting all of you and my 10 yo DS is looking forward to meeting the other kids too, see you all in the Promanade Louge, it will be so fun to have people we "know", very different from last year, I'm glad I decided to join in this thread!!

We just went onto Disney's website and looked up our reservation and saw that we have our room assignment, we will be on 2nd Deck...Is anyone else on 2nd Deck???
We got a 3 category upgrade, Yay!!! This happened last year too so was thinking there would be no way it would happen again. They must feel sorry for those of us who book a Category 12!!

Can't wait!!!

HI!! I'm sorry I missed your post until now--I guess I wasn't paying attention. More boys!! Yeah!! My DS will be happy.

Does that upgrade mean you paid for a category 12, but got upgraded to a category 3 at the same price?? If so....that's AWESOME!! We're on Deck 5 right by the kids clubs!

Should I be concerned it we don't have our cruise DOCS yet????

I think she means she got upgraded by 3 levels (cat) to a Cat. 9 room. There are no Cat. 3 rooms on Deck 2 (those are suites).

If you book a Cat. 12, and you have at least 4 people in your party you will get upgraded to at least a Cat. 11 and sometimes higher (the Cat. 12 rooms can only hold 3 people). It isn't a bad deal if you are willing to have a room without a window. By getting a Cat. 9 room, she will have a window, so this worked out great!

I would probably call about cruise Docs if you don't have them yet. It is only 2 weeks away. We got ours last week. Seems like they would have all been sent out by now, but it sounds like others are missing theirs too. I would still call though just to see what is going on.

Debra

Just wanted to make sure we are all planning the same thing. If I missed something and things changed, please let me know. But I'm thinking this is our March 11th DIS Cruise Meet:

Promenade Lounge on Deck 3 at 3:00

It is easy to find, and open right next to the hallway, so you will see it as you walk by.

I'm been to two Dis Meets there and we have had it to ourselves both times, so I don't expect it to be crowded.
