March 11-14...what's going on?

I've been flying back and forth to FL for about 9 months (from MN) and never have paid more than $350. Now, looking ahead to mid-March, lowest fares for a weekend trip are $500, and they go up from there. This includes MCO, TPA Sarasota, Ft Myers.....you just can't get there from here for a decent fare (at least not on days other than Tu and Wed). Does anyone know why?

Unfortunately, your dates coincide with the spring break phenomenon. I believe alot of Canadian March breaks start that weekend as well. Airlines always boost airfares as they know families will pay the prices to vacation in sunny florida! You might pick up something last minute, but flights tend to fill up quickly as people will drive as much as 11 hours to an american airport to fly out! It is a price thing.

Spring break for U of MN and the other MN State Universities is week of 3/14/11. Probably there are many students whose finals are done early enough so that they can leave on 3/11. The airlines know more people want to fly for those times.

Also, airfares in general have been increasing lately.
