March 10, 2012 - Eastern on the Magic

We're on the fish extender & roll call list for March 10th Magic Cruise. This is our 2nd cruise, but 1st time to do Roll Call & FE. Can anyone give us advice/suggestions on what to bring for the other families; HOW MANY we need to bring; where to get a fish extender to hang; etc.??? Thanks! Also, I have to post 9 more times to PM anyone, so I may have some very short posts coming up just to fulfill my requirement!

Okay, I'll use these posts to ask more questions. How do we find a list of onboard ship activities ahead of time. Last time I took a cruise, there were some interesting adults "classes" like how to set a fabulous table for a party, etc. Does Disney post such things somewhere?

My daughter will be celebrating her 8th birthday on the cruise. Any suggestions for what to arrange ahead of time for her?

(I didn't realize you were from Fort Collins -how cool to have someone else from CO!! (We're from Conifer) Also someone who has a DD the same age as mine!! My DD is an only child and can be shy so I'm hoping that she opens up a little with the other kids and ends up having fun... )

Hey Long Gone and Mamma C, we don't live in Colorado (we're in Maryland) but we are in Colorado a lot because my family lives there! I have two sisters who live in Wellington (just outside of Ft Collins) and one of them used to live in Conifer. Love that area so much...looking forward to meeting you!

Hi Everyone,

I have made some changes to the FE list (changed a stateroom, added some names) and have sent it out via email. We're all familiar with the drill now ... if it doesn't arrive, lemme know! :)

I will be bringing some extra copies of the spreadsheet onboard. Also, our room is on Deck 2 right near the Edge, starboard -- we will have a fully decorated door, so you can't miss it. If you miss me at the meet, and still need a copy, just leave a note.

Welcome Imacanuck -- greetings from the GTA! I have added you to the Roll Call on page 2.

I still have a few projects to complete. I am making journals for DD and her friend, using pages developed by someone on the creative section of the boards. We're also going to have a magnet making party next weekend for the two of them.

Hi, we are on the FE list but we haven't given you our stateroom info yet. I want to PM you but I don't have enough posts yet! I will look for your reply and will keep trying to post so I can PM you. Please let me know if there is anything else we need to do!

Trying to get my 10 posts in for Fe...and have so many questions, so may be taking some liberty on posting.

Has anyone done the wine package? We are considering one as we like a glass with dinner and figure it might be the easiest thing to do. Any thoughts?

I was thinking of doing that, too, and would like to hear others' thoughts. I understand you have to buy a bottle each night, and that would be too much for me since I'm the only adult traveling with my kids. I know you can have bottles transferred from one restaurant to another, or to your stateroom, if you don't finish it at dinner. And there is a regular and premium package.

Bummed. No packet yet and we found out our final air travel times via travel agent and we will miss the Meet @3pm...as we will be most likely checking in / just arriving at the port....

I did see that Pirate Night is listed as Tuesday night when I checked us in online though....

Can you tell me anything else you know about Pirate Night, or where I can find out? My daughter just told me she wants to be a Pirate for Halloween this year, so I bet she would love this! We have some pirate clothes we should pack. I'm glad you mentioned it, or I wouldn't have known about it!

Hi and :welcome: to the cruise! I don't think you need to worry too much about not booking ahead of time. From what I understand, there are spots left open for people to book onboard. Now that you know what you want, you should book as soon as possible once on board. There will also be cancellations as we get closer - I know I'm cancelling our exotic rasule for sure since it has such poor reviews :(

We are signed up for the 12m Regatta in St Maarten and a Beach Bash afterwards. In St Thomas we are doing the Turtle Cove Snorkel and Honeymoon Beach. I'm not sure if they reserve some excursion spots for booking onboard, but would suggest you try asap, and ask to be put on a waiting list. There are soooo many to choose from, you will not be disappointed.

Come find us at the meet - 3pm Promenade Lounge!

Hi, that's a relief that spots are left open, thank you!

The website is too overwhelming! I didn't notice a feature to be added to a waiting list....

Yes, we'll meet up with all at 3pm! sounds fun and we are in for the alcohol tastings (where do you all find all this information!? I am not impressed with my travel agent because I feel so out of the loop!)

Where are you from in Ontario? we're in Oakville

You have an option of 3 or 4 bottles and reg or premium package. We are probably doing the 3 bottle regular package. THere are several wines we like on it and two of us drinking will be plenty. I have ordered wine at cruises before and it's nice because they just save your open wine for the next night until you finish it. There are two of us drinking so we will go through the bottles in no time. I also read that you can take it out of the dining room to your stateroom or even home if you don't finish.

Hey if you need someone to toast with...we are always up for a glass!

Who is signing up for alcohol tastings??? Which ones are you interested in if you are. I want to do the wine for sure, cognac perhaps, not a fan of tequilla but I do love margaritas, martini would be cool, I love beer but not sure if I will do that one....oh ya just 49 posts left to go!

Are these comp or is there a charge? When do you sign up for it? My DH and I would probably be in for wine and tequila, maybe others. Not really a cognac fan but maybe I haven't "tasted" the right one yet...:rotfl:

Welcome!
Several of my co-workers live in Wellington. We love the area too. We moved up from Arizona a few years ago.

I'll help get us to 500!

We'd like to do some tasting too depends on when they are and if the kids are in the clubs at that time.

We will probably be color coordinated for embarquement but not identical shirts.

I've got almost all my door magnets done now. They are on my refrigerator. Nice reminder of what's to come!

Unfortunatly, on a seven day cruise, you must purchase the 7 day wine package.
The three day is not an option for us, only people cruising for three days. You can order three bottles of wine once on the ship though. We did the seven day wine package and yes, it was A LOT of wine for us but was a very nice option to have it preordered. They ask you at dinner what you would like, white or red, and offer suggestions based on your food selection. This includes dining in Palo as well. If you don't finish the bottle, they will hold on to it for you, or you can take it back to the room.
What we do now, if we feel like wine, is open a bottle in our stateroom, ( that we brought on board) and carry it into the dining room in our wine glasses ( leaving the bottle in the room )That way we are not paying for a corking fee in the restaurant. They allow you to do this and will provide wine glasses in your stateroom. People often sit at the lounges before dinner and bring their drinks in the dining room, so it is really no different.

The tastings are a lot if fun! $15 a person, about 1 hour in length.
We have tried almost all of them over our cruises.
Wine was my favorite, a lot of good information .
Tequila was fun ( I'm not really a drinker but love margaritas as well) and very informative . I think we tried 4 or 5 different types.
Yuck for the whiskey and brandy ( just me).
Martini was ok, again, some of it was pretty strong for my palate.

and there was another one my DH tried that I did not want to go to....can't remember what was being served...too strong for me.

It was something different to try in the different lounges, and we met some great people along the way.

Hi everyone,

New FE list has been sent to your inboxes. Let me know if you did not receive it!

Welcome Debbie RIM -- greetings from Etobicoke! I know it does seem overwhelming, but as others have mentioned, just make a point to find out where the Palo reservations etc. can be booked as soon as you get onboard. They always hold a number of spots back for people who did not book at the stroke of midnight 90 days earlier!

Ask all the questions you want to here -- lots of friendly folks happy to share.

Now as to the alcohol tastings, we have done beer, martini, regular wine, and expensive wine. Most were $10 or so a person, and I can't remember what the higher-end wine one was. All were fun, and we did meet some great people. This trip I think I'll send DH and our friend to the beer tasting, and then I think we'll do the higher-end wine one again. You get essentially the same presentation, but the wines are more interesting. Plus you get terrific chocolate truffles too!

We are!! We did the tequila and wine the last time and I'm pretty sure I enjoyed the tequila one since I can only remember the beginning and not much else about it!!lol They were fun!

you will receive a personal navigator for your cruise that tells you each day the full schedule of events. Yes there is a charge I think it is 15-20 dollars per session
