I know it's a far time from when I planning on running the WDW marathon (2010) but I'm just curious as to what and when did you eat during your trip down there?

Thanks for all the info!

DH likes protein after a marathon. This year he did the Goofy Challenge. (Although he walked a lot of the marathon, and slowwwly. ;) )
He ran the half Saturday. Months ahead he had me make an ADR at the Turf Club so he could order one of their steaks.
Sunday he was dead once he got home and we got local take out chinese. :lmao:
Are you looking for a pre-race carb meal?

In sight!

Seriously, Sunday we had lunch at Whispering Canyon, all you can eat meal and bottomless milk shakes!
You can even "change horses" with the milk shakes and try all the flavors.
That day the flavor of the day was Cotton Candy, DD and I passed on that, but the chocolate is made with a fudge strips on the inside of the glass, OMG!
DD did the half and I ran the full, needless to say we ordered seconds!!

We also went to the ABC package store the friday before and got fixins for Long Islands, managed to put 12 away sunday and monday so we saved a pile over the pool bar!!!!!

DH & I ran the WDW 1/2 marathon a few weeks ago. :thumbsup2

Two days before we did the Yachtsman Steakhouse for dinner, the night before we ate at the Restaurant Marrakesh to carb load on couscous and then we treated ourselves Saturday night to the California Grill to celebrate our achievement!! :goodvibes

Here's my January Marathon Reviews

Quick list:
Earl of Sandwich
Pepper Market (Night before 1/2 marathon and right after)
Boma (dinner after the race)
Le Cellier
Kona
San Angel Inn
Cantina de San Angel
Lotus Blossom Inn
Pizzafari
Liberty Tree Tavern
Columbia Harbor House

I'm not really looking for anything in particular, just curious as to what runners eat before and after the race...it definately sounds like buffets/all you care to eats are the places to go after the full.

I'm interested in knowing this as well :goodvibes

I think I was reading on the WISH board that many of the restaurants offer a pasta dinner of some sort the night before a race. I think there is also an official marathon pasta dinner but I remembered reading it was $30? Seemed expensive to me.

Sounds like what I'm planning to do this May before the Minnie 15K! Except we're just going to the Tangerine Cafe instead - how is Restaurant Marrakesh? I'm pretty familiar with middle-eastern food but I'm more curious about the service and quality of food :)

DH did the full marathon Sunday, I did the Half (my first ever!! and I was one of the last to finish!! )

We cant do it in '09 due to our son's wedding... so 2010 look out!! (do head over the the competition/event board and post - being part of the WISH team, wearing the WISH Dis colors made all the difference in me finishing!!)

Thur arrived - Yachtsman Steak!
Frid - DIS Meet Pop Century Food Court! Great atmosphere of WISHers!
Sat - Cape May Buffet (it was crowded people didnt realize the marathon runners all made adrs 180 days out - and I heard wait times of an hour or more, Thurs night we peeked in maybe ten diners!! It was good - Prime Rib, Pasta, Salads, Bread!! ALL good!!)
Sun - Le Cellier
Mon - DIS Meet at Boardwalk Bakery for Breakfast!!

We did the CS meal at Sunshine Seasons - it is now a must do for us!! Very good variety - great food!!

Hope you join us training for the marathons !

If you are looking for a pasta meal - All the onsite resorts have pasta specials during the marathon weekend. It is usually about $10 - $13 and it includes garlic bread and/or salad. :thumbsup2 It is much lesser than the official pasta dinner ($30).

Service was excellent - especially considering the crowd waiting to be seated. Food was pretty good - not great. We'll try the Tangerine Cafe next time.

Let's see if I can remember
Friday: Breakfast in Room, Lunch at Yak n Yeit CS, Dinner at Ohana
Saturday: Breakfast at Cape May, Dinner at Spoodles
Sunday: Breakfast on shuttle bus to marathon;) , Dinner at Rose and Crown

Spoodles was very nice for the night before the marathon--They even had a special marathon offering.

I run 40+ miles a week in off seasonand closer to 50+ while training for my half marathons. I think I can give you a pretty good idea of what to eat before a long race, at least from a competitive runner's standpoint. It takes at least 24 hours for most of the food you eat to be processed and useable --usually longer. So, you don't want to eat something too large the night before a race. Instead focus on eating small meals throughout the day and try not to eat anything too late in the evening, especially a big, heavy meal. And what you eat that day should really be stuff that you know your body handles fine. So with a marathon, in a place like Disney, you want to be careful not to try some new (to you) dish at a restaurant. One of the biggest runners' myths is that you can eat something the night before that will actually help you race (like carb-loading). You should be fine with lots of types of food so long as you stick to small meals throughout the day and not one big heavy dinner.

Also, you typically want to avoid alcohol the night before you race since that obviously acts as a depressant to your central nervous system and will carry over into the following morning (for most people). Instead you want to drink tons of water and/or electrolyte drinks the dat and morning beforehand.

Such boring information I know!!!! But my first race I carb-loaded the night before and ate a huge b-fast the morning of the race and was sorry in the middle of the race! Since then I have researched, worked with trainers and other marathoners on how to best balance my diet for a race. It is typically it more important to worry about your diet leading up to the race than the night before! But restaurants make a lot of money playing off the carbo-load myth right before marathons!

So Agree with the last post. Everyone is different-Especially before longer races and even training runs. My dad would drive me crazy and eat a donut before a 10 mile run on Sunday. I can't eat anything but a 1/2 of a power bar and drink some water 1-2 hours before I run or I am sick!!:confused3 Experiment with different meals and see how you feel. But days before a big run lots of water!!!

I figured that much. I'm a nutrition major but not a runner yet...thus the curiousity. Carb-loading isn't truly necessary and it does like you body a while to metabolize complex food items. Definately simple carbs, and some fat too (your body uses fat as a fuel during exercise as well).

I'm getting totally obsessed. It's 2 years away!

There is a nice simple penne pasta at the Brewpub (what is it? Big River?) on the Boardwalk that I had the night before the 1/2 marathon. Have eaten at Portobello Yacht Club before the marathon one time in the past.

I definitely like to eat a simple meal the night before, and eat early!

and I often will have just one glass of wine, to take the edge off. :goodvibes
